1 וַיִּוָּעַץ דָּוִיד עִם־שָׂרֵי הָאֲלָפִים וְהַמֵּאֹות לְכָל־נָגִיד	1 David conferred with the commanders of the thousands and the hundreds, in fact with al the leaders.
2 וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד לְכֹל ׀ קְהַל יִשְׂרָאֵל אִם־עֲלֵיכֶם טֹוב וּמִן־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ נִפְרְצָה נִשְׁלְחָה עַל־אַחֵינוּ הַנִּשְׁאָרִים בְּכֹל אַרְצֹות יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעִמָּהֶם הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם בְּעָרֵי מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם וְיִקָּבְצוּ אֵלֵינוּ	2 Then, to the whole assembly of Israel, David said, 'If this has your approval, and if Yahweh our Godwil s it so, we shal send messengers to the rest of our brothers throughout the territories of Israel, and also tothe priests and Levites in their towns and pasture lands, bidding them join us.
3 וְנָסֵבָּה אֶת־אֲרֹון אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֵלֵינוּ כִּי־לֹא דְרַשְׁנֻהוּ בִּימֵי שָׁאוּל	3 And then we will go and recover the ark of our God, for in the days of Saul we neglected to do it.'
4 וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָל־הַקָּהָל לַעֲשֹׂות כֵּן כִּי־יָשַׁר הַדָּבָר בְּעֵינֵי כָל־הָעָם	4 The whole assembly agreed to this, because al the people thought that this was the right thing to do.
5 וַיַּקְהֵל דָּוִיד אֶת־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן־שִׁיחֹור מִצְרַיִם וְעַד־לְבֹוא חֲמָת לְהָבִיא אֶת־אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים מִקִּרְיַת יְעָרִים	5 So David summoned al Israel from the Shihor of Egypt to the Pass of Hamath, to bring the ark of Godfrom Kiriath-Jearim.
6 וַיַּעַל דָּוִיד וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּעֲלָתָה אֶל־קִרְיַת יְעָרִים אֲשֶׁר לִיהוּדָה לְהַעֲלֹות מִשָּׁם אֵת אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים ׀ יְהוָה יֹושֵׁב הַכְּרוּבִים אֲשֶׁר־נִקְרָא שֵׁם	6 David and al Israel then went up to Baalah, to Kiriath-Jearim in Judah, from there to bring up the arkof God, which bears the title 'Yahweh enthroned on the winged creatures'.
7 וַיַּרְכִּיבוּ אֶת־אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים עַל־עֲגָלָה חֲדָשָׁה מִבֵּית אֲבִינָדָב וְעֻזָּא וְאַחְיֹו נֹהֲגִים בָּעֲגָלָה	7 They transported the ark of God out of Abinadab's house on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio drove thecart.
8 וְדָוִיד וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל מְשַׂחֲקִים לִפְנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים בְּכָל־עֹז וּבְשִׁירִים וּבְכִנֹּרֹות וּבִנְבָלִים וּבְתֻפִּים וּבִמְצִלְתַּיִם וּבַחֲצֹצְרֹות	8 David and al Israel danced before God with al their might, singing to the accompaniment of harps,lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.
9 וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד־גֹּרֶן כִּידֹן וַיִּשְׁלַח עֻזָּא אֶת־יָדֹו לֶאֱחֹז אֶת־הָאָרֹון כִּי שָׁמְטוּ הַבָּקָר	9 When they came to the threshing-floor of the Javelin, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark,as the oxen were making it tilt.
10 וַיִּחַר־אַף יְהוָה בְּעֻזָּא וַיַּכֵּהוּ עַל אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַח יָדֹו עַל־הָאָרֹון וַיָּמָת שָׁם לִפְנֵי אֱלֹהִים	10 This roused Yahweh's anger against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had laid his handon the Ark, and there he died before God.
11 וַיִּחַר לְדָוִיד כִּי־פָרַץ יְהוָה פֶּרֶץ בְּעֻזָּא וַיִּקְרָא לַמָּקֹום הַהוּא פֶּרֶץ עֻזָּא עַד הַיֹּום הַזֶּה	11 David resented Yahweh's having broken out against Uzzah, and the place was given the namePerez-Uzzah, which it stil has today.
12 וַיִּירָא דָוִיד אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים בַּיֹּום הַהוּא לֵאמֹר הֵיךְ אָבִיא אֵלַי אֵת אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים	12 That day David felt afraid of God. 'How can I bring the ark of God to be with me?' he said.
13 וְלֹא־הֵסִיר דָּוִיד אֶת־הָאָרֹון אֵלָיו אֶל־עִיר דָּוִיד וַיַּטֵּהוּ אֶל־בֵּית עֹבֵד־אֱדֹם הַגִּתִּי	13 So David did not take the ark with him into the City of David but had it put in the house of Obed-Edom of Gath.
14 וַיֵּשֶׁב אֲרֹון הָאֱלֹהִים עִם־בֵּית עֹבֵד אֱדֹם בְּבֵיתֹו שְׁלֹשָׁה חֳדָשִׁים וַיְבָרֶךְ יְהוָה אֶת־בֵּית עֹבֵד־אֱדֹם וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֹו׃ פ	14 The ark of God remained with Obed-Edom, in his house, for three months, and Yahweh blessedObed-Edom's family and everything that belonged to him.
