| 1 וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר נִבְנְתָה הַחֹומָה וָאַעֲמִיד הַדְּלָתֹות וַיִּפָּקְדוּ הַשֹּׁועֲרִים וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִים וְהַלְוִיִּם | 1 Now when the wall had been built and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed, |
| 2 וָאֲצַוֶּה אֶת־חֲנָנִי אָחִי וְאֶת־חֲנַנְיָה שַׂר הַבִּירָה עַל־יְרוּשָׁלִָם כִּי־הוּא כְּאִישׁ אֱמֶת וְיָרֵא אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים מֵרַבִּים | 2 I gave my brother Hanani and Hananiah the governor of the castle charge over Jerusalem, for he was a more faithful and God-fearing man than many. |
| 3 [וַיֹּאמֶר כ] (וָאֹמַר ק) לָהֶם לֹא יִפָּתְחוּ שַׁעֲרֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם עַד־חֹם הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ וְעַד הֵם עֹמְדִים יָגִיפוּ הַדְּלָתֹות וֶאֱחֹזוּ וְהַעֲמֵיד מִשְׁמְרֹות יֹשְׁבֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם אִישׁ בְּמִשְׁמָרֹו וְאִישׁ נֶגֶד בֵּיתֹו | 3 And I said to them, "Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they are still standing guard let them shut and bar the doors. Appoint guards from among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each to his station and each opposite his own house." |
| 4 וְהָעִיר רַחֲבַת יָדַיִם וּגְדֹולָה וְהָעָם מְעַט בְּתֹוכָהּ וְאֵין בָּתִּים בְּנוּיִם | 4 The city was wide and large, but the people within it were few and no houses had been built. |
| 5 וַיִּתֵּן אֱלֹהַי אֶל־לִבִּי וָאֶקְבְּצָה אֶת־הַחֹרִים וְאֶת־הַסְּגָנִים וְאֶת־הָעָם לְהִתְיַחֵשׂ וָאֶמְצָא סֵפֶר הַיַּחַשׂ הָעֹולִים בָּרִאשֹׁונָה וָאֶמְצָא כָּתוּב בֹּו׃ פ | 5 Then God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles and the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found written in it: |
| 6 אֵלֶּה ׀ בְּנֵי הַמְּדִינָה הָעֹלִים מִשְּׁבִי הַגֹּולָה אֲשֶׁר הֶגְלָה נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל וַיָּשׁוּבוּ לִירוּשָׁלִַם וְלִיהוּדָה אִישׁ לְעִירֹו | 6 These were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried into exile; they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his town. |
| 7 הַבָּאִים עִם־זְרֻבָּבֶל יֵשׁוּעַ נְחֶמְיָה עֲזַרְיָה רַעַמְיָה נַחֲמָנִי מָרְדֳּכַי בִּלְשָׁן מִסְפֶּרֶת בִּגְוַי נְחוּם בַּעֲנָה מִסְפַּר אַנְשֵׁי עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ ס | 7 They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel: |
| 8 בְּנֵי פַרְעֹשׁ אַלְפַּיִם מֵאָה וְשִׁבְעִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 8 the sons of Parosh, two thousand a hundred and seventy-two. |
| 9 בְּנֵי שְׁפַטְיָה שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות שִׁבְעִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 9 The sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two. |
| 10 בְּנֵי אָרַח שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות חֲמִשִּׁים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 10 The sons of Arah, six hundred and fifty-two. |
| 11 בְּנֵי־פַחַת מֹואָב לִבְנֵי יֵשׁוּעַ וְיֹואָב אַלְפַּיִם וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאֹות שְׁמֹנָה עָשָׂר׃ ס | 11 The sons of Pahath-moab, namely the sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and eighteen. |
| 12 בְּנֵי עֵילָם אֶלֶף מָאתַיִם חֲמִשִּׁים וְאַרְבָּעָה׃ ס | 12 The sons of Elam, a thousand two hundred and fifty-four. |
| 13 בְּנֵי זַתּוּא שְׁמֹנֶה מֵאֹות אַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה׃ ס | 13 The sons of Zattu, eight hundred and forty-five. |
