| 1 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée: “Va t’acheter une ceinture de lin, mets-la sur toi mais ne la trempe pas dans l’eau.” | 1 Thus said the LORD to me, "Go and buy a linen waistcloth, and put it on your loins, and do not dip it in water." |
| 2 Je partis acheter la ceinture, comme il m’était dit, et je la mis sur moi. | 2 So I bought a waistcloth according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins. |
| 3 Une seconde fois la parole de Yahvé me fut adressée. Il me dit: | 3 And the word of the LORD came to me a second time, |
| 4 “Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée et que tu portes sur toi; va au torrent Pérah, et là tu la cacheras dans une fente de rocher.” | 4 "Take the waistcloth which you have bought, which is upon your loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock." |
| 5 Je partis donc la cacher près du torrent Pérah, comme Yahvé me l’avait ordonné. | 5 So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me. |
| 6 Après de nombreux jours Yahvé me dit: “Lève-toi, retourne au Pérah, et là tu reprendras la ceinture que je t’avais ordonné d’y cacher.” | 6 And after many days the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the waistcloth which I commanded you to hide there." |
| 7 Je suis donc retourné au Pérah; là j’ai creusé et repris la ceinture à l’endroit où je l’avais cachée. Mais la ceinture était perdue; elle n’était plus bonne à rien. | 7 Then I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and I took the waistcloth from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the waistcloth was spoiled; it was good for nothing. |
| 8 Alors la parole de Yahvé me fut adressée: | 8 Then the word of the LORD came to me: |
| 9 “Voici ce que dit Yahvé: C’est ainsi que je ruinerai le prestige de Juda et la grande renommée de Jérusalem. | 9 "Thus says the LORD: Even so will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. |
| 10 Ce peuple mauvais refuse d’écouter ma parole et n’en fait qu’à sa tête; il s’est mis à la traîne d’autres dieux pour les servir et les adorer. Eh bien, il en sera de lui comme de cette ceinture qui n’est plus bonne à rien. | 10 This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who stubbornly follow their own heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be like this waistcloth, which is good for nothing. |
| 11 De même qu’on s’attache une ceinture sur les reins, de même je m’étais attaché toute la maison d’Israël et toute la maison de Juda - parole de Yahvé. Je voulais qu’elles soient mon peuple, mon prestige, ma louange et ma gloire; mais ils n’ont pas écouté.” | 11 For as the waistcloth clings to the loins of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, says the LORD, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen. |
| 12 Tu leur diras encore cette parole: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé, le Dieu d’Israël: ‘Toute cruche se remplira de vin.’ S’ils te répondent: ‘Nous savons bien que toute cruche peut se remplir de vin,’ | 12 "You shall speak to them this word: 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, "Every jar shall be filled with wine."' And they will say to you, 'Do we not indeed know that every jar will be filled with wine?' |
| 13 tu ajouteras: ‘Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je vais remplir jusqu’à l’ivresse tous les habitants de ce pays, les rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David, les prêtres et les prophètes et tous les habitants de Jérusalem. | 13 Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will fill with drunkenness all the inhabitants of this land: the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
| 14 Puis je les ferai se briser l’un contre l’autre, les pères aussi bien que les fils - parole de Yahvé. Je n’aurai ni pitié, ni miséricorde, et je les détruirai sans merci.’ ” | 14 And I will dash them one against another, fathers and sons together, says the LORD. I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.'" |
| 15 Écoutez, faites attention, ne faites pas les malins, car c’est Yahvé qui parle. | 15 Hear and give ear; be not proud, for the LORD has spoken. |
| 16 Rendez gloire à Yahvé, votre Dieu, avant que les ténèbres n’arrivent et que vos pieds ne trébuchent sur les montagnes obscures. Vous attendiez la lumière mais il la change en ombres, puis en un brouillard épais. | 16 Give glory to the LORD your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the twilight mountains, and while you look for light he turns it into gloom and makes it deep darkness. |
| 17 Si vous ne tenez pas compte de cet avis, mon âme pleurera en silence à cause de votre orgueil, mes yeux fondront en larmes quand le troupeau de Jacob sera emmené prisonnier. | 17 But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock has been taken captive. |
| 18 Dis ceci au roi et à la reine: “Asseyez-vous par terre; votre glorieuse couronne est tombée de votre tête. | 18 Say to the king and the queen mother: "Take a lowly seat, for your beautiful crown has come down from your head." |
| 19 Les villes du sud sont bloquées et il n’y a plus d’accès; Juda tout entier est déporté, c’est la déportation en masse.” | 19 The cities of the Negeb are shut up, with none to open them; all Judah is taken into exile, wholly taken into exile. |
| 20 Lève les yeux, Jérusalem, et regarde ce qui arrive du nord. Où est-il donc le troupeau dont tu avais la charge, les brebis qui faisaient ta gloire? | 20 "Lift up your eyes and see those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful flock? |
| 21 Que diras-tu quand ceux que tu as habitués à tes caresses viendront te faire la loi? Ne seras-tu pas saisie de douleurs comme une femme qui enfante? | 21 What will you say when they set as head over you those whom you yourself have taught to be friends to you? Will not pangs take hold of you, like those of a woman in travail? |
| 22 Et si tu demandes: “Pourquoi cela m’arrive-t-il?” je répondrai: “C’est à cause de ta faute énorme que ta robe a été relevée et que l’on a frappé tes talons.” | 22 And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things come upon me?' it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up, and you suffer violence. |
| 23 Un Éthiopien peut-il changer la couleur de sa peau? Un léopard peut-il faire passer ses taches? Et vous, habitués à faire le mal, pouvez-vous faire le bien? | 23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then also you can do good who are accustomed to do evil. |
| 24 Je les disperserai donc comme la paille emportée par le vent du désert. | 24 I will scatter you like chaff driven by the wind from the desert. |
| 25 Tel sera ton lot, le sort que je te réserve - parole de Yahvé, car tu m’as oublié et tu t’es livrée au Mensonge. | 25 This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, says the LORD, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies. |
| 26 Aussi je relèverai les pans de ta robe jusque sur ton visage et l’on verra ta nudité. | 26 I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen. |
| 27 Sur les collines, dans la campagne, j’ai vu tes ordures, tes adultères, tes petits cris et ta honteuse prostitution. Malheur à toi Jérusalem, tu restes dans ton impureté: pour combien de temps encore? | 27 I have seen your abominations, your adulteries and neighings, your lewd harlotries, on the hills in the field. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will it be before you are made clean?" |
