1 Woe to them that make wicked laws: and when they write, write injustice:	1 Malheur à ceux qui décrètent des lois iniques, et qui écrivent des ordonnances injustes,
2 To oppress the poor in judgment, and do violence to the cause of the humble of my people: that widows might be their prey, and that they might rob the fatherless.	2 pour opprimer les pauvres dans le jugement, et pour violer le droit des faibles de mon peuple, pour faire des veuves leur proie et pour piller l'orphelin. (!)
3 What will you do in the day of visitation, and of the calamity which cometh from afar? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?	3 Que ferez-vous au jour de la visite (divine), au jour de la calamité qui viendra de loin ? Vers qui fuirez-vous pour avoir du secours ? et où laisserez-vous votre gloire,
4 That you be not bowed down under the bond, and fall with the slain? In all these things his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.	4 pour n'être pas courbés sous les chaînes, et pour ne pas tomber parmi les morts ? Malgré tout cela sa fureur n'est pas apaisée, et sa main est encore étendue.
5 Woe to the Assyrian, he is the rod and the staff of my anger, and my indignation is in their hands.	5 Malheur à Assur ! Il est la verge et le bâton de ma fureur ; mon indignation est dans sa main.
6 I will send him to a deceitful nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take away the spoils, and to lay hold on the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.	6 Je l'enverrai contre une nation perfide, et je lui donnerai des ordres contre le peuple de ma fureur, afin qu'il en emporte les dépouilles, qu'il le mette au pillage, et qu'il le foule aux pieds comme la boue des rues.
7 But he shall not take it so, and his heart shall not think so: but his heart shall be set to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few.	7 Mais il (lui-même) ne jugera pas ainsi, et son cœur n'aura pas cette pensée (un pareil sentiment) ; mais il ne songera qu'à détruire, et à exterminer des peuples nombreux.
8 For he shall say:	8 Car il dira :
9 Are not my princes as so many kings ? is not Calano as Charcamis: and Emath as Arphad? is not Samaria as Damascus?	9 Mes princes ne sont-ils pas autant de rois ? N'en a-t-il pas été de Calano comme de Charchamis, d'Emath comme d'Arphad, de Samarie comme de Damas ?
10 As my hand hath found the kingdome of the idol, so also their idols of Jerusalem, and of Samaria.	10 De même que ma main atteint les royaumes des idoles, ainsi j'emporterai leurs statues (atteindrai les simulacres) de Jérusalem et de Samarie.
11 Shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?	11 Ce que j'ai fait à Samarie et à ses idoles, ne ferai-je pas aussi à Jérusalem et à ses images (simulacres) ?
12 And it shall come to pass, that when the Lord shall have performed all his works in mount Sion, and in Jerusalem, I will visit the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of the haughtiness of his eyes.	12 Mais, lorsque le Seigneur aura accompli toutes ses œuvres sur la montagne de Sion et dans Jérusalem (, ou :) Je visiterai, (dit-il,) le fruit du cœur insolent du roi d'Assur, et l'arrogance de ses yeux altiers.
13 For he hath said: By the strength of my own hand I have done it, and by my own wisdom I have understood: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have taken the spoils of the princes, and as a mighty man hath pulled down them that sat on high.	13 Car il a dit : C'est par la force de mon bras que j'ai agi, et c'est par ma sagesse que j'ai compris ; et j'ai enlevé les limites des peuples, j'ai pillé les trésors de leurs (spolié les) princes, et comme un héros (puissant), j'ai arraché (fait descendre) les rois de leurs trônes.
14 And my hand hath found the strength of the people as a nest; and as eggs are gathered, that are left, so have I gathered all the earth: and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or made the least noise.	14 Ma main est descendue sur la richesse (puissance) des peuples comme sur un nid, et comme on ramasse des œufs abandonnés, ainsi j'ai ramassé toute la terre, et nul n'a remué l'aile, ni ouvert la bouche, ni poussé le moindre cri.
15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that cutteth with it? or shall the saw exalt itself against him by whom it is drawn? as if a rod should lift itself up against him that lifteth it up, and a staff exalt itself, which is but wood.	15 La cognée (hache) se glorifie-t-elle contre celui qui s'en sert (pour fendre) ? la scie se soulève-t-elle contre celui qui la tire ? Comme si la verge s'élevait contre celui qui la lève, et comme si le bâton se glorifiait, lui qui n'est (absolument) que du bois ! (.)
16 Therefore the sovereign Lord, the Lord of hosts, shall send leanness among his fat ones: and under his glory shall be kindled a burning, as it were the burning of a fire.	16 C'est pourquoi le dominateur, le Seigneur des armées enverra la maigreur parmi les guerriers robustes d'Assur (ses gras) ; et sous sa magnificence s'enflammera comme l'embrasement d'un feu (ardent).
