Proverbs 20

1 Wine is arrogant, strong drink is riotous; none who goes astray for it is wise.	1 Il vino è un beffardo, il liquore un insolente; chi vi si attacca non può esser saggio.
2 The dread of the king is as when a lion roars; he who incurs his anger forfeits his life.	2 Come il ruggito del leone è l'ira del re; chi la eccita fa del male a se stesso.
3 It is honorable for a man to shun strife, while every fool starts a quarrel.	3 E' gloria per ognuno evitar le risse; ma ogni stolto vi si getta a capofitto.
4 In seedtime the sluggard plows not; when he looks for the harvest, it is not there.	4 Alla stagione nuova il pigro non lavora; al tempo della messe, cercherà ma invano.
5 The intention in the human heart is like water far below the surface, but the man of intelligence draws it forth.	5 Acqua profonda è il consiglio nel cuore dell'uomo; l'uomo intelligente vi saprà attingere.
6 Many are declared to be men of virtue: but who can find one worthy of trust?	6 Molti uomini proclamano la loro bontà; ma l'uomo fedele chi lo troverà?
7 When a man walks in integrity and justice, happy are his children after him!	7 Il giusto cammina nella sua integrità; beati i suoi figli dopo lui!
8 A king seated on the throne of judgment dispels all evil with his glance.	8 Un re che siede sopra un trono di giustizia, disperde con lo sguardo ogni malvagio.
9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am cleansed of my sin"?	9 Chi può dire: "Ho purificato il mio cuore", "Sono puro dal mio peccato"?
10 Varying weights, varying measures, are both an abomination to the LORD.	10 Peso diverso da peso, misura diversa da misura: tutt'e due sono abominate dal Signore.

14 "Bad, bad!" says the buyer; but once he has gone his way, he boasts.	14 "E' cattivo, è cattivo", dice il compratore; ma quando se ne è andato si felicita.
15 Like gold or a wealth of corals, wise lips are a precious ornament.	15 C'è l'oro e l'abbondanza delle perle; ma ornamento prezioso son le labbra dotte.
16 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for strangers yield it up!	16 Prendi la sua veste! L'ha impegnata per uno straniero! Per gli sconosciuti tienla in pegno!
17 The bread of deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.	17 Dolce è per l'uomo il cibo della frode, ma dopo la sua bocca è piena di sabbia.
18 Plans made after advice succeed; so with wise guidance wage your war.	18 Consolida i progetti col consiglio, con piani ben precisi fa' la guerra.
19 A newsmonger reveals secrets; so have nothing to do with a babbler!	19 Rivela i segreti chi sparla facilmente; con chi tien le labbra aperte, non aver contatti.
20 If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.	20 Chi maledice suo padre e sua madre, la sua luce si spegnerà come quando fa buio.
21 Possessions gained hastily at the outset will in the end not be blessed.	21 L'eredità acquistata in fretta all'inizio, non sarà benedetta alla sua fine.
22 Say not, "I will repay evil!" Trust in the LORD and he will help you.	22 Non dire: "Renderò male per male!"; spera nel Signore e lui ti salverà.

25 Rashly to pledge a sacred gift is a trap for a man, or to regret a vow once made.	25 E' un laccio per l'uomo dire in fretta: "Cosa sacra!", e dopo fatto il voto ripensarci.
26 A wise king winnows the wicked, and threshes them under the cartwheel.	26 Disperde gli empi un re sapiente, rotola su di loro il rullo.
27 A lamp from the LORD is the breath of man; it searches through all his inmost being.	27 Lampada del Signore è lo spirito dell'uomo, che scruta fino al fondo del suo essere.
28 Kindness and piety safeguard the king, and he upholds his throne by justice.	28 Bontà e fedeltà vegliano il re, nella giustizia si consolida il suo trono.
29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the dignity of old men is gray hair.	29 Corona dei giovani è il loro vigore, ornamento dei vecchi è la canizie.
30 Evil is cleansed away by bloody lashes, and a scourging to the inmost being.	30 Le ferite sanguinanti sono rimedio contro il male; i colpi lo sono dell'intimo dell'animo.
