Sirach 22

DOUAI-RHEIMS	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 The sluggard is pelted with a dirty stone, and all men will speak of his disgrace.	1 Ao preguiçoso é atirado esterco, só se fala dele com desprezo.
2 The sluggard is pelted with the dung of oxen: and every one that toucheth him will shake his hands.	2 O preguiçoso é apedrejado com excremento, quem o tocar sacudirá a mão.
3 A son ill taught is the confusion of the father: and a foolish daughter shall be to his loss.	3 O filho mal educado é a vergonha de seu pai, a filha semelhante não gozará de nenhuma consideração.
4 A wise daughter shall bring an inheritance to her husband: but she that confoundeth, becometh a disgrace to her father.	4 Um jovem prudente é uma herança para o marido, mas a filha desavergonhada causa mágoa ao seu pai.
5 She that is bold shameth both her father and husband, and will not be inferior to the ungodly: and shall be disgraced by them both.	5 A mulher atrevida cobre de vergonha o pai e o marido; e é igual aos celerados: ambos a desprezam.
6 A tale out of time is like music in mourning: but the stripes and instruction of wisdom are never out of time.	6 Uma palavra inoportuna é música em dia de luto; a sabedoria, porém, emprega com oportunidade o chicote e a instrução.
7 He that teacheth a fool, is like one that glueth a potsherd together.	7 Instruir um insensato é tornar a ajustar um vaso quebrado;
8 He that telleth a word to him that heareth not, is like one that waketh a man out of a deep sleep.	8 falar a quem não ouve é como despertar alguém de um sono profundo.
9 He speaketh with one that is asleep, who uttereth wisdom to a fool: and in the end of the discourse he saith: Who is this?	9 Falar da sabedoria com um insensato é conversar com alguém que está adormecendo; no fim da conversa ele dirá: Que é?
10 Weep for the dead, for his light hath failed: and weep for the fool, for his understanding faileth.	10 Chora sobre um morto, porque ele perdeu a luz; chora sobre um tolo, porque é falho de juízo.
11 Weep but a little for the dead, for he is at rest.	11 Chora menos sobre um morto, porque ele achou o repouso;
12 For the wicked life of a wicked fool is worse than death.	12 a vida criminosa do mau, porém, é pior do que a morte.
13 The mourning for the dead is seven days: but for a fool and an ungodly man all the days of their life.	13 O luto por um morto dura sete dias, mas por um insensato e um ímpio, dura toda a sua vida.
14 Talk not much with a fool, and go not with him that hath no sense.	14 Não fales muito com um estulto; não convivas com o insensato.
15 Keep thyself from him, that thou mayst not have trouble, and thou shalt not be defiled with his sin.	15 Acautela-te contra ele, para não seres incomodado; e não te mancharás com o contágio de se u pecado.
16 Turn away from him, and thou shalt find rest, and shalt not be wearied out with his folly.	16 Afasta-te dele: encontrarás repouso, e a sua loucura não te causará mágoa.
17 What is heavier than lead? and what other name hath he but fool?	17 O que há de mais pesado que o chumbo? E que outro nome dar-lhe a não ser o de insensato?
18 Sand and salt, and a mass of iron is easier to bear, than a man without sense, that is both foolish and wicked.	18 É mais fácil carregar areia, sal ou uma barra de ferro, do que suportar o imprudente, o tolo e o ímpio.
19 A frame of wood bound together in the foundation of a building, shall not be loosed: so neither shall the heart that is established by advised counsel.	19 Um encaixamento de madeira adaptado aos alicerces de um edifício não se desconjunta. Assim é o coração firmado por uma decisão bem amadurecida.
20 The thought of him that is wise at all times, shall not be depraved by fear.	20 O desígnio de um homem sensato, em qualquer tempo que seja, não será alterado pelo temor.
21 As pales set in high places, and plasterings made without cost, will not stand against the face of the wind:	21 Como a estacada posta em lugar elevado e a parede sem argamassa não podem resistir à violência do vento,
22 So also a fearful heart in the imagination of a fool shall not resist against the violence of fear.	22 assim um coração tímido, de pensamentos tolos, não pode resistir ao choque do temor.
23 As a fearful heart in the thought of a fool at all times will not fear, so neither shall he that continueth always in the commandments of God.	23 O coração medroso do insensato jamais tem temor em seus pensamentos; assim também o que não se apóia nos preceitos divinos.
24 He that pricketh the eye, bringeth out tears: and he that pricketh the heart, bringeth forth resentment.	24 Quem machuca um olho, dele faz sair lágrimas; quem magoa um coração, nele excita a sensibilidade.
25 He that flingeth a stone at birds, shall drive them away: so he that upbraideth his friend, breaketh friendship.	25 Quem lança uma pedra aos pássaros, fá-los fugir; assim, quem insulta um amigo, rompe a amizade.
26 Although thou hast drawn a sword at a friend, despair not: for there may be a returning. To a friend,	26 Ainda que tenhas arrancado a espada contra o teu amigo, não desesperes; porque o regresso é possível.
27 If thou hast opened a sad mouth, fear not, for there may be a reconciliation: except upbraiding, and reproach, and pride, and disclosing of secrets, or a treacherous wound: for in all these cases a friend will flee away.	27 Ainda que tenhas dito contra ele palavras desagradáveis, não temas, porque a reconciliação é possível, salvo se se tratar de injúrias, afrontas, insolências, revelação de um segredo ou golpes à traição; em todos esses casos fugirá de ti o teu amigo.
28 Keep fidelity with a friend in his poverty, that in his prosperity also thou mayst rejoice.	28 Permanece fiel ao teu amigo em sua pobreza, a fim de te alegrares com ele na sua prosperidade.
29 In the time of his trouble continue faithful to him, that thou mayst also be heir with him in his inheritance.	29 Permanece-lhe fiel no tempo da aflição, a fim de teres parte com ele em sua herança.
30 As the vapour of a chimney, and the smoke of the fire goeth up before the fire: so also injurious words, and reproaches, and threats, before blood.	30 O vapor e a fumaça elevam-se na fornalha antes do fogo; assim o homicídio e o derramamento de sangue são precedidos de injúrias, ultrajes e ameaças.
31 I will not be ashamed to salute a friend, neither will I hide myself from his face: and if any evil happen to me by him, I will bear it.	31 Não me envergonharei de saudar um amigo, nem me esconderei da sua presença; e se me acontecer algum mal por isso, eu o suportarei,
32 But every one that shall hear it, will beware of him.	32 mas quem o souber, dele desconfiará.
33 Who will set a guard before my mouth, and a sure seal upon my lips, that I fall not by them, and that my tongue destroy me not?	33 Quem porá uma guarda à minha boca, e um selo inviolável nos meus lábios, para que eu não caia por sua causa, e para que minha língua não me perca?
