CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
Wisdom has built a house for herself. She has hewn seven columns.1 La Sabiduría edificó su casa, talló sus siete columnas,
She has immolated her victims. She has mixed her wine and set forth her table.2 inmoló sus víctimas, mezcló su vino, y también preparó su mesa.
She has sent her maids to call out to the tower and to the fortified walls of the city,3 Ella envió a sus servidoras a proclamar sobre los sitios más altos de la ciudad:
“If anyone is little, let him come to me.” And to the unwise, she has said:4 «El que sea incauto, que venga aquí». Y al falto de entendimiento, le dice:
“Approach. Eat my bread, and drink the wine that I have mixed for you.5 «Vengan, coman de mi pan, y beban del vino que yo mezclé.
Leave behind childishness. And live and walk by the ways of prudence.”6 Abandonen la ingenuidad, y vivirán, y sigan derecho por el camino de la inteligencia».
Whoever teaches a mocker causes injury to himself. And whoever argues with the impious produces a blemish on himself.7 El que corrige a un insolente se atrae la ignominia, y el que reprende a un malvado, el deshonor,
Do not be willing to argue with a mocker, lest he hate you. Dispute with the wise, and he will love you.8 No reprendas a un insolente, no sea que te odie; reprende a un sabio, y te amará,
Present an opportunity to the wise, and wisdom shall be added to him. Teach the just, and he will hurry to receive it.9 Da al sabio y se hará más sabio aún, instruye al justo y ganará en saber.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of holiness is prudence.10 El comienzo de la sabiduría es el temor del Señor, y la ciencia del Santo es la inteligencia.
For by me, your days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to you.11 Porque tus días se multiplicarán gracias a mí y se añadirán años a tu vida.
If you would be wise, you will be so for yourself. But if you would be one who ridicules, you alone shall carry the evil.12 Si eres sabio, lo eres para ti, si eres insolente, tú solo lo sufrirás.
A foolish and loud woman, who is full of enticements and who knows nothing at all,13 La señora Necedad es turbulenta, es estúpida y no sabe nada.
sat at the entrance of her house on a seat, in a high place of the city,14 Ella se sienta a la puerta de su casa, en una silla, sobre las alturas de la ciudad,
so as to call to those who were passing by the way and continuing on their journey:15 para gritar a los transeúntes que van derecho por el camino:
“Whoever is little, let him turn aside to me.” And to the frenzied, she said,16 «El que sea incauto, que venga aquí». Y al falto de entendimiento, le dice:
“Stolen waters are more soothing, and secret bread is more pleasant.”17 «¡Las aguas robadas son dulces y el pan quitado a escondidas, delicioso!».
And he did not know that giants are there, and that her companions are in the depths of Hell.18 Pero él no sabe que allí están las Sombras, y sus invitados, en las profundidades del Abismo.