| 14 בְּנֵי זַכָּי שְׁבַע מֵאֹות וְשִׁשִּׁים׃ ס | 14 The sons of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty. |
| 15 בְּנֵי בִנּוּי שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁמֹנָה׃ ס | 15 The sons of Binnui, six hundred and forty-eight. |
| 16 בְּנֵי בֵבָי שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁמֹנָה׃ ס | 16 The sons of Bebai, six hundred and twenty-eight. |
| 17 בְּנֵי עַזְגָּד אַלְפַּיִם שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 17 The sons of Azgad, two thousand three hundred and twenty-two. |
| 18 בְּנֵי אֲדֹנִיקָם שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות שִׁשִּׁים וְשִׁבְעָה׃ ס | 18 The sons of Adonikam, six hundred and sixty-seven. |
| 19 בְּנֵי בִגְוָי אַלְפַּיִם שִׁשִּׁים וְשִׁבְעָה׃ ס | 19 The sons of Bigvai, two thousand and sixty-seven. |

| 25 בְּנֵי גִבְעֹון תִּשְׁעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה׃ ס | 25 The sons of Gibeon, ninety-five. |
| 26 אַנְשֵׁי בֵית־לֶחֶם וּנְטֹפָה מֵאָה שְׁמֹנִים וּשְׁמֹנָה׃ ס | 26 The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, a hundred and eighty-eight. |
| 27 אַנְשֵׁי עֲנָתֹות מֵאָה עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁמֹנָה׃ ס | 27 The men of Anathoth, a hundred and twenty-eight. |
| 28 אַנְשֵׁי בֵית־עַזְמָוֶת אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 28 The men of Beth-azmaveth, forty-two. |
| 29 אַנְשֵׁי קִרְיַת יְעָרִים כְּפִירָה וּבְאֵרֹות שְׁבַע מֵאֹות אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁלֹשָׁה׃ ס | 29 The men of Kiriath-jearim, Chephirah, and Be-eroth, seven hundred and forty-three. |
| 30 אַנְשֵׁי הָרָמָה וָגָבַע שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות עֶשְׂרִים וְאֶחָד׃ ס | 30 The men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one. |
| 31 אַנְשֵׁי מִכְמָס מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 31 The men of Michmas, a hundred and twenty-two. |
| 32 אַנְשֵׁי בֵית־אֵל וְהָעָי מֵאָה עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁלֹשָׁה׃ ס | 32 The men of Bethel and Ai, a hundred and twenty-three. |
| 33 אַנְשֵׁי נְבֹו אַחֵר חֲמִשִּׁים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 33 The men of the other Nebo, fifty-two. |
| 34 בְּנֵי עֵילָם אַחֵר אֶלֶף מָאתַיִם חֲמִשִּׁים וְאַרְבָּעָה׃ ס | 34 The sons of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred and fifty-four. |
| 35 בְּנֵי חָרִם שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות וְעֶשְׂרִים׃ ס | 35 The sons of Harim, three hundred and twenty. |
| 36 בְּנֵי יְרֵחֹו שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות אַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה׃ ס | 36 The sons of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five. |
| 37 בְּנֵי־לֹד חָדִיד וְאֹונֹו שְׁבַע מֵאֹות וְעֶשְׂרִים וְאֶחָד׃ ס | 37 The sons of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-one. |
| 38 בְּנֵי סְנָאָה שְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים תְּשַׁע מֵאֹות וּשְׁלֹשִׁים׃ פ | 38 The sons of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty. |
| 39 הַכֹּהֲנִים בְּנֵי יְדַעְיָה לְבֵית יֵשׁוּעַ תְּשַׁע מֵאֹות שִׁבְעִים וּשְׁלֹשָׁה׃ ס | 39 The priests: the sons of Jedaiah, namely the house of Jeshua, nine hundred and seventy-three. |
| 40 בְּנֵי אִמֵּר אֶלֶף חֲמִשִּׁים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 40 The sons of Immer, a thousand and fifty-two. |
