1 Josias was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one and thirty years in Jerusalem.	1 Josias tinha oito anos, quando começou a reinar, e reinou trinta e um anos em Jerusalém.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father: he declined not, neither to the right hand, nor to the left.	2 Fez o que era recto na presença do Senhor, andou nos caminhos de David, seu pai, não declinando nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.
3 And in the eighth year of his reign, when he was yet a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David: and in the twelfth year after he began to reign, he cleansed Juda and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the idols, and the graven things.	3 Desde o oitavo ano do seu reinado, sendo ainda muito jovem, começou a buscar o Deus de David, seu pai; no duodécimo ano, depois que tinha começado a reinar, purificou Judá e Jerusalém dos lugares altos, dos ascheras e das estátuas de fundição e de escultura.
4 And they broke down before him the altars of Baalim, and demolished the idols that had been set upon them: and be cut down the groves and the graven things, and broke them in pieces: and strewed the fragments upon the graves of them that had sacrificed to them.	4 Na sua presença Foram destruídos os altares de Baal, e quebrados os ídolos que tinham sido colocados em cima, mandou cortar os ascheras, fazer em pedaços os ídolos; e ordenou que os pedaços fossem lançados sobre as sepulturas daqueles que tinham tido o costume de lhes oferecer vítimas.
5 And he burnt the bones of the priests on the altars of the idols, and he cleansed Juda and Jerusalem.	5 Além disso, queimou os ossos dos sacerdotes (dos ídolos), sobre os altares dos (mesmos) ídolos, e purificou Judá e Jerusalém.
6 And in the cities of Manasses, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Nephtali he demolished all.	6 Também nas cidades de Manassés, de Efraim, de Simeão, e mesmo de Neftali, destruiu tudo isto.
7 And when he had destroyed the altars, and the groves, and had broken the idols in pieces, and had demolished all profane temples throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.	7 Depois que destruiu os altares e os ascheras, e fez em pedaços os ídolos, e arrasou todos os templos por toda a terra de Israel, voltou para Jerusalém.
8 Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had cleansed the land, and the temple of the Lord, he sent Saphan the son of Eselias, and Maasias the governor of the city, Joha the son of Joachaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.	8 No ano décimo oitavo do seu reinado, depois de já purificada a terra e o templo do Senhor, mandou a Bafan, filho de Eselias, a Maasias, governador da cidade, a Joá, filho de Joacaz, seu cronista-mor, que reparassem a casa do Senhor seu Deus.
9 And they came to Helcias the high priest: and received of him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasses, and Ephraim, and all the remnant of Israel, and from all Juda, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	9 Foram eles ter com o sumo sacerdote Helcias, e, depois de recebido dele o dinheiro que tinha sido levado à casa do Senhor e que os Levitas e os porteiros tinham recolhido (das tribos) de Manassés, de Efraim, de todo o resto de Israel, de todo o Judá e Benjamim e dos habitantes de Jerusalém,
10 Which they delivered into the hands of them that were over the workmen in the house of the Lord, to repair the temple, and mend all that was weak.	10 entregaram-nos nas mãos dos que eram os superintendentes dos que trabalhavam na casa do Senhor, para restaurarem o templo e repararem todas as suas ruínas.
11 But they gave it to the artificers, and to the masons, to buy stones out of the quarries, and timber for the couplings of the building, and to rafter the houses, which the kings of Juda had destroyed.	11 Estes deram-no aos carpinteiros e aos canteiros, para comprarem pedras de cantaria e madeiras para o madeiramento do edifício e para o vigamento das casas, que os reis de Judá tinham destruído.
12 And they did all faithfully. Now the overseers of the workmen were Jahath and Abdias of the sons of Merari, Zacharias and Mosollam of the sons of Caath, who hastened the work: all Levites skilful to play on instruments.	12 Executaram tudo fielmente. Os superintendentes dos operários eram Jaat e Abdias, da linhagem de Merari, Zacarias e Mosolão, da linhagem de Caat; todos eles eram Levitas que sabiam tocar instrumentos.
13 But over them that carried burdens for divers uses, were scribes, and masters of the number of the Levites, and porters.	13 Estes vigiavam os transportes de materiais e dirigiam os operários, em cada especialidade. Havia ainda Levitas que eram escrivães, juízes e porteiros.
14 Now when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Helcias the priest found the book of the law of the Lord, by the hand of Moses.	14 Quando se retirava o dinheiro que tinha sido levado ao templo do Senhor, o pontífice Helcias achou um livro da lei do Senhor, dada por mão de Moisés,
15 And he said to Saphan the scribe: I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord: and he delivered it to him.	15 e disse ao secretário Safan: Encontrei o livro da lei na casa do Senhor. E entregou-lho.
16 But he carried the book to the king, and told him, saying: Lo, all that thou hast committed to thy servants, is accomplished.	16 Safan levou o livro ao rei e deu-lhe conta, dizendo: Tudo o que mandaste a teus servos, executou-se fielmente.
17 They have gathered together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord: and it is given to the overseers of the artificers, and of the workmen, for divers works.	17 Recolheram o dinheiro encontrado na casa do Senhor, e deram-no aos encarregados dos trabalhos e aos operários.
