Deuteronomy 8

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 'You must keep and put into practice al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that youmay survive and increase in numbers and enter the country which Yahweh promised on oath to your ancestors,and make it your own.	1 Tereis muito cuidado em observar todos os preceitos que eu hoje prescrevo, para que possais viver e multiplicar-vos, e, tendo entrado, possuais a terra que o Senhor jurou a vossos pais.
2 Remember the long road by which Yahweh your God led you for forty years in the desert, to humbleyou, to test you and know your inmost heart -- whether you would keep his commandments or not.	2 Recordar-te-ás de todo o caminho por onde o Senhor teu Deus te conduziu pelo deserto durante quarenta anos, para te castigar, para te provar, e para que tornasse manifesto o que estava dentro do teu coração se guardarás ou não os seus mandamentos.
3 He humbled you, he made you feel hunger, he fed you with manna which neither you nor yourancestors had ever known, to make you understand that human beings live not on bread alone but on everyword that comes from the mouth of Yahweh.	3 Afligiu-te com a fome, deu-te por sustento o maná, que tu desconhecias e teus pais, para te mostrar que o homem não vive só do pão, mas de toda a palavra que sai da boca de Deus.
4 The clothes on your back did not wear out and your feet were not swol en, all those forty years.	4 A roupa, com que te cobrias, não chegou a gastar-se com a velhice, e o teu pé não foi magoado durante estes quarenta anos,
5 'Learn from this that Yahweh your God was training you as a man trains his child,	5 para que reconheças no teu coração, que do mesmo modo que um homem instrui seu filho, assim o Senhor teu Deus, te instruiu a ti,
6 and keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and so follow his ways and fear him.	6 para que guardes os mandamentos do Senhor teu Deus, andando nos seus caminhos e temendo-o.
7 'But Yahweh your God is bringing you into a fine country, a land of streams and springs, of waters thatwel up from the deep in val eys and hil s,	7 Agora o Senhor teu Deus vai introduzir-te numa terra boa, terra de torrentes, de fontes e de águas profundas, que brotam nos vales e nos montes,
8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines, of figs, of pomegranates, a land of olives, of oil, of honey,	8 terra (fértil) de trigo, de cevada e de vinhas, onde nascem figueiras, romãzeiras e olivais; terra de azeite e de mel,
9 a land where you will eat bread without stint, where you wil want nothing, a land where the stones areiron and where the hil s may be quarried for copper.	9 onde, sem nenhuma escasses, comerás o teu pão e gozarás da abundância de todas as coisas; terra cujas pedras são ferro, de cujos montes sai o bronze.
10 You wil eat and have al you want and you wil bless Yahweh your God in the fine country which hehas given you.	10 Quando tiveres comido e estiveres saciado, darás graças ao Senhor teu Deus, pela excelente terra que te deu.
11 'Be careful not to forget Yahweh your God, by neglecting his commandments, customs and lawswhich I am laying down for you today.	11 Toma cuidado, e abstém-te de jamais esqueceres o Senhor teu Deus, de desprezar os seus preceitos, as suas leis e as suas cerimônias, que eu hoje te prescrevo,
12 When you have eaten al you want, when you have built fine houses to live in,	12 não suceda que, depois de teres comido e estares saciado, de teres edificado formosas casas, e morado nelas,
13 when you have seen your flocks and herds increase, your silver and gold abound and all yourpossessions grow great,	13 de teres manadas de bois e rebanhos de ovelhas, e abundância de prata e de ouro e de todas as coisas,
14 do not become proud of heart. Do not then forget Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, outof the place of slave-labour,	14 o teu coração se eleve, e te não lembres do Senhor teu Deus, que te tirou da terra do Egipto, da casa da servidão,
15 who guided you through this vast and dreadful desert, a land of fiery snakes, scorpions, thirst;	15 e que foi o teu guia no grande e terrível deserto, onde havia serpentes ardentes e escorpiões, e uma falta completa de água; que fez sair arroios da pedra duríssima.
16 who in this waterless place brought you water out of the flinty rock; who in this desert fed you withmanna unknown to your ancestors, to humble you and test you and so make your future the happier.	16 e que te alimentou no deserto com o maná, que teus pais não conheceram: que, depois de te ter afligido e provado, por fim teve compaixão de ti,
17 'Beware of thinking to yourself, "My own strength and the might of my own hand have given me thepower to act like this."	17 para que não dissesses no teu coração: a minha força e o vigor do meu braço adquiriram-me todas estas coisas,
18 Remember Yahweh your God; he was the one who gave you the strength to act effectively like this,thus keeping then, as today, the covenant which he swore to your ancestors.	18 mas antes te lembrasses que foi o Senhor teu Deus que te deu forças para cumprir o pacto, que jurou a teus pais, como mostra o dia de hoje.
19 Be sure: if you forget Yahweh your God, if you fol ow other gods, if you serve them and bow down tothem -- I testify to you today -- you wil perish.	19 Se tu, esquecendo-te do Senhor teu Deus, seguires os deuses estranhos, se os servires e os adorares, desde já te profetizo que, com toda a certeza, perecerás.
20 Like the nations Yahweh is to destroy before you, so you yourselves will perish, for not having listenedto the voice of Yahweh your God.'	20 Como as nações que o Senhor destruiu à vossa chegada, assim também perecereis vós, se fordes desobedientes à voz do Senhor vosso Deus.
