Epístola aos Efésios 3

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Por essa causa é que eu, Paulo, prisioneiro de Jesus Cristo por amor de vós, gentios... -	1 It is because of this that I, Paul, a prisoner of the Lord Jesus on behalf of you gentiles. . .
2 Vós deveis ter aprendido o modo como Deus me concedeu esta graça que me foi feita a vosso respeito.	2 You have surely heard the way in which God entrusted me with the grace he gave me for your sake;
3 Foi por revelação que me foi manifestado o mistério que acabo de esboçar.	3 he made known to me by a revelation the mystery I have just described briefly-
4 Lendo-me, podereis entender a compreensão que me foi concedida do mistério cristão,	4 a reading of it wil enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ.
5 que em outras gerações não foi manifestado aos homens da maneira como agora tem sido revelado pelo Espírito aos seus santos apóstolos e profetas.	5 This mystery, as it is now revealed in the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets, was unknown tohumanity in previous generations:
6 A saber: que os gentios são co-herdeiros conosco {que somos judeus}, são membros do mesmo corpo e participantes da promessa em Jesus Cristo pelo Evangelho.	6 that the gentiles now have the same inheritance and form the same Body and enjoy the same promisein Christ Jesus through the gospel.
7 Eu me tornei servo deste Evangelho em virtude da graça que me foi dada pela onipotente ação divina.	7 I have been made the servant of that gospel by a gift of grace from God who gave it to me by theworkings of his power.
8 A mim, o mais insignificante dentre todos os santos, coube-me a graça de anunciar entre os pagãos a inexplorável riqueza de Cristo,	8 I, who am less than the least of all God's holy people, have been entrusted with this special grace, ofproclaiming to the gentiles the unfathomable treasure of Christ
9 e a todos manifestar o desígnio salvador de Deus, mistério oculto desde a eternidade em Deus, que tudo criou.	9 and of throwing light on the inner workings of the mystery kept hidden through al the ages in God, theCreator of everything.
10 Assim, de ora em diante, as dominações e as potestades celestes podem conhecer, pela Igreja, a infinita diversidade da sabedoria divina,	10 The purpose of this was, that now, through the Church, the principalities and ruling forces should learnhow many-sided God's wisdom is,
11 de acordo com o desígnio eterno que Deus realizou em Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor.	11 according to the plan which he had formed from al eternity in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Pela fé que nele depositamos, temos plena confiança de aproximar-nos junto de Deus.	12 In him we are bold enough to approach God in complete confidence, through our faith in him;
13 Por isso vos rogo que não desfaleçais nas minhas tribulações que sofro por vós: elas são a vossa glória.	13 so, I beg you, do not let the hardships I go through on your account make you waver; they are yourglory.
14 Por esta causa dobro os joelhos em presença do Pai,	14 This, then, is what I pray, kneeling before the Father,
15 ao qual deve a sua existência toda família no céu e na terra,	15 from whom every fatherhood, in heaven or on earth, takes its name.
16 para que vos conceda, segundo seu glorioso tesouro, que sejais poderosamente robustecidos pelo seu Espírito em vista do crescimento do vosso homem interior.	16 In the abundance of his glory may he, through his Spirit, enable you to grow firm in power with regardto your inner self,
17 Que Cristo habite pela fé em vossos corações, arraigados e consolidados na caridade,	17 so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love,
18 a fim de que possais, com todos os cristãos, compreender qual seja a largura, o comprimento, a altura e a profundidade,	18 with al God's holy people you wil have the strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the heightand the depth;
19 isto é, conhecer a caridade de Cristo, que desafia todo o conhecimento, e sejais cheios de toda a plenitude de Deus.	19 so that, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond knowledge, you may be fil ed with the utterful ness of God.
20 Àquele que, pela virtude que opera em nós, pode fazer infinitamente mais do que tudo quanto pedimos ou entendemos,	20 Glory be to him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine;
21 a ele seja dada glória na Igreja, e em Cristo Jesus, por todas as gerações de eternidade. Amém.	21 glory be to him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever.Amen.