18 Moreover Helcias the priest gave me this book. And he read it before the king.	18 Além disto o pontífice Helcias entregou-me este livro. Tendo-o Safan lido diante do rei,
19 And when he had heard the words of the law, he rent his garments:	19 este, ao ouvir as palavras da lei, rasgou as suas vestes
20 And he commanded Helcias, and Ahicam the son of Saphan, and Abdon the son of Micha, and Saphan the scribe, and Asaa the king's servant, saying:	20 e ordenou a Helcias, a Aicão, filho de Safan, a Abdon, filho de Mica, ao secretário Safan e a Asaas, servo do rei, o seguinte:
21 ,21Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel, and Juda, concerning all the words of this book, which is found: for the great wrath of the Lord hath fallen upon us, because our fathers have not kept the words of the Lord, to do all things that are written in this book.	21 Ide consultar o Senhor, por mim e pelos restos de Israel e de Judá, acerca de todas as palavras deste livro que se achou, porque está prestes a cair sobre nós a grande ira do Senhor, pois nossos pais não guardaram as palavras do Senhor, cumprindo tudo o que está escrito neste livro.
22 And Helcias and they that were sent with him by the king, went to Olda the prophetess, the wife of Sellum the son of Thecuath, the son of Hasra keeper of the wardrobe: who dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second part: and they spoke to her the words above mentioned.	22 Helcias e os que tinham sido enviados juntamente pelo rei foram ter com a profetiza Olda, mulher de Selum, filho de Tecuat, filho de Hasra, guarda do vestiário, a qual habitava em Jerusalém, no segundo (bairro), e referiram-lhe as palavras que mencionámos acima.
23 And she answered them: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Tell the man that sent you to me:	23 Olda respondeu-lhes: Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Dizei ao homem que cá vos mandou:
24 Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will bring evils upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, and all the curses that are written in this book which they read before the king of Juda.	24 Isto disse o Senhor: Eu estou para fazer cair, sobre este lugar e sobre os seus habitantes, os males e todas as maldições que estão escritas neste livro, que foi lido diante do rei de Judá,
25 Because they have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, to provoke me to wrath with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath shall fall upon this place, and shall not be quenched.	25 porque eles me abandonaram e ofereceram sacrifícios aos deuses estranhos, provocando-me à ira por todas as obras das suas mãos; por isso o meu furor se espalhará sobre este lugar, e não se aplacará.
26 But as to the king of Juda that sent you to beseech the Lord, thus shall you say to him: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Because thou hast heard the words of this book,	26 Quanto ao rei de Judá, que vos enviou para implorardes a misericórdia do Senhor, assim lhe direis: Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Porque ouviste as palavras do livro,
27 And thy heart was softened. and thou hast humbled thyself in the sight of God for the things that are spoken against this place, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and reverencing my face, hast rent thy garments, and wept before me: I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.	27 porque se comoveu o teu coração e te humilhaste diante de Deus, por causa das coisas que foram ditas contra este lugar e contra os habitantes de Jerusalém, porque, temendo o meu rosto, rasgaste as tuas vestes e choraste diante de mim, eu também te ouvi, diz o Senhor.
28 For now I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be brought to thy tomb in peace: and thy eyes shall not see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and the inhabitants thereof. They therefore reported to the king all that she had said.	28 Por isso em breve te juntarei a teus pais, e serás posto em paz no teu sepulcro; os teus olhos não verão todos os males que eu estou para mandar sobre este lugar e sobre os seus moradores. Eles foram referir ao rei tudo o que a profetiza lhes tinha dito.
29 And he called together all the ancients of Juda and Jerusalem.	29 O rei, depois de convocados todos os anciãos de Judá e de Jerusalém,
30 And went up to the house of the Lord, and all the men of Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people from the least to the greatest. And the king read in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, all the words of the book.	30 subiu à casa do Senhor, com todos os homens de Judá, os cidadãos de Jerusalém, os sacerdotes, os Levitas, e todo o povo, desde o mais pequeno até o maior. Diante de todos, na casa do Senhor, o rei leu todas as palavras do livro
31 And standing up in his tribunal, he made a covenant before the Lord to walk after him, and keep his commandments, and testimonies, and justifications with all his heart, and with all his soul, and to do the things that were written in that book which he had read.	31 e, posto em pé no seu estrado, fez aliança com o Senhor, que caminharia após ele, que guardaria os seus preceitos, as suas leis, as suas cerimônias, de todo o seu coração e de toda a sua alma, que cumpriria tudo o que estava escrito naquele livro que acabava de ler.
32 And he adjured all that were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to do the same: and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of the Lord the God of their fathers.	32 Fez jurar o mesmo a todos os que se encontravam em Jerusalém e em Benjamim; os moradores de Jerusalém o cumpriram, conforme o pacto do Senhor Deus de seus pais.
33 And Josias took away all the abominations out of all the countries of the children of Israel: and made all that were left in Israel, to serve the Lord their God. As long as he lived they departed not from the Lord the God of their fathers.	33 Tirou Josias todas as abominações de todas as terras dos filhos de Israel e obrigou todos os que restavam em Israel a servir ao Senhor seu Deus. Enquanto ele viveu, não se separaram do Senhor Deus de seus pais.
