| 1 Hermanos, en cuanto al tiempo y al momento, no es necesario que les escriba. | 1 But as to the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need to have anything written to you. |
| 2 Ustedes saben perfectamente que el Día del Señor vendrá como un ladrón en plena noche. | 2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. |
| 3 Cuando la gente afirme que hay paz y seguridad, la destrucción caerá sobre ellos repentinamente, como los dolores de parto sobre una mujer embarazada, y nadie podrá escapar. | 3 When people say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as travail comes upon a woman with child, and there will be no escape. |
| 4 Pero ustedes, hermanos, no viven en las tinieblas para que ese Día los sorprenda como un ladrón: | 4 But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to surprise you like a thief. |
| 5 todos ustedes son hijos de la luz, hijos del día. Nosotros no pertenecemos a la noche ni a las tinieblas. | 5 For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. |
| 6 No nos durmamos, entonces, como hacen los otros: permanezcamos despiertos y seamos sobrios. | 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. |
| 7 Los que duermen lo hacen de noche, y también los que se emborrachan. | 7 For those who sleep sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. |
| 8 Nosotros, por el contrario, seamos sobrios, ya que pertenecemos al día: revistámonos con la coraza de la fe y del amor, y cubrámonos con el caso de la esperanza de la salvación. | 8 But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. |
| 9 Porque Dios no nos destinó para la ira, sino para adquirir la salvación por nuestro Señor Jesucristo, | 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, |
| 10 que murió por nosotros, a fin de que, velando o durmiendo, vivamos unidos a él. | 10 who died for us so that whether we wake or sleep we might live with him. |
| 11 Anímense, entonces, y estimúlense mutuamente, como ya lo están haciendo. | 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. |
| 12 Les rogamos, hermanos, que sean considerados con los que trabajan entre ustedes, es decir, con aquellos que los presiden en nombre del Señor y los aconsejan. | 12 But we beseech you, brethren, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, |
| 13 Estímenlos profundamente, y ámenlos a causa de sus desvelos. Vivan en paz unos con otros. | 13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. |
| 14 Los exhortamos también a que reprendan a los indisciplinados, animen a los tímidos, sostengan a los débiles, y sean pacientes con todos. | 14 And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. |
| 15 Procuren que nadie devuelve mal por mal. Por el contrario, esfuércense por hacer siempre el bien entre ustedes y con todo el mundo. | 15 See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. |
| 16 Estén siempre alegres. | 16 Rejoice always, |
| 17 Oren sin cesar. | 17 pray constantly, |
| 18 Den gracias a Dios en toda ocasión: esto es lo que Dios quiere de todos ustedes, en Cristo Jesús. | 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. |
| 19 No extingan la acción del Espíritu; | 19 Do not quench the Spirit, |
| 20 no desprecien las profecías; | 20 do not despise prophesying, |
| 21 examínenlo todo y quédense con lo bueno. | 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good, |
| 22 Cuídense del mal en todas sus formas. | 22 abstain from every form of evil. |
| 23 Que el Dios de la paz los santifique plenamente, para que ustedes se conserven irreprochables en todo su ser –espíritu, alma y cuerpo– hasta la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. | 23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 24 El que los llama es fiel, y así lo hará. | 24 He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. |
| 25 Hermanos, rueguen también por nosotros. | 25 Brethren, pray for us. |
| 26 Saluden a todos los hermanos con un beso santo. | 26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss. |
| 27 Les recomiendo en nombre del Señor que hagan leer esta carta a todos los hermanos. | 27 I adjure you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brethren. |
| 28 La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo esté con ustedes. | 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |
