| 9 Allez-vous-en au troupeau, et apportez-moi deux des meilleurs chevreaux, afin que j'en prépare à votre père une sorte de mets que je sais qu'il aime; | 9 and go straight to the flock, and bring me two of the best young goats, so that from them I may make meat for your father, such as he willingly eats. |
| 10 Et qu'après que vous le lui aurez présenté et qu'il en aura mangé, il vous bénisse avant de mourir. | 10 Then, when you have brought these in and he has eaten, he may bless you before he dies.” |

| 13 Sa mère lui répondit: Mon fils, je me charge moi-même de cette malédiction: faites seulement ce que je vous conseille, et allez me chercher ce que je vous dis. | 13 And his mother said to him: “Let this curse be upon me, my son. Yet listen to my voice, and go directly to bring what I said.” |
| 14 Il y alla, il l'apporta, et il le donna à sa mère, qui en prépara à manger à son père comme elle savait qu'il l'aimait. | 14 He went out, and he brought, and he gave to his mother. She prepared the meats, just as she knew his father liked. |
| 15 Elle fit prendre ensuite à Jacob de très beaux habits d'Esaü, qu'elle gardait elle-même à la maison. | 15 And she clothed him with the very fine garments of Esau, which she had at home with her. |
| 16 Et elle lui mit autour des mains la peau des chevreaux, et lui en couvrit le cou partout où il était découvert. | 16 And she encircled his hands with little pelts from the young goats, and she covered his bare neck. |
| 17 Puis elle lui donna ce qu'elle avait préparé à manger, et les pains qu'elle avait cuits. | 17 And she gave him the small meal, and she handed him the bread that she had baked. |
| 18 Jacob porta le tout devant Isaac, et lui dit: Mon père. Je vous entends, dit Isaac. Qui êtes-vous, mon fils? | 18 When he had carried these in, he said, “My father?” And he answered, “I’m listening. Who are you, my son?” |
| 19 Jacob lui répondit: Je suis Esaü votre fils aîné. J'ai fait ce que vous m'avez commandé: levez-vous, mettez-vous sur votre séant, et mangez de ma chasse afin que vous me donniez votre bénédiction. | 19 And Jacob said: “I am Esau, your firstborn. I have done as you instructed me. Arise; sit and eat from my hunting, so that your soul may bless me.” |
| 20 Isaac dit encore à son fils: Mais comment avez vous pu, mon fils, en trouver si tôt? Il lui répondit: Dieu a voulu que ce que je désirais se présentât tout d'un coup à moi. | 20 And again Isaac said to his son, “How were you able to find it so quickly, my son?” He answered, “It was the will of God, so that what I sought met with me quickly.” |
| 21 Isaac dit encore: Approchez-vous d'ici, mon fils, afin que je vous touche, et que je reconnaisse si vous êtes mon fils ou non. | 21 And Isaac said, “Come here, so that I may touch you, my son, and may prove whether you are my son Esau, or not.” |
| 22 Jacob s'approcha de son père; et Isaac, l'ayant tâté, dit: Pour la voix, c'est la voix de Jacob; mais les mains sont les mains d'Esaü. | 22 He approached his father, and when he had felt him, Isaac said: “The voice indeed is the voice of Jacob. But the hands are the hands of Esau.” |
| 23 Et il ne le reconnut point, parce que ses mains, étant couvertes de poil, parurent toutes semblables à celle de son aîné. Isaac, le bénissant donc, | 23 And he did not recognize him, because his hairy hands made him seem similar to the elder one. Therefore, blessing him, |

| 26 Isaac lui dit ensuite: Approchez-vous de moi, mon fils, et venez me baiser. | 26 he said to him, “Come to me and give me a kiss, my son.” |
| 27 Il s'approcha donc de lui, et le baisa. Et Isaac, aussitôt qu'il eut senti la bonne odeur qui sortait de ses habits, lui dit en le bénissant: L'odeur qui sort de mon fils est semblable à celle d'un champ plein de fleurs que le Seigneur a comblé de ses bénédictions. | 27 He approached and kissed him. And immediately he perceived the fragrance of his garments. And so, blessing him, he said: “Behold, the smell of my son is like the smell of a plentiful field, which the Lord has blessed. |

