| 1 - Passarono adunque tre anni senza che vi fosse guerra tra la Siria ed Israele. | 1 For three years Syria and Israel continued without war. |
| 2 Al terzo anno però Josafat, re di Giuda, venne dal re d'Israele. | 2 But in the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. |
| 3 (Il re d'Israele disse ai suoi servi: «Non sapete voi che Ramot di Galaad è nostra e che abbiamo trascurato di toglierla dalle mani del re di Siria?»). | 3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, "Do you know that Ramoth-gilead belongs to us, and we keep quiet and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?" |
| 4 Disse perciò a Josafat: «Verresti con me a combattere in Ramot di Galaad?». | 4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?" And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses." |
| 5 Rispose Josafat al re d'Israele: «Quel che sono io, lo sei anche tu. Il mio popolo e il tuo popolo sono una cosa sola e i miei cavalieri sono i tuoi cavalieri». Poi Josafat disse al re d'Israele: «Consulta, te ne prego, oggi la parola del Signore». | 5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Inquire first for the word of the LORD." |
| 6 Il re d'Israele riunì i profeti, circa quattrocento, e disse loro: «Devo io andare in Ramot di Galaad a combattere o starmene quieto?». Essi risposero: «Va' e il Signore la darà nelle mani del re». | 6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I forbear?" And they said, "Go up; for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king." |
| 7 Disse allora Josafat: «Non havvi qui qualche profeta del Signore da interrogare?». | 7 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here another prophet of the LORD of whom we may inquire?" |
| 8 Disse il re di Israele a Josafat: «Ne è restato uno solo e per mezzo suo noi possiamo interrogare il Signore: ma io lo odio, perchè non mi annunzia mai nulla di buono, ma soltanto del male, Michea figliuolo di Jemla». Ma Josafat rispose così: «Non parlare a questo modo, o re». | 8 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but evil." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so." |
| 9 Chiamò adunque il re d'Israele un eunuco e gli disse: «Fa' venire subito Michea figlio di Jemla». | 9 Then the king of Israel summoned an officer and said, "Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah." |
| 10 Il re d'Israele e Josafat, re di Giuda, stavano seduti ciascuno sul suo trono, rivestiti dei loro abiti regali, nell'aia che è all'ingresso della porta di Samaria e tutti i profeti profetavano al loro cospetto. | 10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting on their thrones, arrayed in their robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them. |
| 11 Sedecia figliuolo di Canaana si era fatto fare dei corni di ferro, e diceva: «Così dice il Signore: - Con questi tu agiterai la Siria, sino a che non l'abbia distrutta -». | 11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for himself horns of iron, and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'With these you shall push the Syrians until they are destroyed.'" |
| 12 Similmente profetavano gli altri profeti, dicendo: «Ascendi a Ramot di Galaad e vattene sicuro. Il Signore la darà nelle mani del re». | 12 And all the prophets prophesied so, and said, "Go up to Ramoth-gilead and triumph; the LORD will give it into the hand of the king." |
| 13 Il messo che era andato a chiamare Michea, gli parlò così: «Ecco i profeti ad una voce predicono al re cose felici: anche la tua parola sia simile alla loro e annunzia del bene!». | 13 And the messenger who went to summon Micaiah said to him, "Behold, the words of the prophets with one accord are favorable to the king; let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably." |
| 14 Michea gli rispose: «Viva il Signore! qualsiasi cosa dirà a me il Signore, io dirò». | 14 But Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD says to me, that I will speak." |
| 15 Venuto dinanzi al re, questi gli disse: «Michea, dobbiamo noi andare a Ramot di Galaad a combattere o dobbiamo restare?». Michea gli rispose: «Ascendi e vai pure liberamente e il Signore la darà nella mani del re». | 15 And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?" And he answered him, "Go up and triumph; the LORD will give it into the hand of the king." |
| 16 E il re gli disse: «Ti scongiuro una volta e due volte di dirmi soltanto ciò che è vero nel nome del Signore». | 16 But the king said to him, "How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?" |
| 17 Michea allora soggiunse: «Vidi tutto Israele disperso sulle montagne, come pecore senza pastore, e il Signore ha detto: - Costoro non hanno più padrone, ritorni ciascuno in pace alla sua casa -». | 17 And he said, "I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd; and the LORD said, 'These have no master; let each return to his home in peace.'" |
| 18 (Disse allora il re d'Israele a Josafat: «Non ti ho io detto che costui non mi preannunzia mai nulla di bene, ma sempre del male?»). | 18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?" |
| 19 Ma Michea soggiunse: «Ascolta dunque la parola del Signore: Vidi il Signore sedere sopra il suo trono e tutta l'armata dei cieli stare presso di lui, chi a destra e chi a sinistra; | 19 And Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing beside him on his right hand and on his left; |
| 20 e disse il Signore: - Chi trarrà in inganno Acab, re d'Israele, per farlo salire e farlo cadere in Ramot di Galaad? - E uno disse una cosa, e l'altro un'altra. | 20 and the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said one thing, and another said another. |
| 21 Si fece allora innanzi uno spirito e, messosi al cospetto del Signore, disse: - Io lo trarrò in inganno. - E il Signore gli domandò: - Con qual mezzo? - | 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, saying, 'I will entice him.' |
