| 1 Procura diligentemente di osservare tutti i comandamenti, che io oggi ti annunzio; affinché possiate vivere, e moltiplichiate ed entriate a possedere la terra promessa dal Signore con giuramento a' padri vostri. | 1 "All the commandment which I command you this day you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers. |
| 2 Tu terrai a memoria tutto il viaggio che il Signore Dio tuo ti fece fare per quarant'anni nel deserto per umiliarti, e per far prova di te, e affinché si rendesse manifesto quel che tu avevi nel cuore, se tu fossi, o no per adempire i suoi comandamenti. | 2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not. |
| 3 Ti afflisse colla penuria, e ti diè per cibo la manna non conosciuta da te, né da' padri tuoi, per farti vedere, come non di solo pane vive l'uomo, ma di qualunque cosa, che Dio avrà ordinato. | 3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. |
| 4 La tua veste, ond'eri coperto, non venne meno per la vecchiezza, e il tuo piede non rimase pesto, ecco che questo è il quarantesimo anno. | 4 Your clothing did not wear out upon you, and your foot did not swell, these forty years. |
| 5 E ripensa in cuor tuo, che in quella guisa che un uomo corregge il suo figliuolo, così il Signore Dio tuo ti corresse. | 5 Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the LORD your God disciplines you. |
| 6 Affinché tu osservi i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, e cammini nelle sue vie, e lo tema: | 6 So you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, by walking in his ways and by fearing him. |
| 7 Conciossiaché il Signore Dio tuo t’introdurrà in questa terra buona, terra di rivi, e di laghi e di fontane: dove e ne' piani, e ne' colli zampillano sorgenti perenni: | 7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills, |
| 8 Terra da grano, da orzo, e da viti, dove nascono e fichi, e meligranati, e uliveti: terra di olio e di miele, | 8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, |
| 9 Dove senza risparmio mangerai il tuo pane, e goderai abondanza d'ogni bene: terra, di cui le pietre son ferro, e da' monti si scavan metalli: | 9 a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. |
| 10 Affinché quando tu avrai mangiato, e sarai satollo, tu renda grazie al Signore Dio tuo dell'ottima terra, ch'egli ti ha dato. | 10 And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. |
| 11 Sta vigilante, e guardati dal dimenticarti giammai del Signore Dio tuo, e dal trascurare i comandamenti di lui, e le leggi, e le cerimonie, che io oggi ti annunzio: | 11 "Take heed lest you forget the LORD your God, by not keeping his commandments and his ordinances and his statutes, which I command you this day: |
| 12 Abbi cura, che quando avrai mangiato, e sarai satollo, quando avrai edificate di belle case, e le abiterai, | 12 lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses and live in them, |
| 13 E avrai mandre di buoi, e greggi di pecore, e copia d'oro, d'argento, e di tutte le cose, | 13 and when your herds and flocks multiply, and your silver and gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, |
| 14 Non s'inalberi il cuor tuo, onde non ti ricordi del Signore Dio tuo, che ti trasse dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù. | 14 then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, |
| 15 E fu tuo condottiere nel deserto grande e terribile, dove erano serpenti, che abbruciavan col fiato, e scorpioni, e dipsadi, e total mancanza di acqua: il quale da durissima pietra fe sgorgare de’ rivi. | 15 who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, who brought you water out of the flinty rock, |
| 16 E ti cibò nel deserto colla manna non conosciuta da' padri tuoi. E dopo di averti afflitto e provato, ebbe alla fine misericordia di te. | 16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end. |
| 17 Affinché tu in cuor tuo non dicessi: II mio valore, e il mio braccio forte hanno prodotto a me tutti questi beni. | 17 Beware lest you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.' |
| 18 Ma ti ricordi, come il Signore Dio tuo è quegli che ti diè forza affin di adempire il patto fermato con giuramento co' padri tuoi, come il dì d'oggi dimostra. | 18 You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may confirm his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day. |
| 19 Ma se tu dimentico del Signore Dio tuo andrai dietro agli dii stranieri, e loro renderai culto, e gli adorerai, ecco che io ti profetizzo, che tu andrai totalmente in ruina. | 19 And if you forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you this day that you shall surely perish. |
| 20 Appunto come quelle nazioni, le quali dal Signore sono state distrutte alla tua venuta: così voi pur perirete, se sarete disobbedienti alla voce del Signore Dio vostro. | 20 Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God. |
