1 And it happened that, on one of the days when he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Gospel, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, gathered together with the elders,	1 Un giorno, mentre istruiva il popolo nel tempio e annunciava il Vangelo, sopraggiunsero i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi con gli anziani
2 and they spoke to him, saying: “Tell us, by what authority do you do these things? Or, who is it that has given you this authority?”	2 e si rivolsero a lui dicendo: «Spiegaci con quale autorità fai queste cose o chi è che ti ha dato questa autorità».
3 And in response, Jesus said to them: “I will also question you about one word. Respond to me:	3 E Gesù rispose loro: «Anch’io vi farò una domanda. Ditemi:
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?”	4 il battesimo di Giovanni veniva dal cielo o dagli uomini?».
5 So they discussed it among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’	5 Allora essi ragionavano fra loro dicendo: «Se diciamo: “Dal cielo”, risponderà: “Perché non gli avete creduto?”.
6 But if we say, ‘Of men,’ the whole people will stone us. For they are certain that John was a prophet.”	6 Se invece diciamo: “Dagli uomini”, tutto il popolo ci lapiderà, perché è convinto che Giovanni sia un profeta».
7 And so they responded that they did not know where it was from.	7 Risposero quindi di non saperlo.
8 And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”	8 E Gesù disse loro: «Neanch’io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose».
9 Then he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, and he loaned it to settlers, and he was on a sojourn for a long time.	9 Poi prese a dire al popolo questa parabola: «Un uomo piantò una vigna, la diede in affitto a dei contadini e se ne andò lontano per molto tempo.
10 And in due time, he sent a servant to the farmers, so that they would give to him from the fruit of the vineyard. And they beat him and drove him away, empty-handed.	10 Al momento opportuno, mandò un servo dai contadini perché gli dessero la sua parte del raccolto della vigna. Ma i contadini lo bastonarono e lo mandarono via a mani vuote.
11 And he continued to send another servant. But beating him and treating him with contempt, they likewise sent him away, empty-handed.	11 Mandò un altro servo, ma essi bastonarono anche questo, lo insultarono e lo mandarono via a mani vuote.
12 And he continued to send a third. And wounding him also, they drove him away.	12 Ne mandò ancora un terzo, ma anche questo lo ferirono e lo cacciarono via.
13 Then the lord of the vineyard said: ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps when they have seen him, they will respect him.’	13 Disse allora il padrone della vigna: “Che cosa devo fare? Manderò mio figlio, l’amato, forse avranno rispetto per lui!”.
14 And when the settlers had seen him, they discussed it among themselves, saying: ‘This one is the heir. Let us kill him, so that the inheritance will be ours.’	14 Ma i contadini, appena lo videro, fecero tra loro questo ragionamento: “Costui è l’erede. Uccidiamolo e così l’eredità sarà nostra!”.
15 And forcing him outside of the vineyard, they killed him. What, then, will the lord of the vineyard do to them?”	15 Lo cacciarono fuori della vigna e lo uccisero. Che cosa farà dunque a costoro il padrone della vigna?
16 “He will come and destroy those settlers, and he will give the vineyard to others.” And upon hearing this, they said to him, “Let it not be.”	16 Verrà, farà morire quei contadini e darà la vigna ad altri». Udito questo, dissero: «Non sia mai!».
17 Then, gazing at them, he said: “Then what does this mean, which is written: ‘The stone which the builders have rejected, the same has become the head of the corner?’	17 Allora egli fissò lo sguardo su di loro e disse: «Che cosa significa dunque questa parola della Scrittura: La pietra che i costruttori hanno scartato è diventata la pietra d’angolo?
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be shattered. And anyone upon whom it falls will be crushed.”	18 Chiunque cadrà su quella pietra si sfracellerà e colui sul quale essa cadrà verrà stritolato».
19 And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, were seeking to lay hands on him in that same hour, but they feared the people. For they realized that he had spoken this parable about them.	19 In quel momento gli scribi e i capi dei sacerdoti cercarono di mettergli le mani addosso, ma ebbero paura del popolo. Avevano capito infatti che quella parabola l’aveva detta per loro.
20 And being attentive, they sent traitors, who would pretend that they were just, so that they might catch him in his words and then hand him over to the power and authority of the procurator.	20 Si misero a spiarlo e mandarono informatori, che si fingessero persone giuste, per coglierlo in fallo nel parlare e poi consegnarlo all’autorità e al potere del governatore.
