But you are to speak the things that befit sound doctrine.1 Tu autem loquere, quae decentsanam doctrinam.
Old men should be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience.2 Senes, ut sobrii sint, pudici, prudentes, sani fide, dilectione, patientia.
Old women, similarly, should be in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well,3 Anus similiter in habitu sanctae, non criminatrices, non vino multo deditae,bene docentes,
so that they may teach prudence to the young women, so that they may love their husbands, love their children,4 ut prudentiam doceant adulescentulas, ut viros suos ament,filios diligant,
be sensible, chaste, restrained, have concern for the household, be kind, be subordinate to their husbands: so that the Word of God may be not blasphemed.5 prudentes sint, castae, domus curam habentes, benignae,subditae suis viris, ut non blasphemetur verbum Dei.
Exhort young men similarly, so that they may show self-restraint.6 Iuvenes similiter hortare, ut sobrii sint.
In all things, present yourself as an example of good works: in doctrine, with integrity, with seriousness,7 In omnibus teipsum praebensexemplum bonorum operum, in doctrina integritatem, gravitatem,
with sound words, irreproachably, so that he who is an opponent may dread that he has nothing evil to say about us.8 in verbo sanoirreprehensibilem, ut is, qui ex adverso est, vereatur, nihil habens malumdicere de nobis.
Exhort servants to be submissive to their masters, in all things pleasing, not contradicting,9 Servos dominis suis subditos esse in omnibus, placentes esse, noncontradicentes,
not cheating, but in all things showing good fidelity, so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.10 non fraudantes, sed omnem fidem bonam ostendentes, utdoctrinam salutaris nostri Dei ornent in omnibus.
For the grace of God our Savior has appeared to all men,11 Apparuit enim gratia Dei salutaris omnibus hominibus
instructing us to reject impiety and worldly desires, so that we may live soberly and justly and piously in this age,12 erudiens nos, utabnegantes impietatem et saecularia desideria sobrie et iuste et pie vivamus inhoc saeculo,
looking forward to the blessed hope and the advent of the glory of the great God and of our Savior Jesus Christ.13 exspectantes beatam spem et adventum gloriae magni Dei etsalvatoris nostri Iesu Christi;
He gave himself for our sake, so that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and might cleanse for himself an acceptable people, pursuers of good works.14 qui dedit semetipsum pro nobis, ut nosredimeret ab omni iniquitate et mundaret sibi populum peculiarem, sectatorembonorum operum.
Speak and exhort and argue these things with all authority. Let no one despise you.15 Haec loquere et exhortare et argue cum omni imperio. Nemo te contemnat!
