1 Jahve Mojsiju na Moapskim poljanama kod Jordana, nasuprot Jerihonu:	1 The LORD gave these instructions to Moses on the plains of Moab beside the Jericho stretch of the Jordan:
2 »Naredi Izraelcima da ustupe levitima od baštine koju posjeduju gradove gdje će stanovati i pašnjake oko gradova. To dajte levitima.	2 "Tell the Israelites that out of their hereditary property they shall give the Levites cities for homes, as well as pasture lands around the cities.
3 Neka gradovi budu njima za stanovanje, a okolni pašnjaci neka budu za njihova goveda, njihovo blago i sve njihove životinje.	3 The cities shall serve them to dwell in, and the pasture lands shall serve their herds and flocks and other animals.
4 Pašnjaci uz gradove koje ustupite levitima neka zahvate od gradskih zidina van do tisuću lakata naokolo.	4 The pasture lands of the cities to be assigned the Levites shall extend a thousand cubits from the city walls in each direction.
5 Izmjerite od grada van dvije tisuće lakata s istočne strane, dvije tisuće lakata s južne strane, dvije tisuće lakata sa zapadne strane i sa sjeverne strane dvije tisuće lakata, tako da grad bude u sredini. To neka im budu gradski pašnjaci.	5 Thus you shall measure out two thousand cubits outside the city along each side-east, south, west and north-with the city lying in the center. This shall serve them as the pasture lands of their cities.
6 Od gradova koje budete dali levitima šest će ih biti gradovi-utočišta, koje ćete ustupiti da ubojica može tamo pobjeći. Tima dodajte još četrdeset i dva grada.	6 "Now these are the cities you shall give to the Levites: the six cities of asylum which you must establish as places where a homicide can take refuge, and in addition forty-two other cities--
7 Tako će svih gradova koje ustupite levitima biti četrdeset i osam gradova s njihovim pašnjacima.	7 a total of forty-eight cities with their pasture lands to be assigned the Levites.
8 A gradove koje budete izdvajali od vlasništva Izraelaca, od onih koji ih imaju mnogo uzmite više, a manje od onih koji imaju malo. Neka svatko ustupi gradove levitima prema omjeru baštine koju bude primio.«	8 In assigning the cities from the property of the Israelites, take more from a larger group and fewer from a smaller one, so that each group will cede cities to the Levites in proportion to its own heritage."
9 Nadalje reče Jahve Mojsiju:	9 The LORD said to Moses,
10 »Govori Izraelcima i reci im: ‘Kad prijeđete preko Jordana u zemlju kanaansku,	10 "Tell the Israelites: When you go across the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
11 označite sebi gradove koji će vam služiti kao gradovi-utočišta, kamo može pobjeći ubojica koji nehotice koga ubije.	11 select for yourselves cities to serve as cities of asylum, where a homicide who has killed someone unintentionally may take refuge.
12 Ti gradovi neka vam budu utočište od osvetnika, tako da ubojica ne moradne poginuti dok ne stane na sud pred zajednicu.	12 These cities shall serve you as places of asylum from the avenger of blood, so that a homicide shall not be put to death unless he is first tried before the community.
13 Od gradova koje ustupite bit će vam šest gradova za utočište.	13 Six cities of asylum shall you assign:
14 Dodijelite tri grada s onu stranu Jordana, a tri grada u zemlji kanaanskoj. Neka to budu gradovi-utočišta.	14 three beyond the Jordan, and three in the land of Canaan.
15 Tih šest gradova neka budu za utočište kako Izraelcima tako i strancu i došljaku koji među njima borave, kamo može pobjeći tko god ubije koga nehotice.	15 These six cities of asylum shall serve not only the Israelites but all the resident or transient aliens among them, so that anyone who has killed another unintentionally may take refuge there.
16 Ali ako tko udari koga gvozdenim predmetom te ga usmrti, to je onda ubojica. Ubojica mora glavom platiti.	16 "If a man strikes another with an iron instrument and causes his death, he is a murderer and shall be put to death.
17 Udari li ga iz ruke kamenom od kojega čovjek može poginuti i zbilja pogine, to je opet ubojica. Ubojica mora glavom platiti.	17 If a man strikes another with a death-dealing stone in his hand and causes his death, he is a murderer and shall be put to death.
18 Ili ako ga udari iz ruke kakvim drvenim predmetom od kojega može umrijeti i zbilja umre, i to je ubojica. Ubojica mora glavom platiti.	18 If a man strikes another with a death-dealing club in his hand and causes his death, he is a murderer and shall be put to death.
