Proverbs 9

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns;	1 La Sagesse a bâti sa maison, elle a taillé ses sept colonnes,
2 She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table.	2 elle a abattu ses bêtes, préparé son vin, elle a aussi dressé sa table.
3 She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city:	3 Elle a dépêché ses servantes et proclamé sur les buttes, en haut de la cité:
4 "Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say,	4 "Qui est simple? Qu'il passe par ici!" A l'homme insensé elle dit:
5 Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!	5 "Venez, mangez de mon pain, buvez du vin que j'ai préparé!
6 Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding.	6 Quittez la niaiserie et vous vivrez, marchez droit dans la voie de l'intelligence."
7 He who corrects an arrogant man earns insult; and he who reproves a wicked man incurs opprobrium.	7 Qui corrige un railleur s'attire le mépris, qui reprend un méchant, le déshonneur.
8 Reprove not an arrogant man, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.	8 Ne reprends pas le railleur, il te haïrait, reprends le sage, il t'aimera.
9 Instruct a wise man, and he becomes still wiser; teach a just man, and he advances in learning.	9 Donne au sage: il deviendra plus sage encore; instruis le juste, il accroîtra son acquis.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.	10 Principe de la sagesse: la crainte de Yahvé! la science des saints, voilà l'intelligence.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied and the years of your life increased."	11 Car par moi tes jours se multiplient et pour toi s'accroissent les années de vie.
12 If you are wise, it is to your own advantage; and if you are arrogant, you alone shall bear it.	12 Si tu es sage, tu l'es pour toi-même, si tu es railleur, toi seul en porteras la peine.
13 The woman Folly is fickle, she is inane, and knows nothing.	13 Dame Folie est impulsive, niaise et ne connaissant rien!
14 She sits at the door of her house upon a seat on the city heights,	14 Elle s'assied à la porte de sa maison, sur un trône, en haut de la cité,
15 Calling to passers-by as they go on their straight way:	15 pour appeler les passants, ceux qui vont droit leur chemin.
16 "Let whoever is simple turn in here, or who lacks understanding; for to him I say,	16 "Qui est simple? Qu'il fasse un détour par ici!" A l'homme insensé elle dit:
17 Stolen water is sweet, and bread gotten secretly is pleasing!"	17 "Les eaux dérobées sont douces, et savoureux le pain du mystère!"
18 Little he knows that the shades are there, that in the depths of the nether world are her guests!	18 Or il ignore qu'il y a là des Ombres et que ses invités sont aux vallées du shéol.
