1 Jésus était reparti vers le mont des Oliviers.	1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 Dès le matin à la première heure il était de nouveau au Temple; tout le peuple venait à lui, et lui s’asseyait pour les enseigner.	2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 C’est alors que les maîtres de la Loi et les Pharisiens lui amènent une femme surprise en adultère. Ils la placent au centre,	3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 puis ils lui demandent: "Maître, cette femme est une adultère et elle a été prise sur le fait.	4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Dans la Loi, Moïse nous a ordonné de lapider les femmes qui sont dans ce cas, mais toi, qu’est-ce que tu dis?”	5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 Ils parlaient de cette façon pour le mettre à l’épreuve, car ils cherchaient un motif pour l’accuser. Mais Jésus se pencha et se mit à écrire sur le sol avec son doigt.	6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 Comme ils insistaient avec leurs questions, Jésus se redressa et leur dit: "Que celui d’entre vous qui n’a pas de péché lui jette la pierre le premier.”	7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 Et de nouveau il se pencha et se mit à écrire sur le sol.	8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 Après une telle réponse, ils commencèrent à s’en aller l’un après l’autre en commençant par les plus âgés, et Jésus se retrouva seul avec la femme au centre.	9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 Alors il se redressa et lui dit: "Femme, où sont-ils? Personne ne t’a condamnée?”	10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 Elle répondit: "Personne, vous voyez.” Et Jésus lui dit: "Moi non plus, je ne te condamne pas; va et ne pèche plus.”	11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 Jésus parla de nouveau à la foule, il leur dit: "Je suis la lumière du monde. Celui qui me suit ne marchera pas dans les ténèbres: il aura la lumière qui est vie.”	12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 Alors les Pharisiens lui dirent: "Si tu te recommandes toi-même, ta recommandation ne vaut rien.”	13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14 Jésus leur répondit: "Même si c’est moi qui me recommande, ma recommandation vaut, parce que je sais d’où je suis venu et où je vais. C’est vous qui ne savez pas d’où je viens et où je vais.	14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15 Vous jugez, et c’est la chair qui parle: moi je ne juge personne.	15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 Mais si je juge, mon jugement vaut, parce que je ne suis pas seul: il y a moi et le Père qui m’a envoyé.	16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17 Regardez votre Loi: il est écrit que le témoignage vaut s’il y a deux personnes.	17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 Je donne un témoignage sur moi-même, et le Père qui m’a envoyé me donne aussi son témoignage.”	18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 Alors ils lui dirent: "Où est ton Père?” Jésus répondit: "Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père. Si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père.”	19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20 Jésus fit cette déclaration dans la salle des offrandes, au temps où il enseignait dans le Temple; personne ne l’arrêta, car son heure n’était pas encore venue.	20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21 De nouveau Jésus leur dit: "Je m’en vais et vous me chercherez, et comme vous ne pouvez venir où je suis, vous mourrez dans votre état de péché.”	21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 Les Juifs donc se demandaient: "Il dit que nous ne pouvons pas aller là où il va: est-ce que par hasard il pense à se tuer?”	22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23 Mais Jésus leur dit: "Vous êtes d’en bas et je suis d’en haut. Vous êtes de ce monde, et moi je ne suis pas de ce monde.	23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourrez avec vos péchés: oui, si vous ne croyez pas que Je Suis, vous mourrez avec vos péchés.”	24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25 Alors ils lui demandèrent: "Mais tu es qui?” Jésus leur dit: "Exactement ce que je viens de vous dire.	25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26 J’ai beaucoup à dire et à condamner chez vous, et ce que je dis au monde, je l’ai appris auprès de celui qui m’envoie: lui est Vrai.”	26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27 Les Juifs ne comprirent pas que Jésus parlait de son Père.	27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28 Alors Jésus leur dit: "Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l’Homme, vous saurez que Je Suis mais que je ne fais rien de moi-même: je dis ce que le Père m’a fait savoir.	28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 Celui qui m’a envoyé est avec moi; il ne me laisse jamais seul car je fais toujours ce qui lui est agréable.”	