19 Krvni osvetnik mora sam ubojicu usmrtiti. Kad ga sretne, neka ga ubije.	19 The avenger of blood may execute the murderer, putting him to death on sight.
20 Nadalje, ako tko koga gurne iz mržnje ili na nj nešto baci namjerno te ga usmrti,	20 "If a man pushes another out of hatred, or after lying in wait for him throws something at him, and causes his death,
21 ili ga udari rukom iz zlobe te udareni umre, napadač mora zaglaviti – on je ubojica. Krvni osvetnik neka ubojicu ubije čim ga sretne.	21 or if he strikes another out of enmity and causes his death, he shall be put to death as a murderer. The avenger of blood may execute the murderer on sight.
22 No gurne li ga slučajno, ne iz neprijateljstva, ili nešto na nj baci, ali ne iz zasjede,	22 "However, if a man pushes another accidentally and not out of enmity, or if without lying in wait for him he throws some object at him,
23 ili iz nepažnje na njega obori kakav kamen od kojega čovjek može poginuti te ga usmrti, a nije mu bio neprijatelj niti mu je zlo želio –	23 or without seeing him throws a death-dealing stone which strikes him and causes his death, although he was not his enemy nor seeking to harm him:
24 tada neka zajednica prosudi između ubojice i krvnog osvetnika prema ovim pravilima:	24 then the community, deciding the case between the slayer and the avenger of blood in accordance with these norms,
25 Zajednica mora izbaviti ubojicu iz ruku krvnog osvetnika; onda neka ga zajednica vrati u grad-utočište kamo je pobjegao; tu neka on ostane do smrti velikoga svećenika koji je bio pomazan svetim uljem.	25 shall free the homicide from the avenger of blood and shall remand him to the city of asylum where he took refuge; and he shall stay there until the death of the high priest who has been anointed with sacred oil.
26 Ali ako ubojica ikad izađe izvan granice utočišta kamo je pobjegao,	26 If the homicide of his own accord leaves the bounds of the city of asylum where he has taken refuge,
27 pa na nj nabasa krvni osvetnik izvan granica njegova grada-utočišta te krvni osvetnik ubije ubojicu, to mu se ne računa u krvoproliće,	27 and the avenger of blood finds him beyond these bounds and kills him, the avenger incurs no bloodguilt;
28 jer ubojica mora ostati u gradu-utočištu do smrti velikoga svećenika. A poslije smrti velikoga svećenika može se vratiti na svoj posjed.	28 the homicide was bound to stay in his city of asylum until the death of the high priest. Only after the death of the high priest may the homicide return to his own district.
29 Neka vam takvi budu sudbeni postupci od naraštaja do naraštaja svuda gdje budete boravili.	29 "These shall be norms for you and all your descendants, wherever you live, for rendering judgment.
30 Za svako ubojstvo čovjeka kazna smrti nad ubojicom može se izvršiti na dokaz svjedokâ. Nitko se ne može smrću kazniti na dokaz samo jednog svjedoka.	30 "Whenever someone kills another, the evidence of witnesses is required for the execution of the murderer. The evidence of a single witness is not sufficient for putting a person to death.
31 Ne smijete primati otkupnine za život ubojice koji je zaslužio smrt: on mora umrijeti.	31 "You shall not accept indemnity in place of the life of a murderer who deserves the death penalty; he must be put to death.
32 Niti smijete primati otkupnine od bilo koga koji, pošto je pobjegao u svoj grad-utočište, hoće da se vrati i da živi na svome tlu prije smrti velikoga svećenika.	32 Nor shall you accept indemnity to allow a refugee to leave his city of asylum and again dwell elsewhere in the land before the death of the high priest.
33 Nemojte oskvrnjivati zemlje u kojoj živite. A krvoprolićem zemlja se oskvrnjuje. Za zemlju na kojoj je krv prolivena pomirenje se ne može pribaviti, osim krvlju onoga koji ju je prolio.	33 You shall not desecrate the land where you live. Since bloodshed desecrates the land, the land can have no atonement for the blood shed on it except through the blood of him who shed it.
34 Ne smije se obeščašćivati zemlja u kojoj živite i usred koje ja boravim, jer ja, Jahve, prebivam među sinovima Izraelovim.’«	34 Do not defile the land in which you live and in the midst of which I dwell; for I am the LORD who dwells in the midst of the Israelites."
