1 They came to the other side of the sea, to the territory of the Gerasenes.	1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 When he got out of the boat, at once a man from the tombs who had an unclean spirit met him.	2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 The man had been dwelling among the tombs, and no one could restrain him any longer, even with a chain.	3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 In fact, he had frequently been bound with shackles and chains, but the chains had been pulled apart by him and the shackles smashed, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.	4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 Night and day among the tombs and on the hillsides he was always crying out and bruising himself with stones.	5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and prostrated himself before him,	6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 crying out in a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me!"	7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 (He had been saying to him, "Unclean spirit, come out of the man!")	8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 He asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "Legion is my name. There are many of us."	9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he pleaded earnestly with him not to drive them away from that territory.	10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside.	11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And they pleaded with him, "Send us into the swine. Let us enter them."	12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And he let them, and the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine. The herd of about two thousand rushed down a steep bank into the sea, where they were drowned.	13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 The swineherds ran away and reported the incident in the town and throughout the countryside. And people came out to see what had happened.	14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 As they approached Jesus, they caught sight of the man who had been possessed by Legion, sitting there clothed and in his right mind. And they were seized with fear.	15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 Those who witnessed the incident explained to them what had happened to the possessed man and to the swine.	16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 Then they began to beg him to leave their district.	17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed pleaded to remain with him.	18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 But he would not permit him but told him instead, "Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you."	19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 Then the man went off and began to proclaim in the Decapolis what Jesus had done for him; and all were amazed.	20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
21 When Jesus had crossed again (in the boat) to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea.	21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
22 One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward. Seeing him he fell at his feet	22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
23 and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, "My daughter is at the point of death. Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live."	23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
24 He went off with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him.	24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years.	25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse.	26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak.	27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured."	28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.	29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?"	30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31 But his disciples said to him, "You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'"	31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked around to see who had done it.	32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth.	33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."	34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official's house arrived and said, "Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?"	35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid; just have faith."	36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.	37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official, he caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly.	38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 So he went in and said to them, "Why this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep."	39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they ridiculed him. Then he put them all out. He took along the child's father and mother and those who were with him and entered the room where the child was.	40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum," which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!"	41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around. (At that) they were utterly astounded.	42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 He gave strict orders that no one should know this and said that she should be given something to eat.	43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
