| 1 Et voici qu'un homme de Dieu vint de Juda à Béthel, lorsque Jéroboam se tenait à l'autel et qu'il encensait; | 1 And behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the LORD to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense. |
| 2 Et il cria contre l'autel, en parlant ainsi de la part du Seigneur : Autel, autel, voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Il naîtra dans la maison de David un fils qui s'appellera Josias, et il immolera sur toi les prêtres des hauts lieux qui t'encensent maintenant, et il brûlera sur toi des ossements humains. | 2 And the man cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "O altar, altar, thus says the LORD: 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and he shall sacrifice upon you the priests of the high places who burn incense upon you, and men's bones shall be burned upon you.'" |
| 3 Et le même jour il leur donna un signe, en disant : Voici le signe que le Seigneur a parlé : L'autel se fendra, et la cendre qui est dessus sera répandue. | 3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign that the LORD has spoken: 'Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.'" |
| 4 Lorsque le roi eut entendu la parole que l'homme de Dieu avait criée contre l'autel de Béthel, il étendit sa main de dessus l'autel, en disant : Qu'on l'arrête. Et en même temps la main qu'il avait étendue contre le prophète se sécha, et il ne put la retirer à lui. | 4 And when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar at Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Lay hold of him." And his hand, which he stretched out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself. |
| 5 L'autel aussi se fendit, et la cendre qui était dessus se répandit, selon le signe que l'homme de Dieu avait prédit par le commandement du Seigneur. | 5 The altar also was torn down, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD. |
| 6 Alors le roi dit à l'homme de Dieu : Implorez le Seigneur votre Dieu, et priez-Le pour moi, afin qu'Il me rende l'usage de ma main. Et l'homme de Dieu pria le Seigneur, et le roi retira sa main à lui, et elle devint telle qu'auparavant. | 6 And the king said to the man of God, "Entreat now the favor of the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me." And the man of God entreated the LORD; and the king's hand was restored to him, and became as it was before. |
| 7 Le roi dit encore à l'homme de Dieu : Venez dîner avec moi dans ma maison, et je vous ferai des présents. | 7 And the king said to the man of God, "Come home with me, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward." |
| 8 L'homme de Dieu dit au roi : Quand vous me donneriez la moitié de votre maison, je n'irai point avec vous, et je ne mangerai pas de pain, et ne boirai pas d'eau en ce lieu. | 8 And the man of God said to the king, "If you give me half your house, I will not go in with you. And I will not eat bread or drink water in this place; |
| 9 Car cet ordre m'a été donné par la parole du Seigneur : Vous ne mangerez pas de pain, et ne boirez pas d'eau, et vous ne vous en retournerez point par le chemin par lequel vous êtes venu. | 9 for so was it commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'You shall neither eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way that you came.'" |
| 10 Il s'en alla donc par un autre chemin, et il ne s'en retourna point par le chemin par lequel il était venu à Béthel. | 10 So he went another way, and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel. |
| 11 Or il y avait un vieux prophète qui demeurait à Béthel; ses fils vinrent lui raconter toutes les choses que l'homme de Dieu avait faites ce jour-là à Béthel, et ils rapportèrent à leur père les paroles qu'il avait dites au roi. | 11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel. And his sons came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words also which he had spoken to the king, they told to their father. |
| 12 Leur père leur dit : Par où s'en est-il allé? Ses fils lui montrèrent le chemin par où l'homme de Dieu, qui était venu de Juda, s'en était allé; | 12 And their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" And his sons showed him the way which the man of God who came from Judah had gone. |
| 13 et il dit à ses fils : Sellez-moi mon âne. Et après qu'ils l'eurent sellé, il monta dessus, | 13 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the ass for me." So they saddled the ass for him and he mounted it. |
| 14 et s'en alla après l'homme de Dieu, qu'il trouva assis sous un térébinthe; et il lui dit : Etes-vous l'homme de Dieu qui êtes venu de Juda? Il lui répondit : Je le suis. | 14 And he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak; and he said to him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" And he said, "I am." |
| 15 Venez, lui dit-il, avec moi dans ma maison, pour manger un peu de pain. | 15 Then he said to him, "Come home with me and eat bread." |
| 16 L'homme de Dieu lui répondit : Je ne puis retourner, ni aller avec vous, et je ne mangerai pas de pain, et ne boirai pas d'eau en ce lieu-ci; | 16 And he said, "I may not return with you, or go in with you; neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place; |
| 17 car le Seigneur m'a dit expressément, et m'a donné cet ordre : Vous ne mangerez pas de pain et ne boirez pas d'eau en ce lieu-ci, et vous ne retournerez point par le chemin par lequel vous serez allé. | 17 for it was said to me by the word of the LORD, 'You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by the way that you came.'" |
| 18 Cet homme lui répondit : Je suis moi-même prophète comme vous, et un ange est venu me dire de la part du Seigneur : Ramenez-le avec vous dans votre maison, afin qu'il mange du pain et qu'il boive de l'eau. Et il le trompa, | 18 And he said to him, "I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.'" But he lied to him. |
| 19 et l'emmena avec lui. L'homme de Dieu mangea du pain dans sa maison, et but de l'eau. | 19 So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water. |
| 20 Et comme ils étaient assis à table, le Seigneur fit entendre Sa parole au prophète qui l'avait ramené; | 20 And as they sat at the table, the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back; |
| 21 et il cria à l'homme de Dieu, qui était venu de Juda, et dit : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Parce que vous n'avez pas obéi à la parole du Seigneur, et que vous n'avez point gardé le commandement que le Seigneur votre Dieu vous avait fait, | 21 and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have disobeyed the word of the LORD, and have not kept the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you, |
| 22 et que vous êtes revenu en ce lieu, où vous avez mangé du pain et bu de l'eau, quoique Dieu vous eût commandé de n'y pas manger de pain, et de n'y pas boire d'eau, votre cadavre ne sera point porté au sépulcre de vos pères. | 22 but have come back, and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, "Eat no bread, and drink no water"; your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.'" |
| 23 Après que le prophète qu'il avait amené eut bu et mangé, le vieux prophète sella son âne pour lui. | 23 And after he had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the ass for the prophet whom he had brought back. |
| 24 Et comme l'homme de Dieu était en chemin pour s'en retourner, un lion le rencontra et le tua, et son cadavre demeura étendu sur le chemin; l'âne resta auprès de lui, et le lion se tint auprès du cadavre. | 24 And as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his body was thrown in the road, and the ass stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body. |
| 25 Et voici que des gens qui passaient par là virent son corps étendu dans le chemin, et le lion qui se tenait près du corps, et ils vinrent publier ce qu'ils avaient vu, dans la ville où demeurait ce vieux prophète. | 25 And behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown in the road, and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt. |
| 26 Lorsque celui-ci, qui avait fait revenir l'homme de Dieu de son chemin, l'eut appris, il dit : C'est l'homme de Dieu, qui a été désobéissant à la parole du Seigneur, et le Seigneur l'a livré à un lion qui l'a mis en pièces, et l'a tué selon la parole qu'Il lui avait dite. | 26 And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God, who disobeyed the word of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and slain him, according to the word which the LORD spoke to him." |
| 27 Et il dit à ses fils : Sellez-moi mon âne. Après qu'ils l'eurent sellé, | 27 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the ass for me." And they saddled it. |
| 28 il s'en alla, et il trouva le cadavre étendu dans le chemin, et l'âne et le lion qui se tenaient près du corps. Le lion ne mangea point du cadavre, et ne fit pas de mal à l'âne. | 28 And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the ass and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the ass. |
| 29 Le prophète prit donc le cadavre de l'homme de Dieu, le mit sur son âne, et le ramena dans la ville où il demeurait, pour le pleurer. | 29 And the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back to the city, to mourn and to bury him. |
| 30 Il mit le cadavre dans son sépulcre, et ils le pleurèrent en disant : Hélas, hélas, mon frère! | 30 And he laid the body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, "Alas, my brother!" |
| 31 Après qu'ils eurent pleuré, il dit à ses fils : Quand je serai mort, ensevelissez-moii dans le sépulcre où repose l'homme de Dieu; mettez mes os auprès de ses os. | 31 And after he had buried him, he said to his sons, "When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. |
| 32 Car ce qu'il a prédit de la part du Seigneur contre l'autel qui est à Béthel, et contre tous les temples des hauts lieux qui sont dans les villes de Samarie, arrivera très certainement. | 32 For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass." |
| 33 Après ces choses, Jéroboam ne revint point de sa voie toute corrompue, mais il prit au contraire des derniers du peuple pour les faire les prêtres des hauts lieux. Quiconque le voulait remplissait sa main, et devenait prêtre des hauts lieux. | 33 After this thing Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who would, he consecrated to be priests of the high places. |
| 34 Ce fut là le péché de la maison de Jéroboam, et c'est pour cela qu'elle a été détruite et exterminée de dessus la terre. | 34 And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth. |