21 And they questioned him, saying: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and that you do not consider anyone’s status, but you teach the way of God in truth.	21 Costoro lo interrogarono: «Maestro, sappiamo che parli e insegni con rettitudine e non guardi in faccia a nessuno, ma insegni qual è la via di Dio secondo verità.
22 Is it lawful for us to pay the tribute to Caesar, or not?”	22 È lecito, o no, che noi paghiamo la tassa a Cesare?».
23 But realizing their deceitfulness, he said to them: “Why do you test me?	23 Rendendosi conto della loro malizia, disse:
24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” In response, they said to him, “Caesar’s.”	24 «Mostratemi un denaro: di chi porta l’immagine e l’iscrizione?». Risposero: «Di Cesare».
25 And so, he said to them: “Then repay the things that are Caesar’s, to Caesar, and the things that are God’s, to God.”	25 Ed egli disse: «Rendete dunque quello che è di Cesare a Cesare e quello che è di Dio a Dio».
26 And they were not able to contradict his word before the people. And being amazed at his answer, they were silent.	26 Così non riuscirono a coglierlo in fallo nelle sue parole di fronte al popolo e, meravigliati della sua risposta, tacquero.
27 Now some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,	27 Gli si avvicinarono alcuni sadducei – i quali dicono che non c’è risurrezione – e gli posero questa domanda:
28 saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote for us: If any man’s brother will have died, having a wife, and if he does not have any children, then his brother should take her as his wife, and he should raise up offspring for his brother.	28 «Maestro, Mosè ci ha prescritto: Se muore il fratello di qualcuno che ha moglie, ma è senza figli, suo fratello prenda la moglie e dia una discendenza al proprio fratello.
29 And so there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and he died without sons.	29 C’erano dunque sette fratelli: il primo, dopo aver preso moglie, morì senza figli.
30 And the next one married her, and he also died without a son.	30 Allora la prese il secondo
31 And the third married her, and similarly all seven, and none of them left behind any offspring, and they each died.	31 e poi il terzo e così tutti e sette morirono senza lasciare figli.
32 Last of all, the woman also died.	32 Da ultimo morì anche la donna.
33 In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For certainly all seven had her as a wife.”	33 La donna dunque, alla risurrezione, di chi sarà moglie? Poiché tutti e sette l’hanno avuta in moglie».
34 And so, Jesus said to them: “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.	34 Gesù rispose loro: «I figli di questo mondo prendono moglie e prendono marito;
35 Yet truly, those who shall be held worthy of that age, and of the resurrection from the dead, will neither be married, nor take wives.	35 ma quelli che sono giudicati degni della vita futura e della risurrezione dai morti, non prendono né moglie né marito:
36 For they can no longer die. For they are equal to the Angels, and they are children of God, since they are children of the resurrection.	36 infatti non possono più morire, perché sono uguali agli angeli e, poiché sono figli della risurrezione, sono figli di Dio.
37 For in truth, the dead do rise again, as Moses also showed beside the bush, when he called the Lord: ‘The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’	37 Che poi i morti risorgano, lo ha indicato anche Mosè a proposito del roveto, quando dice: Il Signore è il Dio di Abramo, Dio di Isacco e Dio di Giacobbe.
38 And so he is not the God of the dead, but of the living. For all are alive to him.”	38 Dio non è dei morti, ma dei viventi; perché tutti vivono per lui».
39 Then some of the scribes, in response, said to him, “Teacher, you have spoken well.”	39 Dissero allora alcuni scribi: «Maestro, hai parlato bene».
40 And they no longer dared to question him about anything.	40 E non osavano più rivolgergli alcuna domanda.
41 But he said to them: “How can they say that the Christ is the son of David?	41 Allora egli disse loro: «Come mai si dice che il Cristo è figlio di Davide,
42 Even David himself says, in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand,	42 se Davide stesso nel libro dei Salmi dice: Disse il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra
43 until I set your enemies as your footstool.’	43 finché io ponga i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi?
44 Therefore, David calls him Lord. So how can he be his son?”	44 Davide dunque lo chiama Signore; perciò, come può essere suo figlio?».
45 Now in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples:	45 Mentre tutto il popolo ascoltava, disse ai suoi discepoli:
46 “Be cautious of the scribes, who choose to walk in long robes, and who love greetings in the marketplace, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the first places at table during feasts,	46 «Guardatevi dagli scribi, che vogliono passeggiare in lunghe vesti e si compiacciono di essere salutati nelle piazze, di avere i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e i primi posti nei banchetti;
47 who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayers. These will receive the greater damnation.”	47 divorano le case delle vedove e pregano a lungo per farsi vedere. Essi riceveranno una condanna più severa».
