Isaiah 1

1 The vision of Isaiah, the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Joatham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.	1 Visão de Isaías, filho de Amós, a qual ele teve acerca de Judá e de Jerusalém, nos dias de Ozias, de Joatan, de Acaz e de Ezequias, reis de Judá.
2 Listen, O heavens, and pay attention, O earth, for the Lord has spoken. I have nurtured and raised children, but they have spurned me.	2 Ouvi, céus, e tu, ó terra, escuta, porque é o Senhor que fala. Criei filhos (diz ele) e engrandeci-os, porém eles revoltaram-se contra mim.
3 An ox knows his owner, and a donkey knows the manger of his lord, but Israel has not known me, and my people have not understood.	3 O boi conhece o seu possuidor, e o jumento o presépio do seu dono, mas Israel não conhece nada, o meu povo não tem inteligência.
4 Woe to a sinful nation, a people burdened by iniquity, a wicked offspring, accursed children. They have abandoned the Lord. They have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel. They been taken away backwards.	4 Ai da nação pecadora, do povo carregado de iniquidades, da raça maligna, dos filhos malvados! Abandonaram o Senhor, blasfemaram o Santo de Israel, voltaram-lhe as costas.
5 For what reason shall I continue to strike you, as you increase transgressions? The entire head is feeble, and the entire heart is grieving.	5 De que servirá que eu vos fira de novo, se vós (obstinados) acumulais prevaricações sobre prevaricações? Toda a cabeça está enferma, todo o coração abatido.
6 From the sole of the foot, even to the top of the head, there is no soundness within. Wounds and bruises and swelling sores: these are not bandaged, nor treated with medicine, nor soothed with oil.	6 Desde a planta do pé até ao alto da cabeça, não há nele nada são: tudo são feridas, contusões, chagas vivas, que não estão ligadas, que não estão pensadas, nem suavizadas com óleo.
7 Your land is desolate. Your cities have been set ablaze. Foreigners devour your countryside in your sight, and it will become desolate, as if devastated by enemies.	7 A vossa terra está deserta, as vossas cidades abrasadas pelo fogo; os estranhos devoram à vossa vista o vosso país, e ele é devastado como numa assolação de inimigos.
8 And the daughter of Zion will be left behind, like an arbor in a vineyard, and like a shelter in a cucumber field, and like a city being laid to waste.	8 A filha de Sião (ou Jerusalém) fica desamparada como cabana numa vinha, como choça num pepinal, como uma cidade entregue à pilhagem.
9 If the Lord of hosts had not bequeathed us offspring, we would have been like Sodom, and we would have been comparable to Gomorrah.	9 Se o Senhor dos exércitos nos não tivesse conservado alguns da nossa linhagem, teríamos sido como Sodoma, ter-nos-íamos tornado semelhantes a Gomorra.
10 Listen to the Word of the Lord, you leaders of the people of Sodom. Listen closely to the law of our God, O people of Gomorrah.	10 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, ó príncipes (que imitais os reis) de Sodoma, escuta a lei do nosso Deus, ó povo (semelhante ao) de Gomorra.
11 The multitude of your sacrifices, what is that to me, says the Lord? I am full. I do not desire holocausts of rams, nor the fat of fatlings, nor the blood of calves and of lambs and of he-goats.	11 De que me serve a mim a multidão das vossas vítimas? — diz o Senhor. Já estou farto de holocaustos de carneiros, de gordura de bezerros; não me comprazo no sangue dos touros, dos cordeiros e dos bodes.
12 When you approach before my sight, who is it that requires these things from your hands, so that you would walk in my courts?	12 Quando vínheis à minha presença, quem vos pediu que andásseis a passear nos meus átrios (tão ufanos)?
13 You should no longer offer sacrifice vain. Incense is an abomination to me. The new moons and the Sabbaths and the other feast days, I will not receive. Your gatherings are iniquitous.	13 Não me tragais mais vãs oferendas; o incenso é para mim abominação; as (celebrações por ocasião das) neoménias, os sábados e as outras festividades, não as posso já sofrer; não posso suportar as assembleias solenes com o crime.
14 My soul hates your days of proclamation and your solemnities. They have become bothersome to me. I labor to endure them.	14 A minha alma aborrece as vossas neoménias e as vossas solenidades; tornaram-se-me molestas, estou cansado de as suportar.