| 22 Ed egli rispose: - Uscirò e sarò spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i profeti di lui. - Ed il Signore disse: - Tu lo trarrai in inganno e otterrai l'intento; vai pure, e fa' così. - | 22 And the LORD said to him, 'By what means?' And he said, 'I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he said, 'You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go forth and do so.' |
| 23 Ora adunque il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i profeti, che sono qui, e il Signore ha annunziato sciagure contro di te». | 23 Now therefore behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; the LORD has spoken evil concerning you." |
| 24 Allora Sedecia figlio di Canaana si accostò e diede uno schiaffo a Michea e disse: «Dunque lo spirito del Signore ha lasciato me per parlare a te solo?». | 24 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "How did the Spirit of the LORD go from me to speak to you?" |
| 25 Disse Michea: «Tu lo vedrai nel giorno in cui entrerai da una camera all'altra per nasconderti». | 25 And Micaiah said, "Behold, you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide yourself." |
| 26 Disse allora il re d'Israele: «Prendete Michea e resti presso Amon prefetto della città e presso Joas figlio di Amelec | 26 And the king of Israel said, "Seize Micaiah, and take him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king's son; |
| 27 e dite loro: - Questo è volere del re: Cacciate costui in prigione e mantenetelo col pane della tribolazione e coll'acqua della tristezza, finchè io non sia ritornato in pace -». | 27 and say, 'Thus says the king, "Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with scant fare of bread and water, until I come in peace."'" |
| 28 Ma Michea soggiunse: «Se tu tornerai in pace, il Signore non avrà parlato per mia bocca», poi soggiunse: «Udite, o popoli tutti». | 28 And Micaiah said, "If you return in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me." And he said, "Hear, all you peoples!" |
| 29 Ascese pertanto il re d'Israele e Josafat re di Giuda in Ramot di Galaad. | 29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead. |
| 30 Il re d'Israele disse a Josafat: «Mettiti l'armatura ed entra nel combattimento e indossa le tue vesti». Invece il re d'Israele si travestì ed entrò nella mischia. | 30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your robes." And the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle. |
| 31 Il re di Siria aveva comandato ai trentadue capi dei carri, dicendo: «Voi non combatterete contro alcuno nè piccolo nè grande, ma contro il solo re d'Israele». | 31 Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, "Fight with neither small nor great, but only with the king of Israel." |
| 32 Avendo dunque i principi visto il carro di Josafat, credettero che egli fosse il re d'Israele e lo assalirono con grande impeto, ma Josafat alzò la voce | 32 And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is surely the king of Israel." So they turned to fight against him; and Jehoshaphat cried out. |
| 33 e i principi dei carri intesero che non era il re d'Israele e lo lasciarono. | 33 And when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him. |
| 34 Ma un certo tale tirò a caso col suo arco una saetta ed essa venne a colpire il re d'Israele tra il polmone e lo stomaco. Allora il re disse al suo auriga: «Volta la mano, e conducimi fuori del campo di battaglia, poichè sono ferito gravemente». | 34 But a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and struck the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate; therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn about, and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded." |
| 35 La battaglia durò tutto quel giorno e il re d'Israele, che se ne stava nel suo carro contro i Siri, morì verso sera. Il sangue della ferita scorreva sopra il carro; | 35 And the battle grew hot that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, until at evening he died; and the blood of the wound flowed into the bottom of the chariot. |
| 36 e prima che il sole tramontasse l'araldo sonò [la tromba] in mezzo a tutto l'esercito, dicendo: «Ciascuno ritorni alla sua città e al suo paese». | 36 And about sunset a cry went through the army, "Every man to his city, and every man to his country!" |
| 37 Morì adunque il re e venne portato in Samaria e fu sepolto in Samaria | 37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. |
| 38 e lavarono il suo carro nella piscina di Samaria, e i cani leccarono il sangue di lui e lavarono le briglie secondo la parola che aveva detto il Signore. | 38 And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and the harlots washed themselves in it, according to the word of the LORD which he had spoken. |
| 39 Il resto della azioni di Acab e tutto ciò che fece e la casa d'avorio che costruì e tutte le città che edificò, non sono forse scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele? | 39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? |
| 40 Acab dormì adunque co' suoi padri e gli successe nel regno Ocozia suo figliuolo. | 40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. |
| 41 Josafat figlio di Asa regnò sopra Giuda il quarto anno di Acab re d'Israele. | 41 Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. |
| 42 Josafat aveva trentacinque anni quando divenne re, e regnò venticinque anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Azuba figlia di Salai. | 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. |
| 43 Camminò nella via di Asa suo padre e non se ne allontanò mai, facendo ciò che era giusto al cospetto del Signore: | 43 He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the LORD; yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. |
| 44 tuttavia non tolse le alture e il popolo continuava a sacrificare e a bruciare incenso sulle alture. | 44 Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel. |
| 45 Egli fu in pace col re d'Israele. | 45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? |
