1 Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.	1 So halte man uns für Gehilfen Christi und Verwalter der Geheimnisse Gottes.
2 Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.	2 Unter Verwaltern ist man zwar sonst darauf bedacht, daß einer als treu erfunden werde.
3 It does not concern me in the least that I be judged by you or any human tribunal; I do not even pass judgment on myself;	3 Mir aber kommt es gar wenig darauf an, von euch gerichtet zu werden oder von einem Gerichtstag von Menschen; ja, nicht einmal selber richte ich mich.
4 I am not conscious of anything against me, but I do not thereby stand acquitted; the one who judges me is the Lord.	4 Ich bin mir zwar durchaus nichts bewußt, doch bin ich damit nicht für gerecht erklärt; der mich richtet, ist der Herr.
5 Therefore, do not make any judgment before the appointed time, until the Lord comes, for he will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will manifest the motives of our hearts, and then everyone will receive praise from God.	5 Richtet daher über nichts vor der Zeit, ehe der Herr kommt; er wird auch das im Dunkel Verborgene ans Licht bringen und offenbar machen die Regungen der Herzen, und dann wird Anerkennung werden einem jeden von Gott.
6 I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written, so that none of you will be inflated with pride in favor of one person over against another.	6 Dies nun, Brüder, habe ich in Anwendung auf mich und Apollos gesagt um euretwillen, daß ihr an uns einsehen lernt, nicht hinauszugehen über das, was geschrieben ist, so daß keiner von euch sich aufblähe in der Bevorzugung des einen und in der Ablehnung des andern.
7 Who confers distinction upon you? What do you possess that you have not received? But if you have received it, why are you boasting as if you did not receive it?	7 Wer denn gibt dir einen Vorrang? Was hast du, und hättest es nicht empfangen? Hast du also empfangen, was rühmst du dich, als hättest du nicht empfangen?
8 You are already satisfied; you have already grown rich; you have become kings without us! Indeed, I wish that you had become kings, so that we also might become kings with you.	8 Schon seid ihr gesättigt, schon wurdet ihr reich, ohne uns kamt ihr zum Herrschen. Ja, wäret ihr doch zum Herrschen gekommen, damit auch wir teilhätten an eurem Herrschen!
9 For as I see it, God has exhibited us apostles as the last of all, like people sentenced to death, since we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and human beings alike.	9 Denn mir scheint, als hätte Gott uns Apostel als die Allergeringsten hingestellt, wie solche, die bestimmt sind zum Tode; denn zum Schauspiel sind wir geworden der Welt, den Engeln und Menschen.
10 We are fools on Christ's account, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are held in honor, but we in disrepute.	10 Wir sind töricht um Christi willen, ihr seid klug in Christus; wir sind schwach, ihr seid stark; ihr seid geehrt, wir sind verachtet.
11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clad and roughly treated, we wander about homeless	11 Bis zur Stunde hungern und dürsten wir, sind entblößt, werden geschlagen, haben keine bleibende Stätte,
12 and we toil, working with our own hands. When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;	12 mühen uns ab in der Arbeit mit unseren Händen; man verflucht uns, und wir segnen; man verfolgt uns, und wir dulden;
13 when slandered, we respond gently. We have become like the world's rubbish, the scum of all, to this very moment.	13 man lästert uns, und wir trösten; wie ein Auswurf der Welt sind wir geworden, wie ein Abschaum von allem bis zur Stunde.
14 I am writing you this not to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.	14 Nicht um euch zu beschämen, schreibe ich dies, sondern um euch als meine geliebten Kinder zu ermahnen.
15 Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.	15 Denn hättet ihr auch zehntausend Lehrmeister in Christus, so doch nicht viele Väter; in Christus Jesus nämlich habe ich euch durch das Evangelium gezeugt.
16 Therefore, I urge you, be imitators of me.	16 Ich bitte euch daher: Werdet meine Nachahmer [, wie auch ich Christi Nachahmer bin]!
17 For this reason I am sending you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord; he will remind you of my ways in Christ (Jesus), just as I teach them everywhere in every church.	17 Eben darum sandte ich euch Timotheus, der mein geliebtes und treues Kind ist im Herrn; er wird euch ins Gedächtnis rufen meine Wege in Christus, wie ich allenthalben in jeder Gemeinde lehre.
18 Some have become inflated with pride, as if I were not coming to you.	18 Als ob ich nicht zu euch käme, so blähen sich einige auf.
19 But I will come to you soon, if the Lord is willing, and I shall ascertain not the talk of these inflated people but their power.	19 Doch werde ich rasch zu euch kommen, wenn der Herr es will, und dann will ich nicht das Reden der Aufgeblasenen kennenlernen, sondern ihre Kraft.
20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.	20 Denn nicht im Reden zeigt sich das Reich Gottes, sondern in der Kraft.
21 Which do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a gentle spirit?	21 Was wollt ihr? Soll ich mit dem Stock zu euch kommen oder mit Liebe und im Geist der Milde?