15 And so, when you extend your hands, I will avert my eyes from you. And when you multiply your prayers, I will not heed you. For your hands are full of blood.	15 Quando estendeis as vossas mãos, aparto de vós os meus olhos; quando multiplicais as vossas orações não as atendo, porque as vossas mãos estão cheias de sangue.
16 Wash, become clean, take away the evil of your intentions from my eyes. Cease to act perversely.	16 Lavai-vos, purificai-vos, tirai de diante dos meus olhos a malícia das vossas ações; cessai de fazer o mal,
17 Learn to do good. Seek judgment, support the oppressed, judge for the orphan, defend the widow.	17 aprendei a fazer o bem, procurai o que é justo, socorrei o oprimido, fazei justiça ao órfão, defendei a viúva.
18 And then approach and accuse me, says the Lord. Then, if your sins are like scarlet, they shall be made white like snow; and if they are red like vermillion, they shall become white like wool.	18 Vinde, expliquemo-nos, diz o Senhor: se os vossos pecados forem como o escarlate, eles se tornarão brancos como a neve: se forem vermelhos como a púrpura, ficarão brancos como a (mais) branca lã.
19 If you are willing, and you listen to me, then you will eat the good things of the land.	19 Se quiserdes, se fordes dóceis, comereis os bens da terra.
20 But if you are not willing, and you provoke me to anger, then the sword will devour you. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.	20 Mas se não quiserdes e me provocardes à ira, devorai-vos-á a espada, porque foi a boca do Senhor que falou.
21 How has the faithful city, full of judgment, become a harlot? Justice lived in her, but now murderers.	21 Como se tornou uma prostituta a cidade fiel, cheia de retidão? Outrora habitou nela a justiça, mas agora habitam os homicidas.
22 Your silver has turned into dross. Your wine has been mixed with water.	22 A tua prata converteu-se era escória; o teu vinho misturou-se com água.
23 Your leaders are unfaithful, the associates of thieves. They all love gifts; they pursue rewards. They do not judge for orphans, and the widow’s case is not brought before them.	23 Os teus príncipes são rebeldes, companheiros de ladrões; todos eles amam as dádivas, andam atrás das recompensas. Não fazem justiça ao órfão, e a causa da viúva não tem acesso a eles.
24 Because of this, the Lord God of hosts, the Strength of Israel, says: Ah! I will be consoled over my enemies, and I will be vindicated from my adversaries.	24 Por este motivo, diz o Senhor Deus rei dos exércitos, o Forte de Israel: Ah! Tirarei satisfação dos meus adversários, vingar-me-ei dos meus inimigos!
25 And I will turn my hand to you. And I will temper your dross unto purity, and I will take away all your tin.	25 Voltarei a minha mão sobre t,. purificar-te-ei no crisol, separarei de ti todo o chumbo.
26 And I will restore your judges, so that they will be as before, and your counselors as in times long past. After this, you shall be called the City of the Just, the Faithful City.	26 Restabelecerei os teus juízes (fazendo com que eles sejam) como eram dantes, e os teus conselheiros como antigamente; depois disto, serás chamada a cidade da justiça, a cidade fiel.
27 Zion will be redeemed in judgment, and they will lead her back to justice.	27 Sião será resgatada pela retidão, e os seus convertidos pela justiça.
28 And he shall crush the accursed and sinners together. And those who have abandoned the Lord will be consumed.	28 Os malvados e os pecadores serão despedaçados, todos juntos e os que abandonam o Senhor serão consumidos.
29 For they shall be confounded because of the idols, to which they have sacrificed. And you shall be ashamed over the gardens that you chose,	29 Tereis vergonha dos terebintos que amastes envergonhar-vos-eis dos jardins que tínheis escolhido.
30 when you were like an oak with falling leaves, and like a garden without water.	30 Sereis como um terebinto, ao qual caem as folhas, como um jardim sem água.
31 And your strength will be like the embers from stubble, and your work will be like a spark, and both will burn together, and there will be no one to extinguish it.	31 O homem forte será como estopa, e a sua obra como faúlha; ambas se consumirão ao mesmo tempo, e não haverá quem as apague.
