| 3 Alcuni hanno governato i loro regni e sono stati famosi per la loro potenza, altri sono stati consiglieri, capaci per la loro sapienza, ed hanno parlato per virtù profetica. | 3 There were those who ruled in their kingdoms, and were men renowned for their power, giving counsel by their understanding, and proclaiming prophecies; |
| 4 Alcuni hanno guidato il popolo coi loro consigli: comprendevano la legge del popolo e avevano parole sagge per la sua istruzione; | 4 leaders of the people in their deliberations and in understanding of learning for the people, wise in their words of instruction; |
| 5 altri hanno composto melodie musicali o hanno scritto racconti poetici; | 5 those who composed musical tunes, and set forth verses in writing; |
| 6 altri sono stati dotati di ricchezza e di forza vivendo in pace nelle loro dimore: | 6 rich men furnished with resources, |
| 7 tutti sono stati illustri nella loro epoca e hanno parlato per virtù profetica. | 7 living peaceably in their habitations all these were honored in their generations, and were the glory of their times. |
| 8 Di loro alcuni hanno lasciato un nome, perché se ne celebrasse dopo la lode; | 8 There are some of them who have left a name, so that men declare their praise. |
| 9 e ci sono quelli di cui non c'è memoria, che sono scomparsi come se non fossero esistiti e sono diventati come quelli non generati, non solo loro, ma anche i loro figli dopo di loro. | 9 And there are some who have no memorial, who have perished as though they had not lived; they have become as though they had not been born, and so have their children after them. |
| 10 Ma non così per questi uomini fedeli, le cui gesta non sono state dimenticate. | 10 But these were men of mercy, whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten; |
| 11 Dal loro ceppo si propaga una preziosa eredità, i loro posteri; | 11 their prosperity will remain with their descendants, and their inheritance to their children's children. |
| 12 la loro discendenza è fedele all'alleanza, questo fanno i loro figli per loro merito. | 12 Their descendants stand by the covenants; their children also, for their sake. |
| 13 La loro discendenza rimane per sempre, la loro gloria non sarà cancellata. | 13 Their posterity will continue for ever, and their glory will not be blotted out. |
| 14 I loro corpi sono sepolti in pace e il loro nome vive per sempre. | 14 Their bodies were buried in peace, and their name lives to all generations. |
| 15 Perfino i popoli narreranno la loro sapienza mentre la nostra assemblea ne canterà la lode. | 15 Peoples will declare their wisdom, and the congregation proclaims their praise. |
| 16 Enoch piacque al Signore e fu portato in cielo, vero esempio di conversione per le generazioni seguenti. | 16 Enoch pleased the Lord, and was taken up; he was an example of repentance to all generations. |
| 17 Noè fu trovato perfetto e giusto, nel tempo dell'ira servì per la riconciliazione; grazie a lui si salvò un resto sulla terra quando ci fu il diluvio. | 17 Noah was found perfect and righteous; in the time of wrath he was taken in exchange; therefore a remnant was left to the earth when the flood came. |
| 18 Un'alleanza perpetua fu stabilita con lui, perché nulla perdesse più la vita col diluvio. | 18 Everlasting covenants were made with him that all flesh should not be blotted out by a flood. |
| 19 Abramo fu padre illustre di molti popoli, la sua gloria fu senza riprovazione. | 19 Abraham was the great father of a multitude of nations, and no one has been found like him in glory; |
| 20 Ha osservato la legge dell'Altissimo e stette in alleanza con lui, ponendone il segno nella sua carne; nella prova fu trovato fedele. | 20 he kept the law of the Most High, and was taken into covenant with him; he established the covenant in his flesh, and when he was tested he was found faithful. |
| 21 Perciò Dio gli assicurò con giuramento di benedire i popoli con la sua discendenza, di farlo moltiplicare come la polvere della terra e d'innalzare la sua progenie come gli astri, perché la loro eredità fosse da mare a mare e dal fiume sino ai confini della terra. | 21 Therefore the Lord assured him by an oath that the nations would be blessed through his posterity; that he would multiply him like the dust of the earth, and exalt his posterity like the stars, and cause them to inherit from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. |
| 22 Tutto ciò confermò per Isacco in virtù di Abramo suo padre. | 22 To Isaac also he gave the same assurance for the sake of Abraham his father. |
| 23 La benedizione di tutti gli uomini e l'alleanza ha fatto posare sul capo di Giacobbe; gli ha mantenuto le benedizioni, dandogli la sua eredità divisa nelle varie porzioni per distribuirla alle dodici tribù. | 23 The blessing of all men and the covenant he made to rest upon the head of Jacob; he acknowledged him with his blessings, and gave him his inheritance; he determined his portions, and distributed them among twelve tribes. |
