1 OR Davide disse fra sè stesso: Ecco, un giorno io perirò per le mani di Saulle; non vi è nulla di meglio per me, se non che io scampi affatto nel paese de’ Filistei; talchè Saulle, se pur continua a cercarmi per tutte le contrade d’Israele, perda ogni speranza di me; così scamperò dalla sua mano.	1 But David said to himself: "I shall perish some day at the hand of Saul. I have no choice but to escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will give up his continual search for me throughout the land of Israel, and I shall be out of his reach."
2 Davide adunque si levò, e passò, con seicent’uomini ch’egli avea seco, ad Achis, figliuolo di Maoc, re di Gat.	2 Accordingly, David departed with his six hundred men and went over to Achish, son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 E Davide dimorò con Achis in Gat, insieme con la sua gente, ciascuno con la sua famiglia. Davide vi era con le sue due mogli Ahinoam Izreelita, e Abigail, ch’era stata moglie di Nabal da Carmel.	3 David and his men lived in Gath with Achish; each one had his family, and David had his two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel.
4 Or egli fu rapportato a Saulle che Davide era fuggito in Gat; laonde egli non continuò più a cercarlo.	4 When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, he no longer searched for him.
5 E Davide disse ad Achis: Deh! se io sono in grazia tua, siami data stanza in una delle città della campagna, acciocchè io vi dimori; e perchè dimorerebbe il tuo servitore teco nella città reale?	5 David said to Achish: "If I meet with your approval, let me have a place to live in one of the country towns. Why should your servant live with you in the royal city?"
6 Ed Achis gli diede in quel dì Siclag; perciò Siclag è restata ai re di Giuda infino a questo giorno.	6 That same day Achish gave him Ziklag, which has, therefore, belonged to the kings of Judah up to the present time.
7 Or lo spazio del tempo che Davide dimorò nelle contrade de’ Filistei, fu un anno e quattro mesi	7 In all, David lived a year and four months in the country of the Philistines.
8 E Davide saliva con la sua gente, e faceva delle correrie nel paese de’ Ghesurei, e de’ Ghirzei, e degli Amalechiti; perciocchè quelle nazioni abitavano nel lor paese, da Sur fino al paese di Egitto.	8 David and his men went up and made raids on the Geshurites, Girzites, and Amalekites-peoples living in the land between Telam, on the approach to Shur, and the land of Egypt.
9 E Davide percoteva il paese, e non lasciava in vita nè uomo, nè donna; e pigliava pecore, e buoi, ed asini, e cammelli e vestimenti; poi se ne ritornava, e veniva ad Achis.	9 In attacking the land David would not leave a man or woman alive, but would carry off sheep, oxen, asses, camels, and clothes. On his return he brought these to Achish,
10 E Achis diceva: Dove siete oggi scorsi? E Davide diceva: Sopra la contrada meridionale di Giuda, sopra la contrada meridionale de’ Ierameeliti, e sopra la contrada meridionale de’ Chenei.	10 who asked, "Whom did you raid this time?" And David answered, "The Negeb of Judah," or "The Negeb of Jerahmeel," or "The Negeb of the Kenites."
11 Ma Davide non lasciava in vita nè uomo, nè donna, per menarli in Gat; perciocchè diceva: Ei si convien provvedere che non facciano alcun rapporto contro a noi, dicendo: Così ha fatto Davide. E tal fu il suo costume tutto il tempo ch’egli dimorò nelle contrade de’ Filistei.	11 But David would not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, fearing that they would betray him by saying, "This is what David did." This was his custom as long as he lived in the country of the Philistines.
12 Ed Achis credeva a Davide, e diceva: Egli si è renduto del tutto abbominevole ad Israele, suo popolo; per ciò, egli mi sarà servitore in perpetuo	12 And Achish trusted David, thinking, "He must certainly be detested by his people Israel. I shall have him as my vassal forever."
