Siracide 4

1 Figlio, non defraudare il povero del necessario alla vita e non fare aspettare gli occhi che dicono bisogno.	1 My son, rob not the poor man of his livelihood; force not the eyes of the needy to turn away.
2 Non disprezzare chi ha fame e non esasperare chi è in difficoltà.	2 A hungry man grieve not, a needy man anger not;
3 Non esacerbare il cuore esasperato e non rifiutare un dono a chi chiede.	3 Do not exasperate the downtrodden; delay not to give to the needy.
4 Non respingere l'afflitto che ti supplica e non stornare la faccia dal povero.	4 A beggar in distress do not reject; avert not your face from the poor.
5 Non sviare l'occhio dal bisognoso, per non dargli motivo di maledirti:	5 From the needy turn not your eyes, give no man reason to curse you;
6 se ti maledice nell'amarezza del suo cuore, Colui che l'ha fatto esaudirà la sua preghiera.	6 For if in the bitterness of his soul he curse you, his Creator will hear his prayer.
7 Renditi amabile con l'assemblea, ma con le autorità umilia il tuo capo.	7 Endear yourself to the assembly; before a ruler bow your head.
8 Piega verso il povero il tuo orecchio e rispondigli miti parole di pace.	8 Give a hearing to the poor man, and return his greeting with courtesy;
9 Libera l'oppresso dalla mano dell'oppressore, senza essere timido nel dare il giudizio.	9 Deliver the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor; let not justice be repugnant to you.
10 Sii un padre per gli orfani e come un marito per le loro madri: così sarai tu vero figlio dell'Altissimo, che ti amerà più di tua madre.	10 To the fatherless be as a father, and help their mother as a husband would; Thus will you be like a son to the Most High, and he will be more tender to you than a mother.
11 La sapienza fa crescere i suoi figli e ha cura di quanti la cercano.	11 Wisdom instructs her children and admonishes those who seek her.
12 Chi l'ama, ama la vita, si rallegreranno quanti l'aspettano prima dell'aurora.	12 He who loves her loves life; those who seek her out win her favor.
13 Chi la possiede erediterà la gloria, dovunque vada, il Signore lo benedirà.	13 He who holds her fast inherits glory; wherever he dwells, the LORD bestows blessings.
14 Chi vi si consacra serve il Santo, il Signore ama quanti l'amano.	14 Those who serve her serve the Holy One; those who love her the LORD loves.
15 Chi le è docile giudicherà le nazioni, e chi la coltiva avrà la casa tranquilla.	15 He who obeys her judges nations; he who hearkens to her dwells in her inmost chambers.
16 Se uno le s'affida, l'avrà in possesso, e ne saranno forniti i suoi discendenti.	16 If one trusts her, he will possess her; his descendants too will inherit her.
17 Dapprima lo farà camminare per vie tortuose, mettendogli addosso paura e trepidazione, lo tormenterà con la sua disciplina; prima di affidarsi a lui lo metterà alla prova con i suoi decreti;	17 She walks with him as a stranger, and at first she puts him to the test; Fear and dread she brings upon him and tries him with her discipline; With her precepts she puts him to the proof, until his heart is fully with her.
18 ma dopo un poco a lui farà ritorno e lo rallegrerà, gli farà noti i suoi segreti.	18 Then she comes back to bring him happiness and reveal her secrets to him.
19 Se poi lui si allontana, essa l'abbandona e lo consegna nelle mani della sua rovina.	19 But if he fails her, she will abandon him and deliver him into the hands of despoilers.
20 Tenuto conto di quest'epoca, guardati dal male, senza vergognarti di te stesso:	20 Use your time well; guard yourself from evil, and bring upon yourself no shame.
21 perché c'è una vergogna che conduce al peccato e c'è una vergogna che porta gloria e grazia.	21 There is a sense of shame laden with guilt, and a shame that merits honor and respect.
22 Non rinnegare te stesso per riguardo agli altri, non essere timido quando rischi la rovina.	22 Show no favoritism to your own discredit; let no one intimidate you to your own downfall.
23 Non evitare la parola quando è necessaria, e non nascondere la tua sapienza,	23 Refrain not from speaking at the proper time, and hide not away your wisdom;
24 perché nella parola si riconosce la sapienza e l'istruzione nel detto della lingua.	24 For it is through speech that wisdom becomes known, and knowledge through the tongue's rejoinder.
25 Non contrastare la verità, ma vergognati della tua ignoranza.	25 Never gainsay the truth, and struggle not against the rushing stream.
26 Non vergognarti per ammettere i tuoi peccati e non opporti alla corrente del fiume.	26 Be not ashamed to acknowledge your guilt, but of your ignorance rather be ashamed.
27 Non sottometterti allo stolto e non aver soggezione del potente.	27 Do not abase yourself before an impious man, nor refuse to do so before rulers.
28 Lotta per la verità sino alla morte e il Signore Dio combatterà al tuo fianco.	28 Even to the death fight for truth, and the LORD your God will battle for you.
29 Non essere temerario con la lingua e poi pigro e inerte nelle opere.	29 Be not surly in your speech, nor lazy and slack in your deeds.
30 Non essere come un leone nella tua casa e non fare l'eroe davanti ai tuoi servi.	30 Be not a lion at home, nor sly and suspicious at work.
31 Non sia la tua mano tesa per prendere e chiusa nel rendere.	31 Let not your hand be open to receive and clenched when it is time to give.
