KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.1 For the leader; according to "Lilies." Of David.
I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.2 Save me, God, for the waters have reached my neck.
I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.3 I have sunk into the mire of the deep, where there is no foothold. I have gone down to the watery depths; the flood overwhelms me.
They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.4 I am weary with crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes have failed, looking for my God.
O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.5 More numerous than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause. Too many for my strength are my treacherous enemies. Must I now restore what I did not steal?
Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.6 God, you know my folly; my faults are not hidden from you.
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.7 Let those who wait for you, LORD of hosts, not be shamed through me. Let those who seek you, God of Israel, not be disgraced through me
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.8 For your sake I bear insult, shame covers my face.
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.9 I have become an outcast to my kin, a stranger to my mother's children.
When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.10 Because zeal for your house consumes me, I am scorned by those who scorn you.
I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.11 I have wept and fasted, but this led only to scorn.
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.12 I clothed myself in sackcloth; I became a byword for them.
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.13 They who sit at the gate gossip about me; drunkards make me the butt of their songs.
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.14 But I pray to you, LORD, for the time of your favor. God, in your great kindness answer me with your constant help.
Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.15 Rescue me from the mire; do not let me sink. Rescue me from my enemies and from the watery depths.
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.16 Do not let the floodwaters overwhelm me, nor the deep swallow me, nor the mouth of the pit close over me.
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.17 Answer me, LORD, in your generous love; in your great mercy turn to me.
Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.18 Do not hide your face from your servant; in my distress hasten to answer me.
Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.19 Come and ransom my life; because of my enemies redeem me.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.20 You know my reproach, my shame, my disgrace; before you stand all my foes.
They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.21 Insult has broken my heart, and I am weak; I looked for compassion, but there was none, for comforters, but found none.
Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.22 Instead they put gall in my food; for my thirst they gave me vinegar.
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.23 Make their own table a snare for them, a trap for their friends.
Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.24 Make their eyes so dim they cannot see; keep their backs ever feeble.
Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.25 Pour out your wrath upon them; let the fury of your anger overtake them.
For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.26 Make their camp desolate, with none to dwell in their tents.
Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.27 For they pursued the one you struck, added to the pain of the one you wounded.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.28 Add that to their crimes; let them not attain to your reward.
But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.29 Strike them from the book of the living; do not count them among the just!
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.30 But I am afflicted and in pain; let your saving help protect me, God,
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.31 That I may praise God's name in song and glorify it with thanksgiving.
The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.32 My song will please the LORD more than oxen, more than bullocks with horns and hooves:
For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.33 "See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, take heart!
Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and everything that moveth therein.34 For the LORD hears the poor, does not spurn those in bondage.
For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.35 Let the heavens and the earth sing praise, the seas and whatever moves in them!"
The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.36 God will rescue Zion, rebuild the cities of Judah. God's servants shall dwell in the land and possess it;
7) it shall be the heritage of their descendants; those who love God's name shall dwell there.
