| 2 Voici les noms des fils d’Aaron: Nadab, le premier-né; Abihou, Éléazar et Itamar. | 2 These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar; |
| 3 Ce sont les noms des fils d’Aaron, les prêtres qui reçurent l’onction et furent choisis pour exercer le sacerdoce. | 3 these are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to minister in the priest's office. |
| 4 Nadab et Abihou moururent devant Yahvé lorsqu’ils apportèrent à Yahvé un feu profane dans le désert du Sinaï; ils n’avaient pas de fils. Mais Éléazar et Itamar exercèrent le sacerdoce avec Aaron, leur père. | 4 But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered unholy fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of Aaron their father. |
| 5 Yahvé dit à Moïse: | 5 And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 6 “Fais approcher la tribu de Lévi. Elle sera au service d’Aaron, le prêtre; | 6 "Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. |
| 7 elle partagera la responsabilité d’Aaron et de toute la communauté pour tout ce qui concerne la Tente du Rendez-Vous; elle assurera le service de la Demeure. | 7 They shall perform duties for him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, as they minister at the tabernacle; |
| 8 Les Lévites seront chargés de tous les ustensiles de la Tente du Rendez-Vous, de tout ce qui a été confié à la charge des Israélites: Ils assureront le service de la Demeure. | 8 they shall have charge of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, and attend to the duties for the people of Israel as they minister at the tabernacle. |
| 9 Tu confieras les Lévites à Aaron et à ses fils, ils sont pris parmi les Israélites pour lui être entièrement dévoués. | 9 And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the people of Israel. |
| 10 Mais tu réserveras à Aaron et à ses fils les fonctions du sacerdoce: si un profane veut les exercer, il sera puni de mort.” | 10 And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall attend to their priesthood; but if any one else comes near, he shall be put to death." |
| 11 Yahvé dit encore à Moïse: | 11 And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 12 “Regarde! J’ai pris les Lévites du milieu des enfants d’Israël à la place de tout premier-né, de tout enfant qui sort le premier du sein de sa mère en Israël: les Lévites sont donc à moi. | 12 "Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the people of Israel instead of every first-born that opens the womb among the people of Israel. The Levites shall be mine, |
| 13 Car tout premier-né m’appartient depuis le jour où j’ai frappé les premiers-nés au pays d’Égypte; je me suis alors consacré tout premier-né en Israël, aussi bien parmi les hommes que parmi les animaux, et ils sont à moi: je suis Yahvé!” | 13 for all the first-born are mine; on the day that I slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for my own all the first-born in Israel, both of man and of beast; they shall be mine: I am the LORD." |
| 14 Yahvé dit à Moïse dans le désert du Sinaï: | 14 And the LORD said to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, |
| 15 “Recense les fils de Lévi selon leurs clans, selon leurs familles. Tu feras le recensement de tous les mâles de plus d’un mois.” | 15 "Number the sons of Levi, by fathers' houses and by families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number." |
| 16 Moïse fit donc ce recensement sur l’ordre de Yahvé, comme cela lui avait été commandé. | 16 So Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded. |
| 17 Voici les noms des fils de Lévi: Guerchon, Kahat et Mérari. | 17 And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari. |
| 18 Voici les fils de Guerchon, par familles: Libni et Chiméï. | 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shime-i. |
| 19 Les fils de Kahat, par familles: Amram, Yichar, Hébron et Ouziel. | 19 And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. |
| 20 Les fils de Mérari, par familles: Mali et Mouchi. Ce sont là les clans des fils de Lévi groupés selon leurs familles paternelles. | 20 And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites, by their fathers' houses. |
| 21 Le clan de Libni et le clan de Chiméï appartiennent à Guerchon: ce sont les clans des Guerchonites. | 21 Of Gershon were the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shime-ites; these were the families of the Gershonites. |
| 22 Les mâles recensés depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus étaient au total de 7 500. | 22 Their number according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward was seven thousand five hundred. |
| 23 Les clans Guerchonites campaient derrière la Demeure, à l’ouest. | 23 The families of the Gershonites were to encamp behind the tabernacle on the west, |
| 24 Le chef de la maison de Guerchon était Éliasaf, fils de Laël. | 24 with Eliasaph, the son of Lael as head of the fathers' house of the Gershonites. |

| 26 des rideaux de la cour, du rideau d’entrée de la cour qui entoure la Demeure et l’autel, enfin des cordes nécessaires pour ce travail. | 26 the hangings of the court, the screen for the door of the court which is around the tabernacle and the altar, and its cords; all the service pertaining to these. |
| 27 Les clans d’Amram, d’Yisar, d’Hébron et d’Ouziel appartiennent à Kahat: ce sont les clans des Kahatites. | 27 Of Kohath were the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these are the families of the Kohathites. |
| 28 Les mâles recensés depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus étaient au total 8 300, ils étaient chargés du sanctuaire. | 28 According to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand six hundred, attending to the duties of the sanctuary. |
| 29 Les clans Kahatites campaient au sud de la Demeure. | 29 The families of the sons of Kohath were to encamp on the south side of the tabernacle, |
| 30 Le chef de la maison des Kahatites était Élisafan, fils d’Ouziel. | 30 with Eli-zaphan the son of Uzziel as head of the fathers' house of the families of the Kohathites. |
| 31 Ils avaient la charge de l’Arche, de la table, du candélabre, des autels, des objets pour le service du sanctuaire, du voile, avec tout ce qui l’accompagne. | 31 And their charge was to be the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the vessels of the sanctuary with which the priests minister, and the screen; all the service pertaining to these. |
| 32 Éléazar, fils d’Aaron le prêtre, avait la haute autorité sur tous les Lévites. Il surveillait tous ceux qui avaient la charge du sanctuaire. | 32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest was to be chief over the leaders of the Levites, and to have oversight of those who had charge of the sanctuary. |
| 33 Le clan de Mali et le clan de Mouchi appartiennent à Mérari: ce sont les clans des Mérarites. | 33 Of Merari were the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites: these are the families of Merari. |
| 34 Les mâles recensés depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus étaient au total 6 200. | 34 Their number according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward was six thousand two hundred. |
| 35 Les clans des Mérarites avaient pour chef Souriel, fils d’Abihayil. Ils campaient au nord de la Demeure. | 35 And the head of the fathers' house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail; they were to encamp on the north side of the tabernacle. |
| 36 Les fils de Mérari avaient la charge des cadres de la Demeure, de ses traverses, des colonnes et de leurs supports, de tous les accessoires et de tout ce qui les accompagne, | 36 And the appointed charge of the sons of Merari was to be the frames of the tabernacle, the bars, the pillars, the bases, and all their accessories; all the service pertaining to these; |
| 37 ainsi que des colonnes qui entourent le parvis, de leurs supports, de leurs piquets et de leurs cordes. | 37 also the pillars of the court round about, with their bases and pegs and cords. |
| 38 Moïse, Aaron et ses fils campaient devant la Demeure, à l’est, devant la Tente du Rendez-Vous à l’orient. Ils montaient la garde devant le sanctuaire au nom des fils d’Israël. Si un profane s’était approché, il aurait été mis à mort. | 38 And those to encamp before the tabernacle on the east, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, were Moses and Aaron and his sons, having charge of the rites within the sanctuary, whatever had to be done for the people of Israel; and any one else who came near was to be put to death. |
| 39 Sur l’ordre de Yahvé, Moïse et Aaron recensèrent les Lévites selon leur famille. On dénombra 22 000 mâles de l’âge d’un mois et au-delà. | 39 All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, by families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand. |
| 40 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Recense tout premier-né mâle parmi les Israélites, depuis l’âge d’un mois et au-delà, et dénombre-les un par un. | 40 And the LORD said to Moses, "Number all the first-born males of the people of Israel, from a month old and upward, taking their number by names. |
| 41 Je suis Yahvé, tu prendras pour moi les Lévites à la place de tout premier-né parmi les Israélites, et le bétail des Lévites à la place de tout premier-né du bétail des Israélites.” | 41 And you shall take the Levites for me--I am the LORD--instead of all the first-born among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the people of Israel." |
| 42 Moïse recensa donc tous les premiers-nés des Israélites, comme Yahvé le lui avait ordonné. | 42 So Moses numbered all the first-born among the people of Israel, as the LORD commanded him. |
| 43 On compta, de l’âge d’un mois et au-dessus, 22 273 premiers-nés mâles. | 43 And all the first-born males, according to the number of names, from a month old and upward as numbered were twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three. |
| 44 Yahvé dit alors à Moïse: | 44 And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 45 “Prends les Lévites en échange de tout premier-né des Israélites, et le bétail des Lévites à la place du bétail des Israélites. Ainsi les Lévites seront à moi: je suis Yahvé! | 45 "Take the Levites instead of all the first-born among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD. |
| 46 “Tu rachèteras les 273 premiers-nés des Israélites qui excèdent le nombre des Lévites. | 46 And for the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three of the first-born of the people of Israel, over and above the number of the male Levites, |
| 47 Tu prendras cinq sicles par tête, cinq sicles du sanctuaire, c’est-à-dire 20 guéras par sicle. | 47 you shall take five shekels apiece; reckoning by the shekel of the sanctuary, the shekel of twenty gerahs, you shall take them, |
| 48 Puis tu donneras cet argent à Aaron et à ses fils pour le rachat de ceux qui sont en excédent.” | 48 and give the money by which the excess number of them is redeemed to Aaron and his sons." |
| 49 Moïse prit donc l’argent du rachat de ceux qui étaient en excédent, et qui n’avaient pas été rachetés par les Lévites. | 49 So Moses took the redemption money from those who were over and above those redeemed by the Levites; |
| 50 Il demanda cet argent aux premiers-nés des Israélites: 1 365 sicles, d’après le sicle du sanctuaire. | 50 from the first-born of the people of Israel he took the money, one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels, reckoned by the shekel of the sanctuary; |
| 51 Moïse donna alors l’argent du rachat à Aaron et ses fils, selon l’ordre de Yahvé, selon ce que Yahvé avait commandé à Moïse. | 51 and Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses. |
