| 1 Y Darío el medo lo sucedió en el trono a los sesenta y dos años de edad. | 1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, to be throughout the whole kingdom; |
| 2 Darío consideró oportuno poner al frente del reino a ciento veinte sátrapas, distribuidos por todo el reino, | 2 and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss. |
| 3 y establecer sobre ellos a tres ministros –entre los cuales estaba Daniel– a quienes esos sátrapas debían rendir cuenta, a fin de que no se atentara contra los intereses del rey. | 3 Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other presidents and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. |
| 4 Ahora bien, este Daniel sobresalía entre los ministros y sátrapas, porque había en él un espíritu superior, y el rey pensaba ponerlo al frente de todo el reino. | 4 Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom; but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him. |
| 5 Por eso los ministros y los sátrapas trataron de encontrar un pretexto para acusar a Daniel en lo referente a los asuntos del reino. Pero no pudieron encontrar ningún pretexto ni falta, porque él era fiel y no se le descubrió ninguna negligencia ni falta. | 5 Then these men said, "We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God." |
| 6 Esos hombres, dijeron: «No encontraremos ningún motivo de acusación contra Daniel, sino es en la Ley de su Dios». | 6 Then these presidents and satraps came by agreement to the king and said to him, "O King Darius, live for ever! |
| 7 Los ministros y los sátrapas acudieron precipitadamente al rey y hablaron así: «¡Viva eternamente el rey Darío! | 7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an interdict, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. |
| 8 Todos los ministros del reino, los prefectos y los sátrapas, los familiares y los gobernadores, se han puesto de acuerdo para que el rey promulgue un edicto y ponga en vigencia una prohibición, a saber: Todo el que dentro de los próximos treinta días dirija una plegaria a cualquier dios u hombre que no seas tú, rey, será arrojado en el foso de los leones. | 8 Now, O king, establish the interdict and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked." |
| 9 Por lo tanto, rey, promulga la prohibición y consígnala por escrito, para que no sea modificada, conforme a la ley de los medos y de los persas, que es irrevocable». | 9 Therefore King Darius signed the document and interdict. |
| 10 A causa de esto, el rey Darío puso por escrito la prohibición. | 10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem; and he got down upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously. |
| 11 Cuando Daniel supo que el documento había sido firmado, entró en su casa. Esta tenía en el piso superior unas ventanas que se abrían en dirección a Jerusalén, y tres veces por día, él se ponía de rodillas, invocando y alabando a su Dios, como lo había hecho antes. | 11 Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God. |
| 12 Aquellos hombres acudieron precipitadamente y encontraron a Daniel orando y suplicando a su Dios. | 12 Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the interdict, "O king! Did you not sign an interdict, that any man who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?" The king answered, "The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked." |
| 13 Entonces de presentaron ante el rey y, refiriéndose a la prohibición real, le dijeron: «¿Acaso no has escrito una prohibición según la cual todo el que dirija una oración dentro de los próximos treinta días, a cualquier dios u hombre que no seas tú, rey, debe ser arrojado al foso de los leones?». El rey tomó la palabra y dijo: «Así es, en efecto, según la ley de los medos y de los persas, que es irrevocable». | 13 Then they answered before the king, "That Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no heed to you, O king, or the interdict you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day." |
| 14 Entonces ellos tomaron la palabra y dijeron en presencia del rey: «Daniel, uno de los deportados de Judá, no te ha hecho caso, rey, ni a ti ni a la prohibición que tú has escrito, y tres veces al día hace su oración». | 14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed, and set his mind to deliver Daniel; and he labored till the sun went down to rescue him. |
| 15 Al oír esto, el rey se apenó profundamente y puso todo su empeño por salvar a Daniel: hasta el atardecer se esforzó por librarlo. | 15 Then these men came by agreement to the king, and said to the king, "Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no interdict or ordinance which the king establishes can be changed." |
| 16 Pero esos hombres acudieron precipitadamente al rey y le dijeron: «Tienes que saber, rey, que según la ley de los medos y de los persas, ninguna prohibición o edicto promulgado por el rey puede ser modificado». | 16 Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king said to Daniel, "May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!" |
| 17 Entonces el rey mandó traer a Daniel y arrojarlo al foso de los leones. El rey tomó la palabra y dijo a Daniel: «Tu Dios, al que sirves con tanta constancia, te salvará». | 17 And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. |
| 18 Luego trajeron una piedra y la pusieron sobre la abertura del foso; el rey la selló con su anillo y con el anillo de sus dignatarios, para que no se cambiara nada en lo concerniente a Daniel. | 18 Then the king went to his palace, and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him. |
| 19 El rey se retiró a su palacio; ayunó toda la noche, no hizo venir a sus concubinas y se le fue el sueño. | 19 Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions. |
| 20 Al amanecer, apenas despuntado el día, el rey se levantó y fue rápidamente al foso de los leones. | 20 When he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish and said to Daniel, "O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?" |
| 21 Cuando se acercó a él, llamó a Daniel con voz angustiosa. El rey tomó la palabra y dijo a Daniel: «Daniel, servir del Dios viviente, ¿ha podido tu Dios, al que sirves con tanta constancia, salvarte de los leones?». | 21 Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live for ever! |
| 22 Daniel dijo al rey: «¡Viva el rey eternamente! | 22 My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no wrong." |
| 23 Mi Dios ha enviado a su Angel y ha cerrado las fauces de los leones, y ellos no me han hecho ningún mal, porque yo he sido hallado inocente en su presencia; tampoco ante ti, rey, había cometido ningún mal». | 23 Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of hurt was found upon him, because he had trusted in his God. |
| 24 El rey sintió una gran alegría a causa de Daniel, y ordenó que lo sacaran del foso. Daniel fue sacado del foso, y no se le encontró ni un rasguño, porque había confiado en su Dios. | 24 And the king commanded, and those men who had accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions--they, their children, and their wives; and before they reached the bottom of the den the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces. |
| 25 Luego el rey mandó traer a los hombres que habían acusado a Daniel y los hizo arrojar al foso de los leones, con sus hijos y sus mujeres. Y no habían llegado aún al fondo del foso, cuando ya los leones se apoderaron de ellos y les trituraron todos los huesos. | 25 Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: "Peace be multiplied to you. |
| 26 Entonces el rey Darío escribió a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan sobre la tierra: «¡Tengan ustedes paz en abundancia! | 26 I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring for ever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. |
| 27 Yo ordeno que en todo el dominio de mi reino se tiemble y se sienta temor ante el Dios de Daniel, porque él es el Dios viviente y subsiste para siempre; su reino no será destruido y su dominio durará hasta el fin. | 27 He delivers and rescues, he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions." |
| 28 El salva y libera, realiza signos y prodigios en el cielo y sobre la tierra. El ha salvado a Daniel del poder de los leones». | 28 So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian. |
| 29 Así este Daniel estuvo en auge bajo el reinado de Darío y bajo el reinado de Ciro el persa. | |
