Seconda Epistola di Santo Paulo a Timoteo 1

1 Paulo apostolo per la volontà di Dio, secondo la promissione della vita la qual è in Iesù Cristo,	1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2 al carissimo suo figliuolo Timoteo sia grazia e misericordia e pace da Dio padre (nostro) e dal Signore Iesù Cristo.	2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 Referisco grazie al mio Dio, il quale io servo dalli miei progenitori con pura coscienza, che senza intermissione faccio ricordanza di te nelle mie orazioni, e dì e notte.	3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
4 Desidero di te vedere, perchè mi possa riempiere di allegrezza, ricordandomi delle tue lacrime,	4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5 e facendomi ricordamento della fede, la qual è in te non simulata; la qual fede abitò in prima nella tua avola Loide, e nella tua madre Eunice, e son certo che in te gli è.	5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
6 Per la qual cosa io ti conforto, che tu resusciti la grazia di Dio, la qual è in te per imposizione delle mie mani.	6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 Chè Dio non diede a noi spirito di timore, ma di virtù e di amore e di temperanza.	7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8 Adunque non ti vergognare d'annunziare il testimonio del nostro Signore (Iesù Cristo); nè me che son legato per suo amore non dimenticare; anzi lavora nella predicazione dell' evangelio, secondo la volontà di Dio,	8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9 il quale liberò noi nel suo santo chiamamento; e questo fece non per nostre opere, ma secondo il suo proponimento, e secondo la sua grazia, la qual è data a noi in Iesù Cristo dinanzi li tempi de' secoli.	9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
10 E ora è manifesta per alluminamento del Salvatore nostro Iesù Cristo, il quale per certo distrusse la morte, e alluminò la vità, facendola venire (in palese) senza corrompimento per lo evangelio.	10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
11 Nel qual evangelio io son posto predicatore e apostolo e maestro delle genti.	11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
12 Per la qual cosa io sostegno queste cose (stando in prigione in Roma), e non me ne vergogno; imperò ch' io so in cui io credo, e son certo ch' egli è potente di guardare (e d' indugiare) lo mio deposito insino a quello dì.	12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
13 Adunque abiendo forma di sana e pura dottrina, la qual udisti da me in fede e amore in Iesù Cristo,	13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
14 guarda il buono deposito (dato) per il Spirito santo il quale abita in noi.	14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
15 Chè tu sai bene questo, che tutti quelli della provincia d' Asia sono isvolti da me, de' quali è Figello ed Ermogene.	15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16 Dio dia misericordia alla magione di Onesiforo; chè spesse volte mi ha refrigerato, e non si vergognò della mia catena;	16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17 ma così presto come fu venuto a Roma, incontinente dimandò di me, e trovommi.	17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18 Iddio sì gli dia a trovare misericordia nel dì del giudizio; e quanto egli mi servie in Efeso, tu il sai meglio che non so io.	18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
