| 1 Los dos ángeles llegaron a Sodoma al atardecer,, mientras Lot estaba sentado a la puerta de la ciudad. Al verlos, se levantó para saludarlos, e inclinándose hasta el suelo, | 1 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening; and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and bowed himself with his face to the earth, |
| 2 les dijo: «Les ruego, señores, que vengan a pasar la noche en casa de este servidor. Lávense los pies, y mañana bien temprano podrán seguir viaje». «No, le respondieron ellos, pasaremos la noche en la plaza». | 2 and said, "My lords, turn aside, I pray you, to your servant's house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise up early and go on your way." They said, "No; we will spend the night in the street." |
| 3 Pero él les insistió tanto, que al fin se fueron con él y se hospedaron en su casa. Lot les preparó una comida, hizo cocinar galletas sin levadura, y ellos comieron. | 3 But he urged them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. |
| 4 Aún no se habían acostado, cuando los hombres de la ciudad, los hombres de Sodoma, se agolparon alrededor de la casa. Estaba la población en pleno, sin excepción alguna, desde el más joven hasta el más viejo. | 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house; |
| 5 Entonces llamaron a Lot y le dijeron: «¿Dónde están esos hombres que vinieron a tu casa esta noche? Tráelos afuera para que tengamos relaciones con ellos». | 5 and they called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them." |
| 6 Lot se presentó ante ellos a la entrada de la casa, y cerrando la puerta detrás de sí, | 6 Lot went out of the door to the men, shut the door after him, |
| 7 dijo: «Amigos, les suplico que no cometan esa ruindad. | 7 and said, "I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. |
| 8 Yo tengo dos hijas que todavía son vírgenes. Se las traeré, y ustedes podrán hacer con ellas lo que mejor les parezca. Pero no hagan nada a esos hombres, ya que se han hospedado bajo mi techo». | 8 Behold, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you please; only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the shelter of my roof." |
| 9 Ellos le respondieron: «Apártate de ahí». Y añadieron: «Este individuo no es más que un inmigrante, y ahora se pone a juzgar. A ti te trataremos peor que a ellos». Luego se abalanzaron violentamente contra Lot, y se acercaron para derribar la puerta. | 9 But they said, "Stand back!" And they said, "This fellow came to sojourn, and he would play the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them." Then they pressed hard against the man Lot, and drew near to break the door. |
| 10 Pero los dos hombres, sacando los brazos, llevaron a Lot adentro y cerraron la puerta. | 10 But the men put forth their hands and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. |
| 11 Y a todos los que estaban a la entrada de la casa, pequeños y grandes, los hirieron con una luz enceguecedora, de manera que no pudieron abrirse paso. | 11 And they struck with blindness the men who were at the door of the house, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves groping for the door. |
| 12 Después los hombres preguntaron a Lot: «¿Tienes aquí algún otro pariente? Saca de este lugar a tus hijos e hijas y a cualquier otro de los tuyos que esté en la ciudad. | 12 Then the men said to Lot, "Have you any one else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or any one you have in the city, bring them out of the place; |
| 13 porque estamos a punto de destruir este lugar: ha llegado hasta la presencia del Señor un clamor tan grande contra esta gente, que él nos ha enviado a destruirlo». | 13 for we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." |
| 14 Entonces Lot salió para comunicar la noticia a sus yernos, los que iban a casarse con sus hijas. «¡Pronto!, les dijo, abandonen este lugar, porque el Señor va a destruir la ciudad». Pero sus yernos pensaron que estaba bromeando. | 14 So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, "Up, get out of this place; for the LORD is about to destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting. |
| 15 Al despuntar el alba, los ángeles instaron a Lot, diciéndole: «¡Vamos! Saca a tu mujer y a tus dos hijas que están aquí, para que no seas aniquilado cuando la ciudad reciba su castigo». | 15 When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city." |
| 16 Como él no salía de su asombro, los hombres lo tomaron de la mano, lo mismo que a su esposa y a sus dos hijas, y lo sacaron de la ciudad para ponerlo fuera de peligro, porque el Señor tuvo compasión de él. | 16 But he lingered; so the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him forth and set him outside the city. |
| 17 Después que lo sacaron, uno de ellos dijo: «Huye, si quieres salvar la vida. No mires hacia atrás, ni te detengan en ningún lugar de la región baja. Escapa a las montañas, para no ser aniquilado». | 17 And when they had brought them forth, they said, "Flee for your life; do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley; flee to the hills, lest you be consumed." |
| 18 Lot respondió: «No, por favor, Señor mío. | 18 And Lot said to them, "Oh, no, my lords; |
| 19 Tú has sido bondadoso con tu servidor y me has demostrado tu gran misericordia, salvándome la vida. Pero yo no podré huir a las montañas, sin que antes caigan sobre mí la destrucción y la muerte. | 19 behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life; but I cannot flee to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me, and I die. |
| 20 Aquí cerca hay una ciudad –es una población insignificante– donde podré refugiarme. Deja que me quede en ella, ya que es tan pequeña, y así estaré a salvo». | 20 Behold, yonder city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there--is it not a little one?--and my life will be saved!" |
| 21 Entonces él le respondió: «Voy a complacerte una vez más: no destruiré la ciudad de la que hablas. | 21 He said to him, "Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. |
| 22 Pero apúrate; refúgiate en ella, porque no podré hacer nada hasta que llegues allí». Por eso la ciudad recibió el nombre de Soar, que significa «pequeño poblado». | 22 Make haste, escape there; for I can do nothing till you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. |
| 23 Cuando el sol comenzó a brillar sobre la tierra, Lot entró en Soar. | 23 The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. |
| 24 Entonces el Señor hizo llover sobre Sodoma y Gomorra azufre y fuego que descendían del cielo. | 24 Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; |
| 25 Así destruyó esas ciudades y toda la extensión de la región baja, junto con los habitantes de las ciudades y la vegetación del suelo. | 25 and he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. |
| 26 Y como la mujer de Lot miró hacia atrás, quedó convertida en una columna de sal. | 26 But Lot's wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. |
| 27 A la madrugada del día siguiente, Abraham regresó al lugar donde había estado en la presencia del Señor. | 27 And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD; |
| 28 Cuando dirigió su mirada hacia Sodoma, Gomorra y toda la extensión de la región baja, vio un humo que subía de la tierra, como el humo de un horno. | 28 and he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace. |
| 29 Así, cuando Dios destruyó las ciudades de la región baja, se acordó de Abraham, librando a Lot de la catástrofe con que arrasó las ciudades donde él había vivido. | 29 So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt. |
| 30 Lot salió de Soar y subió a la montaña, donde se radicó con sus dos hijas, porque tuvo miedo de quedarse en Soar. Allí se instaló con ellas en una caverna. | 30 Now Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar; so he dwelt in a cave with his two daughters. |
| 31 Entonces la mayor dijo a la menor: «Nuestro padre está viejo y no hay ningún hombre en el país para que se una con nosotras como lo hace todo el mundo. | 31 And the first-born said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth. |
| 32 Emborrachémoslo con vino y acostémonos con él; así, por medio de nuestro padre, tendremos una descendencia». | 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring through our father." |
| 33 Esa noche dieron de beber a su padre, y la mayor se acostó con él, sin que él se diera cuenta de lo que sucedía. | 33 So they made their father drink wine that night; and the first-born went in, and lay with her father; he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. |
| 34 A la mañana siguiente, la mayor dijo a la menor: «Anoche me acosté con mi padre, y acuéstate tú con él. Así tendremos una descendencia». | 34 And on the next day, the first-born said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring through our father." |
| 35 Esa noche volvieron a dar de beber a su padre, y la menor se acostó con él, sin que él se diera cuenta de lo que sucedía. | 35 So they made their father drink wine that night also; and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. |
| 36 Las dos hijas de Lot quedaron embarazadas de su padre: | 36 Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. |
| 37 la mayor tuvo un hijo y lo llamó Moab, que es el padre de los actuales moabitas. | 37 The first-born bore a son, and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. |
| 38 También la menor tuvo un hijo y lo llamó Ben Amí, que es el padre de los actuales amonitas. | 38 The younger also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites to this day. |
