DOUAI-RHEIMSSAGRADA BIBLIA
And Jesus answering, spoke again in parables to them, saying:1 Jesus tornou a falar-lhes por meio de parábolas:
The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king, who made a marriage for his son.2 The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,
And he sent his servants, to call them that were invited to the marriage; and they would not come.3 and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.
Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my beeves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage.4 Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.
But they neglected, and went their own ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise.5 But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.
And the rest laid hands on his servants, and having treated them contumeliously, put them to death.6 And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew {them}.
But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city.7 And {when} the king {heard of it he} was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Then he saith to his servants: The marriage indeed is ready; but they that were invited were not worthy.8 Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;
Go ye therefore into the highways; and as many as you shall find, call to the marriage.9 go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.
And his servants going forth into the ways, gathered together all that they found, both bad and good: and the marriage was filled with guests.10 And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.
And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment.11 And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.
And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? But he was silent.12 And he says to him, {My} friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.
Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
For many are called, but few are chosen.14 For many are called ones, but few chosen ones.
Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.15 And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men?s person;
And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou dost not regard the person of men.16 tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Tell us therefore what dost thou think, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?17 But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?
But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites?18 Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.
Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.19 And he says to them, Whose {is} this image and superscription?
And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this?20 They say to him, Caesar?s. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar?s to Caesar, and what is God?s to God.
They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.21 And when they heard {him}, they wondered, and left him, and went away.
And hearing this they wondered, and leaving him, went their ways.22 saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.
That day there came to him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and asked him,23 Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.
Saying: Master, Moses said: If a man die having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up issue to his brother.24 In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.
Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first having married a wife, died; and not having issue, left his wife to his brother.25 And last of all the woman also died.
In like manner the second, and the third, and so on to the seventh.26 In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?
And last of all the woman died also.27 And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.
At the resurrection therefore whose wife of the seven shall she be? for they all had her.28 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.
And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.29 Quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, não lestes o que Deus vos disse:
For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married; but shall be as the angels of God in heaven.30 Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaac e o Deus de Jacó {Ex 3,6}? Ora, ele não é Deus dos mortos, mas Deus dos vivos.
And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken by God, saying to you:31 E, ouvindo esta doutrina, as turbas se enchiam de grande admiração.
I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.32 Sabendo os fariseus que Jesus reduzira ao silêncio os saduceus, reuniram-se
And the multitudes hearing it, were in admiration at his doctrine.33 e um deles, doutor da lei, fez-lhe esta pergunta para pô-lo à prova:
But the Pharisees hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, came together:34 Mestre, qual é o maior mandamento da lei?
And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:35 Respondeu Jesus: Amarás o Senhor teu Deus de todo teu coração, de toda tua alma e de todo teu espírito {Dt 6,5}.
Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?36 Este é o maior e o primeiro mandamento.
Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.37 E o segundo, semelhante a este, é: Amarás teu próximo como a ti mesmo {Lv 19,18}.
This is the greatest and the first commandment.38 Nesses dois mandamentos se resumem toda a lei e os profetas.
And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.39 Como os fariseus se agrupassem, Jesus interrogou-os:
On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.40 Que pensais vós de Cristo? De quem é filho? Responderam: De Davi!
And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus asked them,41 Como então, prosseguiu Jesus, Davi, falando sob inspiração do Espírito, chama-o Senhor, dizendo:
Saying: What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him: David's.42 O Senhor disse a meu Senhor: Senta-te à minha direita, até que eu ponha teus inimigos por escabelo dos teus pés {Sl 109,1}?
He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying:43 Se, pois, Davi o chama Senhor, como é ele seu filho?
The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?44 Ninguém pôde responder-lhe nada. E, depois daquele dia, ninguém mais ousou interrogá-lo.
If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