| 41 בְּנֵי פַשְׁחוּר אֶלֶף מָאתַיִם אַרְבָּעִים וְשִׁבְעָה׃ ס | 41 The sons of Pashhur, a thousand two hundred and forty-seven. |
| 42 בְּנֵי חָרִם אֶלֶף שִׁבְעָה עָשָׂר׃ פ | 42 The sons of Harim, a thousand and seventeen. |
| 43 הַלְוִיִּם בְּנֵי־יֵשׁוּעַ לְקַדְמִיאֵל לִבְנֵי לְהֹודְוָה שִׁבְעִים וְאַרְבָּעָה׃ ס | 43 The Levites: the sons of Jeshua, namely of Kadmi-el of the sons of Hodevah, seventy-four. |
| 44 הַמְשֹׁרְרִים בְּנֵי אָסָף מֵאָה אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁמֹנָה׃ ס | 44 The singers: the sons of Asaph, a hundred and forty-eight. |
| 45 הַשֹּׁעֲרִים בְּנֵי־שַׁלּוּם בְּנֵי־אָטֵר בְּנֵי־טַלְמֹן בְּנֵי־עַקּוּב בְּנֵי חֲטִיטָא בְּנֵי שֹׁבָי מֵאָה שְׁלֹשִׁים וּשְׁמֹנָה׃ ס | 45 The gatekeepers: the sons of Shallum, the sons of Ater, the sons of Talmon, the sons of Akkub, the sons of Hatita, the sons of Shobai, a hundred and thirty-eight. |
| 46 הַנְּתִינִים בְּנֵי־צִחָא בְנֵי־חֲשֻׂפָא בְּנֵי טַבָּעֹות | 46 The temple servants: the sons of Ziha, the sons of Hasupha, the sons of Tabbaoth, |
| 47 בְּנֵי־קֵירֹס בְּנֵי־סִיעָא בְּנֵי פָדֹון | 47 the sons of Keros, the sons of Sia, the sons of Padon, |
| 48 בְּנֵי־לְבָנָה בְנֵי־חֲגָבָה בְּנֵי שַׁלְמָי | 48 the sons of Lebana, the sons of Hagaba, the sons of Shalmai, |
| 49 בְּנֵי־חָנָן בְּנֵי־גִדֵּל בְּנֵי־גָחַר | 49 the sons of Hanan, the sons of Giddel, the sons of Gahar, |
| 50 בְּנֵי־רְאָיָה בְנֵי־רְצִין בְּנֵי נְקֹודָא | 50 the sons of Re-aiah, the sons of Rezin, the sons of Nekoda, |
| 51 בְּנֵי־גַזָּם בְּנֵי־עֻזָּא בְּנֵי פָסֵחַ | 51 the sons of Gazzam, the sons of Uzza, the sons of Paseah, |
| 52 בְּנֵי־בֵסַי בְּנֵי־מְעוּנִים בְּנֵי [נְפוּשְׁסִים כ] (נְפִישְׁסִים׃ ק) | 52 the sons of Besai, the sons of Me-unim, the sons of Nephushesim, |
| 53 בְּנֵי־בַקְבּוּק בְּנֵי־חֲקוּפָא בְּנֵי חַרְחוּר | 53 the sons of Bakbuk, the sons of Hakupha, the sons of Harhur, |
| 54 בְּנֵי־בַצְלִית בְּנֵי־מְחִידָא בְּנֵי חַרְשָׁא | 54 the sons of Bazlith, the sons of Mehida, the sons of Harsha, |
| 55 בְּנֵי־בַרְקֹוס בְּנֵי־סִיסְרָא בְּנֵי־תָמַח | 55 the sons of Barkos, the sons of Sisera, the sons of Temah, |
| 56 בְּנֵי נְצִיחַ בְּנֵי חֲטִיפָא | 56 the sons of Neziah, the sons of Hatipha. |
| 57 בְּנֵי עַבְדֵי שְׁלֹמֹה בְּנֵי־סֹוטַי בְּנֵי־סֹופֶרֶת בְּנֵי פְרִידָא | 57 The sons of Solomon's servants: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Sophereth, the sons of Perida, |
| 58 בְּנֵי־יַעְלָא בְנֵי־דַרְקֹון בְּנֵי גִדֵּל | 58 the sons of Jaala, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel, |
| 59 בְּנֵי שְׁפַטְיָה בְנֵי־חַטִּיל בְּנֵי פֹּכֶרֶת הַצְּבָיִים בְּנֵי אָמֹון | 59 the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the sons of Amon. |
| 60 כָּל־הַנְּתִינִים וּבְנֵי עַבְדֵי שְׁלֹמֹה שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות תִּשְׁעִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ פ | 60 All the temple servants and the sons of Solomon's servants were three hundred and ninety-two. |
| 61 וְאֵלֶּה הָעֹולִים מִתֵּל מֶלַח תֵּל חַרְשָׁא כְּרוּב אַדֹּון וְאִמֵּר וְלֹא יָכְלוּ לְהַגִּיד בֵּית־אֲבֹותָם וְזַרְעָם אִם מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל הֵם | 61 The following were those who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but they could not prove their fathers' houses nor their descent, whether they belonged to Israel: |
| 62 בְּנֵי־דְלָיָה בְנֵי־טֹובִיָּה בְּנֵי נְקֹודָא שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות וְאַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁנָיִם׃ ס | 62 the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and forty-two. |
| 63 וּמִן־הַכֹּהֲנִים בְּנֵי חֳבַיָּה בְּנֵי הַקֹּוץ בְּנֵי בַרְזִלַּי אֲשֶׁר לָקַח מִבְּנֹות בַּרְזִלַּי הַגִּלְעָדִי אִשָּׁה וַיִּקָּרֵא עַל־שְׁמָם | 63 Also, of the priests: the sons of Hobaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzillai (who had taken a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name). |
| 64 אֵלֶּה בִּקְשׁוּ כְתָבָם הַמִּתְיַחְשִׂים וְלֹא נִמְצָא וַיְגֹאֲלוּ מִן־הַכְּהֻנָּה | 64 These sought their registration among those enrolled in the genealogies, but it was not found there, so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean; |
| 65 וַיֹּאמֶר הַתִּרְשָׁתָא לָהֶם אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יֹאכְלוּ מִקֹּדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים עַד עֲמֹד הַכֹּהֵן לְאוּרִים וְתוּמִּים | 65 the governor told them that they were not to partake of the most holy food, until a priest with Urim and Thummim should arise. |
| 66 כָּל־הַקָּהָל כְּאֶחָד אַרְבַּע רִבֹּוא אַלְפַּיִם שְׁלֹשׁ־מֵאֹות וְשִׁשִּׁים | 66 The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty, |
| 67 מִלְּבַד עַבְדֵיהֶם וְאַמְהֹתֵיהֶם אֵלֶּה שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאֹות שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁבְעָה וְלָהֶם מְשֹׁרֲרִים וּמְשֹׁרֲרֹות מָאתַיִם וְאַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה׃ ס | 67 besides their menservants and maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred and forty-five singers, male and female. |
| 68 גְּמַלִּים אַרְבַּע מֵאֹות שְׁלֹשִׁים וַחֲמִשָּׁה ס חֲמֹרִים שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים שְׁבַע מֵאֹות וְעֶשְׂרִים | 68 Their horses were seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules two hundred and forty-five, |
| 69 וּמִקְצָת רָאשֵׁי הָאָבֹות נָתְנוּ לַמְּלָאכָה הַתִּרְשָׁתָא נָתַן לָאֹוצָר זָהָב דַּרְכְּמֹנִים אֶלֶף מִזְרָקֹות חֲמִשִּׁים כָּתְנֹות כֹּהֲנִים שְׁלֹשִׁים וַחֲמֵשׁ מֵאֹות | 69 their camels four hundred and thirty-five, and their asses six thousand seven hundred and twenty. |
| 70 וּמֵרָאשֵׁי הָאָבֹות נָתְנוּ לְאֹוצַר הַמְּלָאכָה זָהָב דַּרְכְּמֹונִים שְׁתֵּי רִבֹּות וְכֶסֶף מָנִים אַלְפַּיִם וּמָאתָיִם | 70 Now some of the heads of fathers' houses gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury a thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, five hundred and thirty priests' garments. |
| 71 וַאֲשֶׁר נָתְנוּ שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם זָהָב דַּרְכְּמֹונִים שְׁתֵּי רִבֹּוא וְכֶסֶף מָנִים אַלְפָּיִם וְכָתְנֹת כֹּהֲנִים שִׁשִּׁים וְשִׁבְעָה׃ פ | 71 And some of the heads of fathers' houses gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold and two thousand two hundred minas of silver. |
| 72 וַיֵּשְׁבוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם וְהַשֹּׁועֲרִים וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִים וּמִן־הָעָם וְהַנְּתִינִים וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּעָרֵיהֶם וַיִּגַּע הַחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּעָרֵיהֶם | 72 And what the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests' garments. |
| 73 So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel, lived in their towns. And when the seventh month had come, the children of Israel were in their towns. |
