| 5 En efecto, los que viven según la carne desean lo que es carnal; en cambio, los que viven según el espíritu, desean lo que es espiritual. | 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. |
| 6 Ahora bien, los deseos de la carne conducen a la muerte, pero los deseos del espíritu conducen a la vida y a la paz, | 6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. |
| 7 porque los deseos de la carne se oponen a Dios, ya que no se someten a su Ley, ni pueden hacerlo. | 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; |
| 8 Por eso, los que viven de acuerdo con la carne no pueden agradar a Dios. | 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. |
| 9 Pero ustedes no están animados por la carne sino por el espíritu, dado que el Espíritu de Dios habita en ustedes. El que no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo no puede ser de Cristo. | 9 But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Any one who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. |
| 10 Pero si Cristo vive en ustedes, aunque el cuerpo esté sometido a la muerte a causa del pecado, el espíritu vive a causa de la justicia. | 10 But if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteousness. |
| 11 Y si el Espíritu de aquel que resucitó a Jesús habita en ustedes, el que resucitó a Cristo Jesús también dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales, por medio del mismo Espíritu que habita en ustedes. | 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit which dwells in you. |
| 12 Hermanos, nosotros no somos deudores de la carne, para vivir de una manera carnal. | 12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- |
| 13 Si ustedes viven según la carne, morirán. Al contrario, si hacen morir las obras de la carne por medio del Espíritu, entonces vivirán. | 13 for if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live. |
| 14 Todos los que son conducidos por el Espíritu de Dios son hijos de Dios. | 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. |

| 16 El mismo espíritu se une a nuestro espíritu para dar testimonio de que somos hijos de Dios. | 16 it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, |
| 17 Si somos hijos, también somos herederos, herederos de Dios y coherederos de Cristo, porque sufrimos con él para ser glorificados con el. | 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. |
| 18 Yo considero que los sufrimientos del tiempo presente no pueden compararse con la gloria futura que se revelará en nosotros. | 18 I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. |
| 19 En efecto, toda la creación espera ansiosamente esta revelación de los hijos de Dios. | 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God; |
| 20 Ella quedó sujeta a la vanidad, no voluntariamente, sino por causa de quien la sometió, pero conservando una esperanza. | 20 for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of him who subjected it in hope; |
| 21 Porque también la creación será liberada de la esclavitud de la corrupción para participar de la gloriosa libertad de los hijos de Dios. | 21 because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God. |
| 22 Sabemos que la creación entera, hasta el presente, gime y sufre dolores de parto. | 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning in travail together until now; |
| 23 Y no sólo ella: también nosotros, que poseemos las primicias del Espíritu, gemimos interiormente anhelando que se realice la redención de nuestro cuerpo. | 23 and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. |
| 24 Porque solamente en esperanza estamos salvados. Ahora bien, cuando se ve lo que se espera, ya no se espera más: ¿acaso se puede esperar lo que se ve? | 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? |
| 25 En cambio, si esperamos lo que no vemos, lo esperamos con constancia. | 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. |
| 26 Igualmente, el mismo Espíritu viene en ayuda de nuestra debilidad porque no sabemos orar como es debido; pero es Espíritu intercede por nosotros con gemidos inefables. | 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. |
| 27 Y el que sondea los corazones conoce el deseo del Espíritu y sabe que su intercesión en favor de los santos está de acuerdo con la voluntad divina. | 27 And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. |
| 28 Sabemos, además, que Dios dispone, todas las cosas para el bien de los que lo aman, de aquellos que él llamó según su designio. | 28 We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. |
| 29 En efecto, a los que Dios conoció de antemano, los predestinó a reproducir la imagen de su Hijo, para que él fuera el Primogénito entre muchos hermanos; | 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. |
| 30 y a los que predestinó, también los llamó; y a los que llamó, también los justificó; y a los que justificó, también los glorificó. | 30 And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified. |
| 31 ¿Qué diremos después de todo esto? Si Dios está con nosotros, ¿quién estará contra nosotros? | 31 What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us? |
| 32 El que no escatimó a su propio Hijo, sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿no nos concederá con él toda clase de favores? | 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him? |
| 33 ¿Quién podrá acusar a los elegidos de Dios? Dios es el que justifica. | 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies; |
| 34 ¿Quién se atreverá a condenarlos? ¿Será acaso Jesucristo, el que murió, más aún, el que resucitó, y está a la derecha de Dios e intercede por nosotros? | 34 who is to condemn? Is it Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us? |
| 35 ¿Quién podrá entonces separarnos del amor de Cristo? ¿Las tribulaciones, las angustias, la persecución, el hambre, la desnudez, los peligros, la espada? | 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? |
| 36 Como dice la Escritura: Por tu causa somos entregados continuamente a la muerte; se nos considera como a ovejas destinadas al matadero. | 36 As it is written, "For thy sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." |
| 37 Pero en todo esto obtenemos una amplia victoria, gracias a aquel que nos amó. | 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. |
| 38 Porque tengo la certeza de que ni la muerte ni la vida, ni los ángeles ni los principados, ni lo presente ni lo futuro, ni los poderes espirituales, | 38 For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, |
| 39 ni lo alto ni lo profundo, ni ninguna otra criatura podrá separarnos jamás del amor de Dios, manifestado en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor. | 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
