Exodus 20

1 And the Lord spoke all these words:	1 Dieu prononça toutes ces paroles, et dit:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, out of the house of servitude.	2 "Je suis Yahvé, ton Dieu, qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
3 You shall not have strange gods before me.	3 Tu n'auras pas d'autres dieux devant moi.
4 You shall not make for yourself a graven image, nor a likeness of anything that is in heaven above or on earth below, nor of those things which are in the waters under the earth.	4 Tu ne te feras aucune image sculptée, rien qui ressemble à ce qui est dans les cieux, là-haut, ou surla terre, ici-bas, ou dans les eaux, au-dessous de la terre.
5 You shall not adore them, nor shall you worship them. I am the Lord your God: strong, zealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,	5 Tu ne te prosterneras pas devant ces dieux et tu ne les serviras pas, car moi Yahvé, ton Dieu, je suisun Dieu jaloux qui punis la faute des pères sur les enfants, les petits-enfants et les arrière-petits-enfants pourceux qui me haïssent,
6 and showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my precepts.	6 mais qui fais grâce à des milliers pour ceux qui m'aiment et gardent mes commandements.
7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will not hold harmless one who takes the name of the Lord his God falsely.	7 Tu ne prononceras pas le nom de Yahvé ton Dieu à faux, car Yahvé ne laisse pas impuni celui quiprononce son nom à faux.
8 Remember that you are to sanctify the day of the Sabbath.	8 Tu te souviendras du jour du sabbat pour le sanctifier.
9 For six days, you will work and accomplish all your tasks.	9 Pendant six jours tu travailleras et tu feras tout ton ouvrage;
10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work in it: you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, your beast and the newcomer who is within your gates.	10 mais le septième jour est un sabbat pour Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, toi, ni tonfils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni tes bêtes, ni l'étranger qui est dans tes portes.
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all the things that are in them, and so he rested on the seventh day. For this reason, the Lord has blessed the day of the Sabbath and sanctified it.	11 Car en six jours Yahvé a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu'ils contiennent, mais il s'est reposéle septième jour, c'est pourquoi Yahvé a béni le jour du sabbat et l'a consacré.
12 Honor your father and your mother, so that you may have a long life upon the land, which the Lord your God will give to you.	12 Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que se prolongent tes jours sur la terre que te donne Yahvé tonDieu.
13 You shall not murder.	13 Tu ne tueras pas.
14 You shall not commit adultery.	14 Tu ne commettras pas d'adultère.
15 You shall not steal.	15 Tu ne voleras pas.
16 You shall not speak false testimony against your neighbor.	16 Tu ne porteras pas de témoignage mensonger contre ton prochain.
17 You shall not covet the house of your neighbor; neither shall you desire his wife, nor male servant, nor female servant, nor ox, nor donkey, nor anything that is his.”	17 Tu ne convoiteras pas la maison de ton prochain. Tu ne convoiteras pas la femme de ton prochain,ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son boeuf, ni son âne, rien de ce qui est à ton prochain."
18 Then all the people considered the voices, and the lights, and the sound of the trumpet, and the smoking mountain. And being terrified and struck with fear, they stood at a distance,	18 Tout le peuple voyant ces coups de tonnerre, ces lueurs, ce son de trompe et la montagne fumante,eut peur et se tint à distance.
19 saying to Moses: “Speak to us, and we will listen. Let not the Lord speak to us, lest perhaps we may die.”	19 Ils dirent à Moïse: "Parle-nous, toi, et nous t'écouterons; mais que Dieu ne nous parle pas, car alorsc'est la mort."
20 And Moses said to the people: “Do not be afraid. For God came in order to test you, and so that the dread of him might be with you, and you would not sin.”	20 Moïse dit au peuple: "Ne craignez pas. C'est pour vous mettre à l'épreuve que Dieu est venu, pourque sa crainte vous demeure présente et que vous ne péchiez pas."
21 And the people stood far away. But Moses approached toward the mist, in which was God.	21 Le peuple se tint à distance et Moïse s'approcha de la nuée obscure où était Dieu.
22 Thereafter, the Lord said to Moses: “This you shall say to the sons of Israel: You have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven.	22 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Tu parleras ainsi aux Israélites: Vous avez vu vous-mêmes comment je vousai parlé du haut du ciel.
23 You shall not make gods of silver, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.	23 Vous ne ferez pas à côté de moi des dieux d'argent, et des dieux d'or vous ne vous en ferez pas.
24 You shall make an altar from the earth for me, and you shall offer upon it your holocausts and peace-offerings, your sheep and oxen, in every place where the memory of my name shall be. I will come to you, and I will bless you.	24 Tu me feras un autel de terre sur quoi immoler tes holocaustes et tes sacrifices de communion, tonpetit et ton gros bétail. En tout lieu où je rappellerai mon nom, je viendrai à toi et je te bénirai.
25 And if you make an altar of stone for me, you shall not build it from cut stones; for if you lift up a tool over it, it will be defiled.	25 Si tu me fais un autel de pierres, ne le bâtis pas de pierres taillées, car, en le travaillant au ciseau, tule profanerais.
26 You shall not ascend by steps to my altar, lest your nakedness be revealed.”	26 Et tu ne monteras pas à mon autel par des marches pour n'y pas laisser voir ta nudité."