17 And the light of Israel shall be as a fire, and the Holy One thereof as a flame: and his thorns and his briers shall be set on fire, and shall be devoured in one day.	17 La lumière d'Israël sera un (le) feu, et le Saint d'Israël une flamme, qui embrasera et dévorera ses (les) ronces et ses (les) épines (d'Assur) en un seul jour.
18 And the glory of his forest, and of his beautiful hill, shall be consumed from the soul even to the flesh, and he shall run away through fear.	18 La gloire de sa forêt et de ses champs délicieux (son Carmel) sera consumée, depuis l'âme jusqu'au corps ; et ils (Assur) seront(a) fugitif(s) de terreur.
19 And they that remain of the trees of his forest shall be so few, that they shall easily be numbered, and a child shall write them down.	19 Et le reste des arbres de sa forêt pourra être compté (aisément), tant il sera faible, et un enfant en écrira le nombre.
20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and they that shall escape of the house of Jacob, shall lean no more upon him that striketh them: but they shall lean upon the Lord the Holy One of Israel, in truth.	20 En ce jour-là le reste d'Israël, et ceux de la maison de Jacob qui auront échappé ne s'appuieront plus sur celui qui les frappait (frappe) ; mais ils s'appuieront sur le Seigneur, le saint d'Israël, avec sincérité.
21 The remnant shall be converted, the remnant, I say, of Jacob, to the mighty God.	21 Les restes reviendront ; les restes, dis-je, de Jacob reviendront au Dieu fort.
22 For if thy people, O Israel, shall be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them shall be converted, the consumption abridged shall overflow with justice.	22 Car quand (lors-même que) ton peuple, ô Israël, serait comme le sable de la mer, un reste seulement reviendra (se convertiront) ; la destruction qui est résolue fera déborder la justice (ces restes, réduits à un petit nombre, abonderont en justice).
23 For the Lord God of hosts shall make a consumption, and an abridgment in the midst of all the land.	23 Car cette destruction qui a été résolue, le Seigneur, le Dieu des armées l'accomplira au milieu de tout le pays.
24 Therefore, thus saith the Lord the God of hosts: O my people that dwellest in Sion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall strike thee with his rod, and he shall lift up his staff over thee in the way of Egypt.	24 C'est pourquoi voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le Dieu des armées : Mon peuple, qui habites dans Sion, ne crains pas Assur ; il te frappera de la verge, et il lèvera son bâton sur toi, à la manière des Egyptiens (dans la voie de l'Egypte, note).
25 For yet a little and a very little while, and my indignation shall cease, and my wrath shall be upon their wickedness.	25 Mais encore un peu, encore un moment, et je punirai leur crime dans toute l'étendue de mon indignation et de ma fureur.
26 And the Lord of hosts shall raise up a scourge against him, according to the slaughter of Madian in the rock of Oreb, and his rod over the sea, and he shall lift it up in the way of Egypt.	26 Et le Seigneur des armées agitera le fouet contre lui, comme il frappa Madian à la pierre d'Oreb, et (comme il leva) sa verge (sur la mer,) il la lèvera encore, comme en (dans la voie de l') Egypte.
27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall putrify at the presence of the oil.	27 En ce jour-là son (le) fardeau (d'Assur) sera enlevé de dessus ton épaule, et son joug de dessus ton cou, et ce joug pourrira par l'abondance (à cause, note) de l'huile.
28 He shall come into Aiath, he shall pass into Magron: at Machmas he shall lay up his carriages.	28 Il viendra à Aïath, il passera par Magron ; il laissera son bagage à Machmas.
29 They have passed in haste, Gaba is our lodging: Rama was astonished, Gabaath of Saul fled away.	29 Ils passeront (ont passé) en courant, (ils camperont) à Gaba (notre campement) ; Rama est dans l'épouvante (a été frappé de stupeur) ; Gabaath de Saül prend (a pris) la fuite.
30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim, attend, O Laisa, poor Anathoth.	30 Fais retentir ta voix, fille de Gallim ; prends garde, Laïsa ; (, et toi aussi) pauvre Anathoth ! (.)
31 Medemena is removed: ye inhabitants of Gabim, take courage.	31 Médeména a émigré : habitants de Gabim, ralliez-vous (rassurez-vous).
32 It is yet day enough, to remain in Nobe: he shall shake his hand against the mountain of the daughter of Sion, the hill of Jerusalem.	32 Encore un jour, et il sera (Il est encore jour pour s'arrêter) à Nobé ; il menacera de la main la montagne de Sion, (et) la colline de Jérusalem.
33 Behold the sovereign Lord of hosts shall break the earthen vessel with terror, and the tall of stature shall be cut down, and the lofty shall be humbled.	33 Voici que le dominateur, le Seigneur des armées va briser le vase de terre (la petite bouteille) par son bras terrible : ceux qui étaient les plus hauts seront coupés, et les grands seront humiliés.
34 And the thickets of the forest shall be cut down with iron, and Libanus with its high ones shall fall.	34 Et les taillis (parties épaisses) de la forêt seront abattus par le fer, et le Liban tombera avec ses hauts cèdres.