| 33 Isaac fut frappé d'un profond étonnement; et, admirant au delà de tout ce qu'on peut croire ce qui était arrivé, il lui dit: Qui est donc celui qui m'a déjà apporté de ce qu'il avait pris à la chasse, et qui m'a fait manger de tout avant que vous vinssiez? et je lui ai donné ma bénédiction, et il sera béni. | 33 Isaac became frightened and very astonished. And wondering beyond what can be believed, he said: “Then who is he that a while ago brought me the prey from his hunting, from which I ate, before you arrived? And I blessed him, and he will be blessed.” |
| 34 Esaü, à ces paroles de son père, jeta un cri furieux; et, étant dans une extrême consternation, il lui dit: Donnez-moi aussi votre bénédiction, mon père. | 34 Esau, having heard his father’s words, roared out with a great outcry. And, being confounded, he said, “But bless me also, my father.” |
| 35 Isaac lui répondit: Votre frère m'est venu surprendre, et il a reçu la bénédiction qui vous était due. | 35 And he said, “Your twin came deceitfully, and he received your blessing.” |
| 36 C'est avec raison, dit Esaü, qu'il a été appelé Jacob; car voici la seconde fois qu'il m'a supplanté. Il m'a enlevé auparavant mon droit d'aînesse; et présentement il vient encore de me dérober la bénédiction qui m'était due. Mais, mon père, ajouta Esaü, ne m'avez-vous point réservé aussi une bénédiction? | 36 But he responded: “Justly is his name called Jacob. For he has supplanted me yet another time. My birthright he took away before, and now, this second time, he has stolen my blessing.” And again, he said to his father, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me also?” |
| 37 Isaac lui répondit: Je l'ai établi votre seigneur, et j'ai assujetti à sa domination tous ses frères. Je l'ai affermi dans la possession du blé et du vin; et après cela, mon fils, que me reste-t-il que je puisse faire pour vous? | 37 Isaac answered: “I have appointed him as your lord, and I have subjugated all his brothers as his servants. I have reinforced him with grain and wine, and after this, my son, what more shall I do for you?” |
| 38 Esaü lui repartit: N'avez-vous donc, mon père, qu'une seule bénédiction? Je vous conjure de me bénir aussi. Il jeta ensuite de grands cris mêlés de larmes. | 38 And Esau said to him: “Have you only one blessing, father? I beg you, bless me also.” And when he wept with a loud wail, |
| 39 Et Isaac, en étant touché, lui dit: votre bénédiction sera dans la graisse de la terre et dans la rosée du ciel qui vient d'en haut. | 39 Isaac was moved, and he said to him: “In the fatness of the earth, and in the dew of heaven from above, |
| 40 Vous vivrez de l'épée, vous servirez votre frère, et le temps viendra que vous secouerez son joug, et que vous vous en délivrerez. | 40 will your blessing be. You will live by the sword, and you will serve your brother. But the time will arrive when you will shake off and release his yoke from your neck.” |
| 41 Esaü haïssait donc constamment Jacob, à cause de cette bénédiction qu'il avait reçue de son père; et il disait en lui-même: Le temps de la mort de mon père viendra, et alors je tuerai mon frère Jacob. | 41 Therefore, Esau always hated Jacob, for the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And he said in his heart, “The days will arrive for the mourning of my father, and I will kill my brother Jacob.” |

| 44 Vous demeurerez quelques jours avec lui, jusqu'à ce que la fureur de votre frère s'apaise, | 44 And you will dwell with him for a few days, until the fury of your brother subsides, |
| 45 Que sa colère se passe, et qu'il oublie ce que vous avez fait contre lui. J'enverrai ensuite, pour vous faire revenir ici. | 46 Rébecca dit encore à Isaac: La vie m'est devenue ennuyeuse à cause des filles de Heth qu'Esaü a épousées. Si Jacob épouse une fille de ce pays-là, je ne veux plus vivre. | 46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob accepts a wife from the stock of this land, I would not be willing to live.” |
