LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 C'era tra i farisei un uomo di nome Nicodemo, un capo dei Giudei.	1 There was one of the Pharisees called Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews,
2 Questi venne da lui di notte e gli disse: "Rabbì, noi sappiamo che sei venuto da Dio come maestro. Nessuno infatti può fare questi segni che tu fai se Dio non è con lui".	2 who came to Jesus by night and said, 'Rabbi, we know that you have come from God as a teacher; forno one could perform the signs that you do unless God were with him.'
3 Rispose Gesù: "In verità, in verità ti dico: Se uno non è nato dall'alto, non può vedere il regno di Dio".	3 Jesus answered: In al truth I tel you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born fromabove.
4 Gli dice Nicodemo: "Come può un uomo nascere se è vecchio? Può forse entrare una seconda volta nel grembo di sua madre e nascere?".	4 Nicodemus said, 'How can anyone who is already old be born? Is it possible to go back into the wombagain and be born?'
5 Gesù rispose: "In verità, in verità ti dico: se uno non è nato dall'acqua e dallo Spirito, non può entrare nel regno di Dio.	5 Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born throughwater and the Spirit;
6 Il nato dalla carne è carne e il nato dallo Spirito è spirito.	6 what is born of human nature is human; what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Non meravigliarti che ti abbia detto: voi dovete nascere dall'alto.	7 Do not be surprised when I say: You must be born from above.
8 Il vento soffia dove vuole, senti il suo sibilo, ma non sai donde viene né dove va. Così è chiunque è nato dallo Spirito".	8 The wind blows where it pleases; you can hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from orwhere it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
9 "Come possono avvenire questi fatti?", riprese Nicodemo.	9 'How is that possible?' asked Nicodemus.
10 Rispose Gesù: "Tu sei maestro in Israele e non conosci queste cose?	10 Jesus replied, 'You are the Teacher of Israel, and you do not know these things!
11 In verità, in verità ti dico: noi parliamo di ciò che sappiamo e testimoniamo ciò che abbiamo visto, ma voi non accogliete la nostra testimonianza.	11 'In al truth I tel you, we speak only about what we know and witness only to what we have seen and yet you people reject our evidence.
12 Se non credete quando vi ho detto cose terrene, come crederete qualora vi dica cose celesti?	12 If you do not believe me when I speak to you about earthly things, how wil you believe me when Ispeak to you about heavenly things?
13 Nessuno è salito al cielo se non colui che è disceso dal cielo, il Figlio dell'uomo, che è in cielo.	13 No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven, the Son of man;
14 E come Mosè innalzò il serpente nel deserto, così deve essere innalzato il Figlio dell'uomo,	14 as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up
15 affinché chiunque crede in lui abbia la vita eterna.	15 so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
16 Dio infatti ha tanto amato il mondo, che ha dato il Figlio suo Unigenito affinché chiunque crede in lui non perisca, ma abbia la vita eterna.	16 For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him maynot perish but may have eternal life.
17 Dio infatti non mandò il Figlio nel mondo per condannare il mondo, ma perché il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui.	17 For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might besaved.
18 Chi crede in lui non viene condannato; chi non crede in lui è già condannato, perché non ha creduto nel nome del Figlio Unigenito di Dio.	18 No one who believes in him wil be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already, becausethat person does not believe in the Name of God's only Son.
19 Ora il giudizio è questo: la luce venne nel mondo, ma gli uomini hanno amato più le tenebre che la luce, perché le loro opere erano malvagie.	19 And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness tothe light because their deeds were evil.
20 Poiché: chiunque fa il male odia la luce e non viene alla luce, perché le sue opere non siano smascherate.	20 And indeed, everybody who does wrong hates the light and avoids it, to prevent his actions from beingshown up;
21 Colui invece che fa la verità viene alla luce, perché si riveli che le sue opere sono operate in Dio".	21 but whoever does the truth comes out into the light, so that what he is doing may plainly appear asdone in God.'
22 In seguito Gesù e i suoi discepoli vennero nel territorio della Giudea e lì si trattenne con loro e battezzava.	22 After this, Jesus went with his disciples into the Judaean countryside and stayed with them there andbaptised.
23 Anche Giovanni stava battezzando a Ennon vicino a Salim, perché là le acque erano abbondanti, e la gente accorreva e si faceva battezzare.	23 John also was baptising at Aenon near Salim, where there was plenty of water, and people were goingthere and were being baptised.
24 Giovanni infatti non era ancora stato messo in prigione.	24 For John had not yet been put in prison.
25 Sorse allora una disputa fra i discepoli di Giovanni e un giudeo a proposito della purificazione.	25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew about purification,
26 Andarono da Giovanni e gli dissero: "Rabbì, colui che era con te al di là del Giordano, cui tu hai reso testimonianza, ecco che battezza e tutti vanno da lui".	26 so they went to John and said, 'Rabbi, the man who was with you on the far side of the Jordan, theman to whom you bore witness, is baptising now, and everyone is going to him.'
27 Rispose Giovanni: "Non può un uomo prendere nulla se non gli è dato dal cielo.	27 John replied: 'No one can have anything except what is given him from heaven.
28 Voi stessi mi siete testimoni che ho detto: "Non sono io il Cristo, ma sono colui che è stato mandato davanti a lui".	28 'You yourselves can bear me out. I said, "I am not the Christ; I am the one who has been sent to go infront of him."
29 Colui che ha la sposa è lo sposo; ma l'amico dello sposo, che gli sta vicino e l'ascolta, è ripieno di gioia per la voce dello sposo. Questa gioia, che è la mia, ora è perfetta.	29 'It is the bridegroom who has the bride; and yet the bridegroom's friend, who stands there and listensto him, is fil ed with joy at the bridegroom's voice. This is the joy I feel, and it is complete.
30 Egli deve crescere, io invece diminuire".	30 He must grow greater, I must grow less.
31 Colui che viene dall'alto è sopra di tutti. Colui che è dalla terra appartiene alla terra e parla da uomo della terra. Colui che viene dal cielo è sopra di tutti.	31 He who comes from above is above al others; he who is of the earth is earthly himself and speaks inan earthly way. He who comes from heaven
32 Egli testimonia ciò che ha visto e udito, ma nessuno accoglie la sua testimonianza.	32 bears witness to the things he has seen and heard, but his testimony is not accepted by anybody;
33 Colui che accoglie la sua testimonianza, ratifica che Dio è verace.	33 though anyone who does accept his testimony is attesting that God is true,
34 Infatti colui che Dio ha mandato, dice le parole di Dio, poiché dà lo Spirito senza misura.	34 since he whom God has sent speaks God's own words, for God gives him the Spirit without reserve.
35 Il Padre ama il Figlio e ha tutto rimesso nella sua mano.	35 The Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything to his hands.
36 Chi crede nel Figlio ha la vita eterna; chi invece disobbedisce al Figlio non vedrà la vita, ma l'ira di Dio è sopra di lui.	36 Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life, but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son willnever see life: God's retribution hangs over him.'
