1 After Ahab's death, Moab rebelled against Israel.	1 morto Akhab, Moab si ribellò contro Israele.
2 Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his roof terrace at Samaria and had been injured. So he sent out messengers with the instructions: "Go and inquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury."	2 Ora Okhozia cadde dal parapetto della sua camera superiore a Samaria e si ammalò. Spedì pertanto messaggeri con quest’ordine: «Andate a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron, per sapere se mi riprenderò da questa infermità».
3 Meanwhile, the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite: "Go, intercept the messengers of Samaria's king, and ask them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron?'	3 Ma l’angelo di Jahvè parlò a Elia il Teshbita: «Orsù, va’ incontro ai messaggeri del re di Samaria e di’ loro: “Non c’è forse nessun Dio in Israele, perché voi andiate a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron?
4 For this, the LORD says: 'You shall not leave the bed upon which you lie; instead, you shall die.'" And with that, Elijah departed.	4 Perciò così dice Jahvè: Tu non scenderai più dal letto su cui sei salito, perché devi morire”». Ed Elia se ne andò.
5 The messengers then returned to Ahaziah, who asked them. "Why have you returned?"	5 I messaggeri tornarono dal re e questi chiese loro: «Perché siete ritornati?»
6 "A man came up to us," they answered, "who said to us, 'Go back to the king who sent you and tell him: The LORD says, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron? For this you shall not leave the bed upon which you lie; instead, you shall die.'"	6 Gli risposero: «Un uomo ci è venuto incontro e ci ha detto: “Ritornate dal re che vi ha inviato e riferitegli: Così dice Jahvè: Non c’è forse nessun Dio in Israele, perché tu debba mandare a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron? Perciò tu non scenderai più dal letto su cui sei salito, perché devi morire”»,
7 The king asked them, "What was the man like who came up to you and said these things to you?"	7 L’altro domandò loro: «Come era vestito l’uomo che vi è venuto incontro e vi ha detto queste cose?»
8 "Wearing a hairy garment," they replied, "with a leather girdle about his loins." "It is Elijah the Tishbite!" he exclaimed.	8 Gli risposero: «È un uomo vestito di pelo, con una cintura di cuoio stretta ai fianchi!» Quegli esclamò: «È Elia il Teshbita!» e
9 Then the king sent a captain with his company of fifty men after Elijah. The prophet was seated on a hilltop when he found him. "Man of God," he ordered, "the king commands you to come down."	9 Allora gli inviò un capo di cinquanta uomini. Costui salì da Elia — se ne stava allora seduto in vetta al monte — e gli disse: «O uomo di Dio, il re vuole che tu scenda!»
10 "If I am a man of God," Elijah answered the captain, "may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men." And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.	10 Ma Elia rispose al capo di cinquanta: «Se io sono uomo di Dio, scenda il fuoco dal cielo e divori te e i tuoi cinquanta uomini». Il fuoco discese dal cielo e divorò lui e i cinquanta uomini.
11 Ahaziah sent another captain with his company of fifty men after Elijah. "Man of God," he called out to Elijah, "the king commands you to come down immediately."	11 Allora il re di nuovo gli inviò un altro capo di cinquanta con i cinquanta uomini. Questi salì da Elia e gli disse: «O uomo di Dio, il re vuole che ti affretti a scendere!»
12 "If I am a man of God," Elijah answered him, "may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men." And divine fire came down from heaven, consuming him and his fifty men.	12 Ma Elia gli rispose: «Se io sono un uomo di Dio, scenda il fuoco dal cielo e divori te e i tuoi cinquanta uomini!» Il fuoco discese dal cielo e divorò lui e i cinquanta uomini.
13 Again, for the third time, Ahaziah sent a captain with his company of fifty men. When the third captain arrived, he fell to his knees before Elijah, pleading with him. "Man of God," he implored him, "let my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants, count for something in your sight!	13 Il re inviò per la terza volta un capo di cinquanta con i cinquanta uomini. Questi salì, si inginocchiò innanzi a Elia e, supplicandolo, gli disse: «O uomo di Dio, la mia vita e la vita di questi cinquanta tuoi servitori siano preziose ai tuoi occhi.
14 Already fire has come down from heaven, consuming two captains with their companies of fifty men. But now, let my life mean something to you!"	14 Ecco, il fuoco è disceso dal cielo e ha divorato i due primi capi e i loro cinquanta uomini; ora però la mia vita sia preziosa ai tuoi occhi!»
15 Then the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, "Go down with him; you need not be afraid of him."	15 Allora l’angelo di Jahvè parlò a Elia: «Scendi pure con lui e non temere da parte sua». Egli si alzò, discese con lui dal re
16 So Elijah left and went down with him and stated to the king: "Thus says the LORD: 'Because you sent messengers to inquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, you shall not leave the bed upon which you lie; instead you shall die.'"	16 e gli disse: «Così dice Jahvè: “Poiché hai inviato messaggeri a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron, tu non scenderai più dal letto su cui sei salito, perché devi morire!”»,
17 Ahaziah died in fulfillment of the prophecy of the LORD spoken by Elijah. Since he had no son, his brother Joram succeeded him as king, in the second year of Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.	17 E infatti morì secondo la parola di Jahvè che Elia aveva pronunciato. Joram suo fratello regnò al suo posto, il secondo anno di Joram figlio di Joshafat, re di Giuda. Okhozia infatti non aveva alcun figlio.
18 The rest of the acts of Ahaziah are recorded in the book of chronicles of the kings of Israel.	18 Il resto degli atti di Okhozia forse non sono cose scritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Israele?
