1 En el primer mes, toda la comunidad de los israelitas llegó al desierto de Sin, y el pueblo se estableció en Cades. Allí murió y fue enterrada Miriam.	1 And the people of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
2 Como la comunidad no tenía agua, se produjo un amotinamiento contra Moisés y Aarón.	2 Now there was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
3 El pueblo promovió una querella contra Moisés diciendo: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto cuando murieron nuestros hermanos delante del Señor!	3 And the people contended with Moses, and said, "Would that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
4 ¿Por qué trajeron a este desierto a la asamblea del Señor, para que muriéramos aquí, nosotros y nuestro ganado?	4 Why have you brought the assembly of the LORD into this wilderness, that we should die here, both we and our cattle?
5 ¿Por qué nos hicieron salir de Egipto, para traernos a este lugar miserable, donde no hay sembrados, ni higueras, ni viñas, ni granados, y donde ni siquiera hay agua para beber?	5 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is no place for grain, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates; and there is no water to drink."
6 Moisés y Aarón, apartándose de la asamblea, fueron a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro y cayeron con el rostro en tierra. Entonces se les apareció la gloria del Señor,	6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tent of meeting, and fell on their faces. And the glory of the LORD appeared to them,
7 y el Señor dijo a Moisés:	7 and the LORD said to Moses,
8 «Toma el bastón y convoca a la comunidad, junto con tu hermano Aarón. Después, a la vista de todos, manden a la roca que dé sus aguas. Así harás para ellos agua de la roca y darás de beber a la comunidad y a su ganado».	8 "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water; so you shall bring water out of the rock for them; so you shall give drink to the congregation and their cattle."
9 Moisés tomó el bastón que estaba delante del Señor, como él se lo había mandado.	9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
10 Luego Moisés y Aarón reunieron a la asamblea frente a la roca, y Moisés lees dijo: «¡Escuchen, rebeldes! ¿Podemos hacer que brote agua de esta roca para ustedes?».	10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?"
11 Y alzando su mano, golpeó la roca dos veces con el bastón. El agua brotó abundantemente, y bebieron la comunidad y el ganado.	11 And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their cattle.
12 Pero el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Por no haber confiado lo bastante en mí para que yo manifestara mi santidad ante los israelitas, les aseguro que no llevarán a este pueblo hasta la tierra que les he dado».	12 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."
13 Estas son las aguas de Meribá –que significa «Querella»– donde los israelitas promovieron una querella contra el Señor y con las que él manifestó contra el Señor y con las que él manifestó su santidad.	13 These are the waters of Meribah, where the people of Israel contended with the LORD, and he showed himself holy among them.
14 Moisés envió desde Cades unos mensajeros al rey de Edom, con esta propuesta: «Así habla tu hermano Israel: «Tú conoces todas las dificultades con que hemos tropezado.	14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the adversity that has befallen us:
15 Nuestros antepasados bajaron a Egipto, y allí estuvimos durante mucho tiempo. Los egipcios nos trataron duramente, a nosotros y a nuestros antepasados.	15 how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt harshly with us and our fathers;
16 Pero pedimos auxilio al Señor, y él escuchó nuestra voz y nos envió un Angel que nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cades, la población que está al borde de tu territorio.	16 and when we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel and brought us forth out of Egypt; and here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.
17 Déjanos pasar por tu país. No cruzaremos por los campos ni por los viñedos, ni beberemos agua de los pozos. Iremos solamente por el camino principal, sin desviarnos ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, hasta que hayamos atravesado tu territorio».	17 Now let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, neither will we drink water from a well; we will go along the King's Highway, we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left, until we have passed through your territory."
18 Pero Edom les respondió: «Ustedes no pasarán por aquí. Si lo hacen, saldré contra ustedes, espada en mano».	18 But Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through, lest I come out with the sword against you."
19 Los israelitas les respondieron: «Iremos por la ruta, y si nosotros o nuestro ganado llegamos a beber agua, te la pagaremos. Sólo queremos pasar a pie: es una cosa insignificante».	19 And the people of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of your water, I and my cattle, then I will pay for it; let me only pass through on foot, nothing more."
20 Pero ellos respondieron: «No pasarán». Y Edom salió a atacarlos con una tropa numerosa y bien armada.	20 But he said, "You shall not pass through." And Edom came out against them with many men, and with a strong force.
21 Y Edom impidió que los israelitas pasaran por su territorio, ellos dieron un rodeo.	21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.
22 Toda la comunidad partió de Cades y los israelitas llegaron al monte Hor.	22 And they journeyed from Kadesh, and the people of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.
23 En el monte Hor, que está en la frontera de Edom el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:	23 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom,
24 «Que Aarón vaya a reunirse con los suyos, porque él no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los israelitas, ya que ustedes se rebelaron contra mis órdenes junto a las aguas de Meribá.	24 "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the people of Israel, because you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah.
25 Toma a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar, y llévalos al monte Hor.	25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;
26 Allí despojarás a Aarón de sus vestiduras y se las pondrás a su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón se reunirá con los suyos, porque allí morirá».	26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and shall die there."
27 Moisés hizo lo que el Señor le había mandado: él, Aarón y su hijo Eleazar subieron al monte Hor a la vista de toda la comunidad.	27 Moses did as the LORD commanded; and they went up Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
28 Luego Moisés quitó las vestiduras a Aarón y se las puso a su hijo Eleazar. Aarón murió en la cima de la montaña. Cuando Moisés y Eleazar bajaron de la montaña,	28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
29 toda la comunidad supo que Aarón había muerto. Y todo Israel lloró a Aarón durante treinta días.	29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty days.
