| 2 Il fit ce qui était agréable au Seigneur, et marcha dans toutes les voies de David son père, sans se détourner ni à droite ni à gauche. | 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left. |
| 3 La dix-huitième année de son régne, il envoya Saphan, fils d'Assia, fils de Messulam, secrétaire du temple du Seigneur en lui disant: | 3 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying, |
| 4 Allez trouver le grand prêtre Helcias, afin qu'il fasse amasser l'argent qui a été porté au temple du Seigneur, que les portiers du temple ont reçu du peuple; | 4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people: |
| 5 et que les maîtres de la maison du Seigneur le donnent aux entrepreneurs, afin qu'ils le distribuent à ceux qui travaillent aux réparations du temple du Seigneur, | 5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house, |
| 6 aux charpentiers, aux maçons, et à ceux qui rétablissent les brèches des murs, et aussi afin qu'on achète du bois et qu'on tire des pierres des carrières, pour réparer le temple du Seigneur. | 6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. |
| 7 Néanmoins, qu'on ne leur fasse pas rendre compte de l'argent qu'ils reçoivent; mais qu'ils en soient les maîtres, et qu'on se repose sur leur bonne foi. | 7 Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully. |
| 8 Alors le grand prêtre Helcias dit à Saphan, le secrétaire : J'ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans le temple du Seigneur. Et il donna ce livre à Saphan, qui le lut. | 8 And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. |
| 9 Saphan, le secrétaire, revint ensuite trouver le roi pour lui rendre compte de ce qu'il lui avait commandé, et il lui dit : Vos serviteurs ont amassé l'argent qui s'est trouvé dans la maison du Seigneur, et ils l'ont donné aux intendants des bâtiments du temple du Seigneur, pour le distribuer aux ouvriers. | 9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD. |
| 10 Saphan, le secrétaire, dit encore au roi : Le pontife Helcias m'a donné aussi un livre. Et il le lut devant le roi. | 10 And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. |
| 11 Le roi, ayant entendu ces paroles du livre de la loi du Seigneur, déchira ses vêtements, | 11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. |
| 12 et dit au grand prêtre Helcias, à Ahicam, fils de Saphan, à Achobor, fils de Micha, à Saphan le secrétaire, et à Asaïas, officier du roi: | 12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying, |
| 13 Allez, consultez le Seigneur sur moi et sur le peuple, et sur tout Juda, touchant les paroles de ce livre qui a été trouvé; car la colère du Seigneur s'est embrasée contre nous, parce que nos pères n'ont point écouté les paroles de ce livre, et n'ont pas fait ce qui nous avait été prescrit. | 13 Go ye, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us. |
| 14 Alors le grand prêtre Helcias, Ahicam, Achobor, Saphan et Asaïas allèrent trouver Holda la prophétesse, femme de Sellum, fils de Thécuas, fils d'Araas, gardien des vêtements, qui demeurait à Jérusalem dans le second quartier de la ville. Et ils lui parlèrent. | 14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her. |
| 15 Holda leur répondit : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d'Israël : Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyé vers moi: | 15 And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me, |
| 16 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Je vais faire tomber sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants tous les maux que le roi de Juda a lus dans la loi, | 16 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read: |
| 17 parce qu'ils M'ont abandonné, qu'ils ont sacrifié à des dieux étrangers, et qu'ils M'ont irrité par toutes les oeuvres de leurs mains; et Mon indignation s'allumera contre ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra pas. | 17 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched. |
| 18 Quand au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyé consulter le Seigneur, vous lui direz : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël : Parce que vous avez écouté les paroles de ce livre, | 18 But to the king of Judah which sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard; |
| 19 que votre coeur en a été épouvanté, que vous vous êtes humilié devant le Seigneur, après avoir appris les maux dont Il menace cette ville et ses habitants, qui seront un jour l'étonnement et l'exécration de tous; et parce que vous avez déchiré vos vêtements et pleuré devant Moi, J'ai écouté votre prière, dit le Seigneur. | 19 Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD. |
| 20 C'est pourquoi Je vous ferai reposer avec vos pères, et vous serez enseveli en paix, afin que vos yeux ne voient point les maux que Je dois faire tomber sur cette ville. | 20 Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again. |
