| 1 Al comienzo del reinado de Joaquím, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, llegó esta palabra a Jeremías, de parte del Señor : | 1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the LORD, |
| 2 Así habla el Señor: Párate en el atrio de la Casa del Señor y di a toda la gente de las ciudades de Judá que vienen a postrarse en la Casa del Señor todas las palabras que yo te mandé decirles, sin omitir ni una sola. | 2 "Thus says the LORD: Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the house of the LORD all the words that I command you to speak to them; do not hold back a word. |
| 3 Tal vez escuchen y se conviertan de su mal camino; entonces yo me arrepentiré del mal que pienso hacerles a causa de la maldad de sus acciones. | 3 It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may repent of the evil which I intend to do to them because of their evil doings. |
| 4 Tú les dirás: Así habla el Señor: Si ustedes no me escuchan ni caminan según la Ley que yo les propuse; | 4 You shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law which I have set before you, |
| 5 si no escuchan las palabras de mis servidores los profetas, que yo les envío incansablemente y a quienes ustedes no han escuchado, | 5 and to heed the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently, though you have not heeded, |
| 6 entonces yo trataré a esta Casa como traté a Silo y haré de esta ciudad una maldición para todas las naciones de la tierra. | 6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse for all the nations of the earth.'" |
| 7 Los sacerdotes, los profetas y todo el pueblo oyeron a Jeremías mientras él pronunciaba estas palabras en la Casa del Señor. | 7 The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD. |
| 8 Y apenas Jeremías terminó de decir todo lo que el Señor le había ordenado decir al pueblo, los sacerdotes y los profetas se le echaron encima, diciendo: «¡Vas a morir! | 8 And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, "You shall die! |
| 9 Porque has profetizado en nombre del Señor, diciendo: Esta Casa será como Silo, y esta ciudad será arrasada y quedará deshabitada». Entonces todo el pueblo se amontonó alrededor de Jeremías den la Casa del Señor. | 9 Why have you prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, 'This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant'?" And all the people gathered about Jeremiah in the house of the LORD. |
| 10 Al enterarse de esto, los jefes de Judá subieron de la casa del rey a la Casa del Señor, y se sentaron para el juicio a la entrada de la puerta Nueva de la Casa del Señor. | 10 When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of the LORD and took their seat in the entry of the New Gate of the house of the LORD. |
| 11 Los sacerdotes y los profetas dijeron a los jefes y a todo el pueblo: «Este hombre es reo de muerte, porque ha profetizado contra esta ciudad, como ustedes lo han escuchado con sus propios oídos». | 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the princes and to all the people, "This man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears." |
| 12 Pero Jeremías dijo a los jefes y a todo el pueblo: «El Señor es el que me envió a profetizar contra esta Casa y contra esta ciudad todas las palabras que ustedes han oído. | 12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying, "The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard. |
| 13 Y ahora, enmienden su conducta y sus acciones, y escuchen la voz del Señor, su Dios, y el Señor se arrepentirá del mal con que los ha amenazado. | 13 Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God, and the LORD will repent of the evil which he has pronounced against you. |
| 14 En cuanto a mí, hagan conmigo lo que les parezca bueno y justo. | 14 But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do with me as seems good and right to you. |
| 15 Pero sepan que si ustedes me hacen morir, arrojan sangre inocente sobre ustedes mismo, sobre esta ciudad y sobre sus habitantes. Porque verdaderamente el Señor me ha enviado a ustedes para decirles todas estas palabras». | 15 Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the LORD sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears." |
| 16 Los jefes y todo el pueblo dijeron a los sacerdotes y a los profetas: «Este hombre no es reo de muerte, porque nos ha hablado en nombre del Señor, nuestro Dios». | 16 Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, "This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God." |
| 17 Entonces se levantaron algunos hombres de entre los ancianos del país, y dijeron a toda la asamblea del pueblo: | 17 And certain of the elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembled people, saying, |
| 18 «Miqueas de Moréset profetizó en los días de Ezequías, rey de Judá, y dijo a todo el pueblo de Judá: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos: Sión será un campo arado, Jerusalén, un montón de ruinas, y la montaña del Templo, una altura boscosa. | 18 "Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and said to all the people of Judah: 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, Zion shall be plowed as a field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height.' |
| 19 ¿Acaso Ezequías, rey de Judá, y todo Judá lo hicieron morir? ¿No temió él al Señor y aplacó el rostro del Señor, de suerte que el Señor se arrepintió del mal con que los había amenazado? Nosotros, en cambio, estamos por hacernos un daño enorme a nosotros mismos». | 19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the LORD and entreat the favor of the LORD, and did not the LORD repent of the evil which he had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great evil upon ourselves." |
| 20 Hubo además otro hombre que profetizaba en nombre del Señor: Urías, hijo de Semaías, de Quiriat Iearím. El profetizó contra esta ciudad y contra este país en los mismos términos que Jeremías. | 20 There was another man who prophesied in the name of the LORD, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land in words like those of Jeremiah. |
| 21 El rey Joaquím, todos sus guardias y los jefes oyeron sus palabras, y el rey intentó darle muerte. Al enterarse, Urías sintió temor y huyó a Egipto. | 21 And when King Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. |
| 22 Pero el rey Joaquím envió a Egipto a Elnatán acompañado de algunos hombres. | 22 Then King Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, Elnathan the son of Achbor and others with him, |
| 23 Ellos sacaron a Urías de Egipto y lo llevaron ante el rey Joaquím, que lo hizo matar con la espada y arrojó su cadáver a la fosa común. | 23 and they fetched Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body into the burial place of the common people. |
| 24 Sin embargo, Ajicam, hijo de Safán, protegió a Jeremías e impidió que fuera entregado en manos del pueblo para ser ejecutado. | 24 But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death. |
