	1 Jó continuou seu discurso nestes termos:
2 As God lives, who withholds my deserts, the Almighty, who has made bitter my soul,	2 “Pelo Deus vivo que me recusa justiça, pelo Todo-poderoso, que enche minha alma de amargura.
3 So long as I still have life in me and the breath of God is in my nostrils,	3 Enquanto em mim restar alento e o sopro de Deus passar por minhas narinas,
4 My lips shall not speak falsehood, nor my tongue utter deceit!	4 meus lábios não falarão maldades e minha língua não proferirá mentiras.
5 Far be it from me to account you right; till I die I will not renounce my innocence.	5 Longe de mim dar-vos razão! Até meu último suspiro defenderei minha inocência,
6 My justice I maintain and I will not relinquish it; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.	6 mantenho firme minha justiça, não a abandonarei; minha consciência não acusa nenhum de meus dias.
7 Let my enemy be as the wicked and my adversary as the unjust!	7 Que meu inimigo seja tratado como ímpio e meu adversário, como perverso!
8 For what can the impious man expect when he is cut off, when God requires his life?	8 Que pode esperar o ímpio de sua oração, quando eleva para Deus a sua alma?
9 Will God then attend to his cry when calamity comes upon him?	9 Deus escutará seu clamor, quando a angústia cair sobre ele?
10 Will he then delight in the Almighty and call upon him constantly?	10 Encontrará ele seu conforto no Todo-poderoso e invocará ele Deus em todo o tempo?
11 I will teach you the manner of God's dealings, and the way of the Almighty I will not conceal.	11 Eu vos ensinarei o poder de Deus, não vos ocultarei os desígnios do Todo-poderoso.
12 Behold, you yourselves have all seen it; why then do you spend yourselves in idle words!	12 Mas todos vós já o sabeis; por que proferis palavras vãs?
13 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the inheritance an oppressor receives from the Almighty:	13 Esta é a sorte que Deus reserva ao ímpio e a parte reservada ao violento pelo Todo-poderoso.
14 Though his children be many, the sword is their destiny. His offspring shall not be filled with bread.	14 Se seus filhos se multiplicam, é para a espada e seus descendentes não terão o que comer.
15 His survivors, when they die, shall have no burial, and their widows shall not be mourned.	15 Seus sobreviventes serão sepultados na ruína e suas viúvas não os chorarão.
16 Though he heap up silver like dust and store away mounds of clothing,	16 Se amontoa prata como pó e se ajunta vestimentas como barro,
17 What he has stored the just man shall wear, and the innocent shall divide the silver.	17 que amontoe, mas é o justo quem as vestirá e o inocente herdará a prata.
18 He builds his house as of cobwebs, or like a booth put up by the vine-keeper.	18 Constrói sua casa como a casa da aranha, como a choupana que o vigia constrói.
19 He lies down a rich man, one last time; he opens his eyes and nothing remains to him.	19 Deita-se rico, mas é pela última vez. Quando abre os olhos, já deixou de sê-lo.
20 Terrors rush upon him by day; at night the tempest carries him off.	20 O terror o invade como um dilúvio e um redemoinho o arrebata durante a noite.
21 The storm wind seizes him and he disappears; it sweeps him out of his place.	21 O vento do leste o leva e o faz desaparecer, varrendo-o violentamente de seu lugar.
	22 Precipitam-se sobre ele sem compaixão e é arrastado numa fuga desvairada.
	23 Sua ruína é aplaudida. De sua própria casa assobiarão sobre ele.
