Amos 2

1 Così parla il Signore: « A causa delle tre scelleraggini di Moab, anzi delle quattro, non lo revocherò (il decreto), perchè ha bruciate le ossa del re d'Idumea fino a ridurle in cenere.	1 Thus says the Lord: For three wicked deeds of Moab, and for four, I will not convert him, in so far as he has burned the bones of the king of Idumea, all the way to ashes.
2 Ma io manderò in Moab il fuoco, che divorerà i palazzi di Cariot, e Moab morirà nel tumulto, fra il rimbombar delle trombe.	2 And I will send a fire onto Moab, and it will devour the buildings of Kerioth. And Moab will die with a noise, with the blare of a trumpet.
3 Io sterminerò di mezzo a lui il giudice, e con lui ucciderò tutti isuoi principi — dice il Signore ».	3 And I will destroy the judge in their midst, and I will execute all his leaders with him, says the Lord.
4 Così parla il Signore: « A causa delle tre sceleraggini di Giuda, anzi delle quattro, non lo revocherò (il decreto), perchè han rigettata la legge del Signore, non hanno osservati i suoi comandamenti, essendo stati sedotti dai loro idoli, dietro ai quali erano andati i loro padri.	4 Thus says the Lord: For three wicked deeds of Judah, and for four, I will not convert him, in so far as he has rejected the law of the Lord and has not kept his commandments. For their idols, which their fathers followed, have deceived them.
5 Ed io manderò in Giuda il fuoco, che divorerà i palazzi di Gerusalemme ».	5 And I will send a fire onto Judah, and it will devour the buildings of Jerusalem.
6 Così parla il Signore: « A causa delle tre scelleraggini d'Israele, anzi delle quattro, non io revocherò (il decreto), perchè han venduto il giusto per dei pezzi d'argento, ed il povero per un paio di scarpe.	6 Thus says the Lord: For three wicked deeds of Israel, and for four, I will not convert him, in so far as he has sold the just for silver and the poor for shoes.
7 Schiaccian nella polvere della terra le teste dei poveri, e fan piegare la via degli umili; il figlio e il padre sono andati dalla medesima fanciulla, per profanare il mio santo nome.	7 They grind the heads of the poor into the dust of the earth, and they divert the way of the humble. And the son, as well as his father, have gone to the same girl, so that they outrage my holy name.
8 Han riposato sopra le vesti ricevute in pegno, a lato di tutti gli altari, e il vino dei condannati l'hanno bevuto nella casa del loro Dio.	8 And they have lain on garments taken in pledge next to every altar. And they drank the wine of the damned in the house of their God.
9 Eppure fui io che sterminai dinanzi a loro l'Amorreo, l'altezza del quale uguagliava quella dei cedri, e che era forte come una quercia. Io distrussi in alto i suoi frutti, e in basso le sue radici.	9 Yet I exterminated the Amorites before their face, whose height was like the height of cedars, and whose strength was like the oak. And I crushed his fruit from above and his roots below.
10 Fuì io che vi feci salire dalla terra d'Egitto, e vi condussi quaranta anni pel deserto, per darvi il possesso della terra dell'Amorreo,	10 It is I who caused you to ascend from the land of Egypt, and I led you in the wilderness for forty years, so that you might possess the land of the Amorite.
11 e tra i vostri figli suscitai dei profeti e tra i vostri giovani dei Nazarei. Non è così, o figli d'Israele? — dice il Signore.	11 And I stirred up prophets from your sons, and Nazirites from your young men. Is it not so, sons of Israel, says the Lord?
12 E voi farete bere il vino ai Nazarei, e darete ai profeti quest'ordine: « Non profetate ».	12 Yet you would offer wine to the Nazirites, and you would command the prophets, saying: “Do not prophesy.”
13 Ecco io striderò sotto di voi come stride un carro carico di fieno.	13 Behold, I will creak under you, just as a wagon creaks that is laden with hay.
14 E l'uomo veloce non potrà fuggire, e il vigoroso non potrà servirsi della sua forza, e il robusto non potrà salvare la sua vita.	14 And flight will perish from the swift, and the strong will not maintain his strength, and the healthy will not save his life.
15 E Carcere non potrà resistere, e chi è dai piè veloci non potrà salvarsi, e il cavaliere non salverà la sua vita,	15 And one holding the bow will not stand firm, and the swift of foot will not be saved, and the rider on the horse will not save his life.
16 e il più coraggioso tra i forti fuggirà nudo in quel giorno — dice il Signore ».	16 And the stout of heart among the strong will flee away naked in that day, says the Lord.
