1 This third time I am coming to you. "On the testimony of two or three witnesses a fact shall be established."	1 Questa è la terza volta che vengo da voi. Ogni cosa sarà decisa sulla parola di due o tre testimoni.
2 I warned those who sinned earlier and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not be lenient,	2 L’ho già detto e ancora lo preannuncio da assente a coloro che per l’addietro hanno peccato e anche a tutti gli altri: se vengo di nuovo non userò indulgenza,
3 since you are looking for proof of Christ speaking in me. He is not weak toward you but powerful in you.	3 giacchè voi volete avere una prova che Cristo parla in me. Sì, egli non è debole nei vostri riguardi, ma è potente in mezzo a voi.
4 For indeed he was crucified out of weakness, but he lives by the power of God. So also we are weak in him, but toward you we shall live with him by the power of God.	4 Se fu crocifisso nella sua debolezza, vive ora per effetto della potenza di Dio. E noi pure, senza dubbio, siamo in lui deboli, ma ci mostreremo ben vivi, con lui, per opera della potenza di Dio verso di voi.
5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are living in faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless, of course, you fail the test.	5 Mettetevi alla prova per vedere se siete nella fede; esaminate voi stessi! O non sapete neanche riconoscere che Gesù è in voi? A meno che siate dei reprobi!
6 I hope you will discover that we have not failed.	6 Spero però che conoscerete che noi non siamo dei reprobi.
7 But we pray to God that you may not do evil, not that we may appear to have passed the test but that you may do what is right, even though we may seem to have failed.	7 Ora, preghiamo Iddio che non facciate alcun male; e non già perché noi abbiamo occasione di mostrarci sostenuti da Dio, ma perché voi continuiate nel bene, dovessimo pure figurare noi come reprobi.
8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.	8 Noi infatti nulla possiamo contro la verità. Siamo al servizio della verità.
9 For we rejoice when we are weak but you are strong. What we pray for is your improvement.	9 E allora ci rallegriamo, quando noi siamo deboli e voi siete forti; e questo, domandiamo nelle preghiere: il vostro perfezionamento.
10 I am writing this while I am away, so that when I come I may not have to be severe in virtue of the authority that the Lord has given me to build up and not to tear down.	10 Per questo vi scrivo tali cose da assente per non dovervi trattare di presenza con rigore, secondo il potere che il Signore mi ha dato per il vostro progresso spirituale e non per la vostra rovina.
11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.	11 Del resto, o fratelli, siate lieti, tendete alla perfezione, lasciatevi esortare, siate d’accordo, vivete in pace, e il Dio dell’amore e della pace sarà con voi.
12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the holy ones greet you.	12 Salutatevi a vicenda col bacio santo. Vi salutano i santi tutti.
13 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the holy Spirit be with all of you.	13 La grazia del Signore Gesù Cristo e l’amore di Dio e la partecipazione dello Spirito Santo siano con voi tutti.
