LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Dio disse a Giacobbe: "Lèvati, sali a Betel e ivi risiedi: fa' colà un altare al Dio che ti è apparso quando fuggivi dalla presenza di Esaù, tuo fratello".	1 In the meantime God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother.
2 Allora Giacobbe disse alla sua famiglia e a tutti quelli ch'erano con lui: "Togliete di mezzo gli dèi stranieri che stanno fra voi, purificatevi e cambiate le vostre vesti.	2 And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments.
3 Poi leviamoci e saliamo a Betel, dove io voglio fare un altare al Dio che mi ha esaudito al tempo della mia angoscia ed è stato con me nel viaggio che ho fatto".	3 Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, that we may make there an altar to God: who heard me in the day of my affliction, and accompanied me in my journey.
4 Essi consegnarono a Giacobbe tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano e i pendenti che avevano agli orecchi e Giacobbe li sotterrò sotto la quercia che è presso Sichem.	4 So they gave him all the strange gods they had, and the earrings which were in their ears: and he buried them under the turpentine tree, that is behind the city of Sichem.
5 Poi levarono l'accampamento e un terrore molto forte assalì le città che stavano attorno a loro, così che non inseguirono i figli di Giacobbe.	5 And when they were departed, the terror of God fell upon all the cities round about, and they durst not pursue after them as they went away.
6 Così Giacobbe giunse a Luz, cioè a Betel, che è nella terra di Canaan, con tutto il popolo che era con lui.	6 And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, surnamed Bethel: he and all the people that were with him.
7 Ivi egli costruì un altare e chiamò quel luogo El-Betel, perché là Dio si era rivelato a lui quando fuggiva dalla presenza di suo fratello.	7 And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.
8 Allora morì Debora, la nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al di sotto di Betel, ai piedi della quercia, che perciò fu chiamata "Quercia del pianto".	8 At the same time Debora the nurse of Rebecca died, and was buried at the foot of Bethel under an oak: and the name of that place was called, The oak of weeping.
9 Un'altra volta Dio apparve a Giacobbe quando veniva da Paddan-Aram, e lo benedisse.	9 And God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him,
10 Dio gli disse: "Il tuo nome è Giacobbe; non sarai più chiamato Giacobbe, bensì Israele sarà il nome tuo". Così lo si chiamò Israele.	10 Saying: Thou shalt not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And he called him Israel.
11 E Dio gli disse: "Io sono Dio onnipotente: sii fecondo e moltiplicati: una nazione, anzi un'accolta di nazioni procederà da te, e dei re usciranno dai tuoi fianchi.	11 And said to him: I am God Almighty, increase thou and be multiplied. Nations and peoples of nations shall be from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.
12 E darò a te la terra che ho dato ad Abramo e a Isacco; e alla tua discendenza dopo di te io darò quella terra".	12 And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee.
13 Poi Dio risalì allontanandosi da lui, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato.	13 And he departed from him.
14 Allora Giacobbe eresse una stele sacra, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato, una stele di pietra, sulla quale fece una libagione, versando olio sopra di essa.	14 But he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him: pouring drink offerings upon it, and pouring oil thereon:
15 Giacobbe chiamò quel luogo, dove Dio gli aveva parlato, Betel.	15 And calling the name of that place Bethel.
16 Poi levarono l'accampamento da Betel. Quando mancava ancora un tratto di cammino per arrivare ad Efrata, Rachele partorì, ed ebbe un parto difficile.	16 And going forth from thence, he came in the springtime to the land which leadeth to Ephrata: wherein when Rachel was in travail,
17 Mentre soffriva per la difficoltà del parto, la levatrice le disse: "Non temere: anche questa volta hai un figlio!".	17 By reason of her hard labor she began to be in danger, and the midwife said to her: Fear not, for thou shalt have this son also.
18 Or mentre le sfuggiva l'anima, perché stava morendo, ella lo chiamò Ben-Oni, ma suo padre lo chiamò Beniamino.	18 And when her soul was departing for pain, and death was now at hand, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, The son of my pain: but his father called him Benjamin, that is, The son of the right hand.
19 Così morì Rachele e fu sepolta lungo la strada verso Efrata, cioè Betlemme.	19 So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata, that is Bethlehem.
20 Giacobbe eresse sulla sua sepoltura una stele. E' la stele della tomba di Rachele che esiste ancora oggi.	20 And Jacob erected a pillar over her sepulcher: this is the pillar of Rachel's monument, to this day.
21 Poi Israele levò l'accampamento e rizzò la sua tenda al di là di Migdal-Eder.	21 Departing thence, he pitched his tent beyond the Flock tower.
22 E avvenne che, mentre Israele abitava in quella regione, Ruben andò a giacere con Bila, concubina di suo padre, e Israele lo venne a sapere. I figli di Giacobbe furono dodici.	22 And when he dwelt in that country, Ruben went, and slept with Bala, the concubine of his father: which he was not ignorant of. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
23 I figli di Lia: Ruben il primogenito, poi Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issacar e Zabulon.	23 The sons of Lia: Ruben the firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Juda, and Issachar, and Zebulon.
24 I figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.	24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25 I figli di Bila, schiava di Rachele: Dan e Neftali.	25 The sons of Bala, Rachel's handmaid: Dan and Naphthali.
26 I figli di Zilpa, schiava di Lia: Gad e Aser. Questi sono i figli di Giacobbe che gli nacquero in Paddan-Aram.	26 The sons of Zelpha, Lia's handmaid: Gad and Aser: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.
27 Poi Giacobbe venne da Isacco, suo padre, a Mamre, a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, dove Abramo e Isacco avevano soggiornato.	27 And he came to Isaac his father in Mambre, the city of Arbee, this is Hebron: Wherein Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28 Isacco raggiunse l'età di centottant'anni.	28 And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
29 Poi Isacco spirò, morì e fu riunito al popolo suo, vecchio e sazio di giorni. Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Esaù e Giacobbe.	29 And being spent with age he died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
