| 1 - Manasse aveva dodici anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò cinquantacinque anni in Gerusalemme. | 1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. |
| 2 Egli fece il male al cospetto del Signore, seguendo le abominazioni delle genti, che il Signore aveva distrutto dinanzi ai figli d'Israele. | 2 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. |
| 3 Egli rifabbricò i luoghi eccelsi, che Ezechia suo padre aveva demolito, costrusse altari ai Baalim, piantò boschetti sacri e adorò tutta la milizia dei cieli e la venerò. | 3 For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had broken down, and erected altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them. |
| 4 Edificò anche altari nella casa del Signore, della quale il Signore aveva detto: «In Gerusalemme sarà eternamente il mio nome». | 4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever." |
| 5 E edificò questi altari a tutta la milizia del cielo nei due atrii della casa del Signore. | 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. |
| 6 Di più fece passare i suoi figli attraverso il fuoco nella Valle di Benennom; dava ascolto ai sogni, si atteneva agli auguri, era dedito alle arti magiche, aveva con sè maghi e incantatori, e fece molte opere perverse dinanzi al Signore per provocarlo a sdegno. | 6 And he burned his sons as an offering in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practiced soothsaying and augury and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger. |
| 7 Collocò altresì una statua in metallo fuso nella casa di Dio, della quale Iddio disse a Davide e a Salomone suo figlio: «In questa casa ed in Gerusalemme che mi scelsi fra tutte le tribù d'Israele porrò il mio nome in sempiterno, | 7 And the image of the idol which he had made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever; |
| 8 e non permetterò che Israele si allontani dalla terra, che ho data ai suoi padri, purchè si diano cura di osservare quanto ho loro comandato, tutta cioè la legge e le cerimonie e gli ammaestramenti dati per mezzo di Mosè». | 8 and I will no more remove the foot of Israel from the land which I appointed for your fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, all the law, the statutes, and the ordinances given through Moses." |
| 9 Manasse adunque sedusse Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme perchè si comportassero peggio di tutte le nazioni, che il Signore aveva distrutte davanti ai figli d'Israele. | 9 Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel. |
| 10 Il Signore parlò a lui e a tutto il suo popolo e non lo si volle ascoltare; | 10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed. |
| 11 fece venire contro di loro l'esercito del re degli Assiri; e Manasse fu preso e catturato, e legato con catene e con corde fu condotto a Babilonia. | 11 Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks and bound him with fetters of bronze and brought him to Babylon. |
| 12 Allorchè egli si trovò in tali angustie invocò il Signore Dio suo, e fatta grande penitenza dinanzi al Dio de' padri suoi, | 12 And when he was in distress he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. |
| 13 lo scongiurò e lo pregò con gran fervore. E Iddio esaudì la sua preghiera e lo ricondusse al suo regno in Gerusalemme, e conobbe Manasse che il Signore è veramente Dio. | 13 He prayed to him, and God received his entreaty and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God. |
| 14 Dopo ciò edificò il muro fuori della città di Davide a occidente di Gion nella valle, dall'entrata della porta dei pesci tutto attorno fino ad Ofel, e lo innalzò assai, e pose capi dell'esercito in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda. | 14 Afterwards he built an outer wall for the city of David west of Gihon, in the valley, and for the entrance into the Fish Gate, and carried it round Ophel, and raised it to a very great height; he also put commanders of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah. |
| 15 Levò pure gli dèi stranieri e il simulacro dalla casa del Signore, e gli altari, che aveva fatto sul monte della casa del Signore ed in Gerusalemme, e gettò tutto fuori della città. | 15 And he took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside of the city. |
| 16 Restaurò pure l'altare del Signore e immolò sovr'esso vittime e ostie pacifiche e di lode e comandò a Giuda che avesse a servire il Signore Dio d'Israele. | 16 He also restored the altar of the LORD and offered upon it sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving; and he commanded Judah to serve the LORD the God of Israel. |
| 17 Il popolo però sacrificava al Signore Dio suo sui luoghi eccelsi. | 17 Nevertheless the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God. |
| 18 Il rimanente delle gesta di Manasse e l'orazione da lui fatta al suo Dio, come pure le parole dei veggenti, che gli parlavano in nome del Signore Dio d'Israele, si contengono nei libri dei re d'Israele. | 18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD the God of Israel, behold, they are in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. |
| 19 Anche l'orazione da lui fatta ed esaudita, come pure tutti i peccati e il disprezzo e le località dove egli edificò gli alti luoghi e fece dei boschi ed eresse statue, prima di far penitenza, sono scritte nei libri di Ozai. | 19 And his prayer, and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and his faithlessness, and the sites on which he built high places and set up the Asherim and the images, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the Chronicles of the Seers. |
| 20 Manasse s'addormentò coi padri suoi e fu sepolto nella casa sua, e regnò in sua vece il figlio suo Amon. | 20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead. |
| 21 Amon aveva ventidue anni quando cominciò a regnare e regnò in Gerusalemme due anni, | 21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. |
| 22 facendo il male al cospetto del Signore, come aveva fatto Manasse suo padre, e immolando e prestando culto a tutti gli idoli, fabbricati da Manasse. | 22 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done. Amon sacrificed to all the images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them. |
| 23 Egli non ebbe timor del Signore, come l'ebbe Manasse suo padre e fece assai più male di lui. | 23 And he did not humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred guilt more and more. |
| 24 Avendo poi i suoi servi fatto una congiura contro di lui, lo uccisero nel suo palazzo; | 24 And his servants conspired against him and killed him in his house. |
| 25 la massa del popolo però, uccisi quelli che avevano assassinato Amon, costituì re il figlio di lui Josia. | 25 But the people of the land slew all those who had conspired against King Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead. |