29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30 Voilà ce que Jésus disait, et beaucoup eurent foi en lui.	30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Jésus disait donc aux Juifs qui croyaient en lui: "Vous serez mes vrais disciples si vous persévérez dans ma parole;	31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 alors vous connaîtrez la vérité et la vérité vous rendra libres.”	32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 Ils lui répondirent: "Nous sommes la race d’Abraham et nous n’avons jamais été esclaves de personne; pourquoi nous dis-tu: Vous serez libres?”	33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jésus leur dit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: celui qui vit dans le péché est esclave du péché.	34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 Mais l’esclave ne reste pas toujours dans la maison. Celui qui est à demeure, c’est le fils.	35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 Donc si celui qui vous libère est le Fils, votre liberté est réelle.	36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 Je sais bien que vous êtes la race d’Abraham. Cependant ma doctrine ne vous touche pas et c’est pourquoi vous voulez me tuer.	37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 Je dis ce que j’ai vu chez le Père, et vous faites ce que vous avez appris de votre père.”	38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 Les Juifs alors lui coupèrent la parole: "Notre père est Abraham!” Jésus leur dit: "Si vous étiez les enfants d’Abraham, vous agiriez comme Abraham a fait.	39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 Mais voilà quelqu’un qui vous dit la vérité, une vérité que j’ai apprise de Dieu, et vous voulez me tuer. Ce n’est pas la manière d’Abraham;	40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 vous agissez comme a fait votre père.” Alors ils lui dirent: "Nous ne sommes pas nés hors mariage, nous n’avons qu’un Père, Dieu.”	41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jésus leur dit: "Si Dieu était votre Père, vous m’aimeriez, puisque je suis sorti de Dieu pour venir ici. C’est lui qui m’a envoyé et je ne suis pas venu de moi-même.	42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Pourquoi ne comprenez-vous pas mon langage? Parce que vous ne pouvez pas recevoir mon message.	43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Vous appartenez à votre père, le diable, et vous cherchez à satisfaire les désirs de votre père. Depuis le commencement il a été homicide: c’est que la vérité n’était pas en lui et il ne s’est pas maintenu dans la vérité. Il est menteur et père du mensonge, et le mensonge lui vient tout naturellement.	44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 “Voilà bien pourquoi vous ne me croyez pas quand je vous dis la vérité.	45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Qui d’entre vous me montrera que je suis en tort? Et si je vous dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?	46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 Celui qui est de Dieu écoute les paroles de Dieu; si vous ne m’écoutez pas, c’est que vous n’êtes pas de Dieu.”	47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48 Aussitôt les Juifs lui dirent: "N’avions-nous pas raison? Tu es un Samaritain, ou tu as un démon.”	48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Jésus leur répondit: "Je n’ai pas de démon, simplement vous m’insultez parce que j’honore mon Père.	49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50 Je n’ai pas besoin de défendre mon honneur: un autre s’en charge et fera justice.	50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne connaîtra jamais la mort.”	51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52 Les Juifs lui dirent: "Maintenant nous savons que tu as un démon. Abraham est mort, et les prophètes également, et toi tu dis: Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne connaîtra jamais la mort?	52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53 Tu es donc plus grand que notre père Abraham qui est mort, tout comme les prophètes sont morts? Pour qui te prends-tu?”	53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 Jésus alors déclara: "Si je fais mon éloge, cet éloge ne vaut rien. Mais c’est mon Père qui me glorifie, celui que vous appelez: notre Dieu.	54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 Vous ne le connaissez pas, alors que moi je le connais. Et si je disais que je ne le connais pas, je serais menteur comme vous. Car moi je le connais, et je garde sa parole.	55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56 Quant à Abraham, votre père, toute sa joie était d’attendre ma venue. Il l’a vue et il s’est réjoui.”	56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 Les Juifs alors lui dirent: "Tu as vu Abraham, et cela ne fait pas cinquante ans!”	57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jésus leur répondit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: avant qu’Abraham ne soit venu, moi Je Suis.”	58 Jesus said unto them, Verily,verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Sur ce, ils cherchèrent des pierres pour les lui jeter, mais Jésus se cacha et sortit du Temple.	59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
