1 Frères, il ne faut plus de favoritisme si vous avez la foi qui vient de Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur de Gloire.	1 My brothers, do not let class distinction enter into your faith in Jesus Christ, our glorified Lord.
2 Je suppose qu’un homme bien habillé entre dans votre salle et il a même une bague en or. Un pauvre entre aussi avec des habits tachés.	2 Now suppose a man comes into your synagogue, well-dressed and with a gold ring on, and at thesame time a poor man comes in, in shabby clothes,
3 Et alors tous vos regards sont pour l’homme bien habillé et vous lui dites: "Prends donc cette bonne place.” Quant au pauvre, vous lui dites: "Assieds-toi ici, au bas de l’estrade.”	3 and you take notice of the wel -dressed man, and say, 'Come this way to the best seats'; then you tellthe poor man, 'Stand over there' or 'You can sit on the floor by my foot-rest.'
4 Dites-moi: Vous faites bien une différence! Et vous jugez à partir de critères pitoyables.	4 In making this distinction among yourselves have you not used a corrupt standard?
5 Écoutez, frères bien-aimés: Dieu a choisi les pauvres de ce monde, faisant d’eux les riches de la foi et les héritiers du royaume qu’il promet à ceux qui l’aiment.	5 Listen, my dear brothers: it was those who were poor according to the world that God chose, to be richin faith and to be the heirs to the kingdom which he promised to those who love him.
6 Alors, c’est vous qui méprisez le pauvre? Pourtant ce sont les riches qui vous écrasent et qui vous traînent devant les tribunaux;	6 You, on the other hand, have dishonoured the poor. Is it not the rich who lord it over you?
7 ce sont eux qui insultent le Nom merveilleux qu’on a fait descendre sur vous.	7 Are not they the ones who drag you into court, who insult the honourable name which has beenpronounced over you?
8 Vous faites bien quand vous suivez la loi royale selon ce qui est écrit: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.	8 Well, the right thing to do is to keep the supreme Law of scripture: you will love your neighbour asyourself;
9 Mais si vous faites des différences entre les personnes, vous commettez un péché et la Loi vous dénonce comme des coupables.	9 but as soon as you make class distinctions, you are committing sin and under condemnation forbreaking the Law.
10 Si on observe toute la Loi sauf un commandement où on faute, on se verra accuser par tous les autres commandements.	10 You see, anyone who keeps the whole of the Law but trips up on a single point, is stil guilty ofbreaking it al .
11 Car celui qui a dit: Tu ne commettras pas d’adultère a dit aussi: Tu ne tueras pas. Et si tu tues mais ne commets pas l’adultère, c’est assez pour violer la Loi.	11 He who said, 'You must not commit adultery' said also, 'You must not kil .' Now if you commit murder,you need not commit adultery as wel to become a breaker of the Law.
12 Donc parlez et agissez en sachant qu’on vous jugera d’après la loi de liberté.	12 Talk and behave like people who are going to be judged by the law of freedom.
13 Le jugement sera sans pitié pour ceux qui n’ont pas fait miséricorde, alors que la miséricorde n’a rien à craindre du jugement.	13 Whoever acts without mercy wil be judged without mercy but mercy can afford to laugh at judgement.
14 Mes frères, si quelqu’un prétend avoir la foi, mais n’a pas les œuvres, qu’est-ce qu’il y gagne? Cette foi va-t-elle le sauver?	14 How does it help, my brothers, when someone who has never done a single good act claims to havefaith? Wil that faith bring salvation?
15 Si un frère ou une sœur n’ont pas de vêtement, rien à manger pour aujourd’hui,	15 If one of the brothers or one of the sisters is in need of clothes and has not enough food to live on,
16 et vous leur dites: "J’espère que tout ira bien pour toi, que tu auras chaud, que tu auras à manger”. Qu’est-ce qu’ils y gagnent tant que vous ne donnez pas à leur corps le nécessaire?	16 and one of you says to them, 'I wish you well; keep yourself warm and eat plenty,' without giving themthese bare necessities of life, then what good is that?
17 C’est pareil pour la foi. Si elle ne produit pas les œuvres, elle meurt dans son coin.	17 In the same way faith, if good deeds do not go with it, is quite dead.
18 Il sera facile de dire à quelqu’un: "Tu as la foi et moi les œuvres? Montre-moi donc cette foi sans les œuvres, et je te ferai voir ma foi à partir des œuvres.”	18 But someone may say: So you have faith and I have good deeds? Show me this faith of yours withoutdeeds, then! It is by my deeds that I will show you my faith.
19 Tu crois qu’il n’y a qu’un seul Dieu? Très bien. Mais les démons aussi croient, et ils tremblent.	19 You believe in the one God -- that is creditable enough, but even the demons have the same belief,and they tremble with fear.
20 Faut-il te démontrer, tête sans cervelle, que la foi sans les œuvres n’a aucun sens?	20 Fool! Would you not like to know that faith without deeds is useless?
21 C’est grâce à ses œuvres que notre père Abraham est devenu juste et saint quand il a offert son fils Isaac sur l’autel.	21 Was not Abraham our father justified by his deed, because he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
22 Ne vois-tu pas que la foi accompagnait ses œuvres et qu’elle est arrivée à maturité grâce aux œuvres?	22 So you can see that his faith was working together with his deeds; his faith became perfect by what hedid.
23 C’est alors que l’Écriture a pu dire: Abraham crut à Dieu et pour cela il fut fait juste et saint et il fut appelé ami de Dieu.	23 In this way the scripture was fulfil ed: Abraham put his faith in God, and this was considered asmaking him upright; and he received the name 'friend of God'.
24 Comprenez donc qu’on est fait juste à partir des œuvres et non à partir de la foi seule.	24 You see now that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified.
25 Et ce fut pareil pour Rahab, la prostituée. Elle fut admise parmi les justes à cause de ses œuvres, car elle reçut les envoyés et leur permit de retourner par un autre chemin.	25 There is another example of the same kind: Rahab the prostitute, was she not justified by her deedsbecause she welcomed the messengers and showed them a different way to leave?
26 De même qu’un corps sans esprit est mort, la foi aussi est morte s’il n’y a pas les œuvres.	26 As a body without a spirit is dead, so is faith without deeds.
