1 Un giorno di sabato passava attraverso campi di grano e i suoi discepoli coglievano delle spighe e, dopo averle stritolate con le mani, le mangiavano.	1 Now it happened that, on the second first Sabbath, as he passed through the grain field, his disciples were separating the ears of grain and eating them, by rubbing them in their hands.
2 Alcuni farisei dissero: "Perché fate ciò che non è lecito di sabato?".	2 Then certain Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbaths?”
3 Gesù rispose: "Non avete mai letto quel che fece Davide, quando egli e i suoi compagni ebbero fame?	3 And responding to them, Jesus said: “Have you not read this, what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him?
4 Come entrò nella casa di Dio e prese i pani dell'offerta per il Signore e ne mangiò e ne diede a quelli che erano con lui, anche se era lecito ai soli sacerdoti di mangiarne?".	4 How he entered into the house of God, and took the bread of the Presence, and ate it, and gave it to those who were with him, though it is not lawful for anyone to eat it, except the priests alone?”
5 E disse loro ancora: "Il Figlio dell'uomo è padrone del sabato".	5 And he said to them, “For the Son of man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”
6 Un altro sabato Gesù entrò nella sinagoga e si mise a insegnare. E c'era là un uomo che aveva la mano destra paralizzata.	6 And it happened that, on another Sabbath, he entered into the synagogue, and he taught. And there was a man there, and his right hand was withered.
7 I dottori della legge e i farisei stavano ad osservarlo per vedere se lo guariva in giorno di sabato, allo scopo di trovare un capo d'accusa contro di lui.	7 And the scribes and Pharisees observed whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might thereby find an accusation against him.
8 Ma Gesù conosceva i loro pensieri e disse all'uomo che aveva la mano paralizzata: "A'lzati e mettiti qui in mezzo". L'uomo, alzatosi, si mise là.	8 Yet truly, he knew their thoughts, and so he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up and stand in the middle.” And rising up, he stood still.
9 Poi Gesù disse loro: "Vi domando: è permesso in giorno di sabato fare del bene o fare del male, salvare una vita o perderla?".	9 Then Jesus said to them: “I ask you if it is lawful on the Sabbaths to do good, or to do evil? To give health to a life, or to destroy it?”
10 E volgendo lo sguardo tutt'intorno, disse al paralitico: "Stendi la mano!". Egli lo fece e la mano guarì.	10 And looking around at everyone, he said to the man, “Extend your hand.” And he extended it. And his hand was restored.
11 Ma essi furono pieni di rabbia e discutevano fra loro su ciò che avrebbero potuto fare a Gesù.	11 Then they were filled with madness, and they discussed with one another, what, in particular, they might do about Jesus.
12 In quei giorni Gesù se ne andò sul monte a pregare e trascorse la notte intera pregando Dio.	12 And it happened that, in those days, he went out to a mountain to pray. And he was in the prayer of God throughout the night.
13 Fattosi giorno, chiamò a sé i suoi discepoli, ne scelse dodici e diede loro il nome di apostoli:	13 And when daylight had arrived, he called his disciples. And he chose twelve out of them (whom he also named Apostles):
14 Simone, che chiamò anche Pietro, e Andrea suo fratello, Giacomo e Giovanni, Filippo e Bartolomeo,	14 Simon, whom he surnamed Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
15 Matteo e Tommaso, Giacomo figlio di Alfeo e Simone soprannominato Zelota,	15 Matthew and Thomas, James of Alphaeus, and Simon who is called the Zealot,
16 Giuda figlio di Giacomo e Giuda Iscariota, che fu poi il traditore.	16 and Jude of James, and Judas Iscariot, who was a traitor.
17 E disceso con loro si fermò su un ripiano. C'era una grande schiera di discepoli e grande folla di gente venuta da tutta la Giudea, da Gerusalemme e dal litorale di Tiro e di Sidone;	17 And descending with them, he stood in a level place with a multitude of his disciples, and a copious multitude of people from all of Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast, and Tyre and Sidon,
18 erano venuti per ascoltarlo e per essere guariti dalle loro malattie. Anche quelli che erano tormentati da spiriti cattivi venivano guariti.	18 who had come so that they might listen to him and be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled by unclean spirits were cured.
19 Tutti cercavano di toccarlo, perché da lui usciva una potenza che guariva tutti.	19 And the entire crowd was trying to touch him, because power went out from him and healed all.
20 Gesù, alzati gli occhi verso i suoi discepoli, diceva: "Beati voi poveri, perché vostro è il regno di Dio.	20 And lifting up his eyes to his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Beati voi che adesso avete fame, perché sarete saziati. Beati voi che ora piangete, perché riderete.	21 Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who are weeping now, for you shall laugh.
22 Beati voi quando gli altri vi odieranno e vi rifiuteranno, quando vi insulteranno e disprezzeranno il vostro nome come scellerato, a causa del Figlio dell'uomo.	22 Blessed shall you be when men will have hated you, and when they will have separated you and reproached you, and thrown out your name as if evil, because of the Son of man.
23 Rallegratevi in quel giorno ed esultate, perché la vostra ricompensa è di certo grande nei cieli. Allo stesso modo, infatti, si comportavano i loro padri con i profeti.	23 Be glad in that day and exult. For behold, your reward is great in heaven. For these same things their fathers did to the prophets.
24 Ma guai a voi che siete ricchi, perché avete già la vostra consolazione.	24 Yet truly, woe to you who are wealthy, for you have your consolation.
25 Guai a voi che adesso siete sazi, perché avrete fame. Guai a voi che ora ridete, perché sarete tristi e piangerete.	25 Woe to you who are satisfied, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
26 Guai a voi, quando tutti gli uomini diranno bene di voi; allo stesso modo, infatti, facevano i loro padri con i falsi profeti.	26 Woe to you when men will have blessed you. For these same things their fathers did to the false prophets.
27 Ma a voi che mi ascoltate io dico: amate i vostri nemici, fate del bene a quelli che vi odiano.	27 But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you.
28 Benedite coloro che vi maledicono, pregate per coloro che vi fanno del male.	28 Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who slander you.
29 Se qualcuno ti percuote su una guancia, pòrgigli anche l'altra; se qualcuno ti leva il mantello, lasciagli prendere anche la tunica.	29 And to him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your coat, do not withhold even your tunic.
30 Da' a chiunque ti chiede; e se qualcuno ti ruba ciò che ti appartiene, tu non richiederlo.	30 But distribute to all who ask of you. And do not ask again of him who takes away what is yours.
31 Come volete che gli altri facciano a voi, così fate loro.	31 And exactly as you would want people to treat you, treat them also the same.
32 Se amate quelli che vi amano, che merito ne avrete? Anche i peccatori fanno lo stesso.	32 And if you love those who love you, what credit is due to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
33 Se fate del bene a coloro che vi fanno del bene, che merito ne avrete? Anche i peccatori fanno lo stesso.	33 And if you will do good to those who do good to you, what credit is due to you? Indeed, even sinners behave this way.
34 Se fate dei prestiti a coloro da cui sperate di ricevere, che merito ne avrete? Anche i peccatori concedono prestiti ai peccatori per riceverne altrettanto.	34 And if you will loan to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is due to you? For even sinners lend to sinners, in order to receive the same in return.
35 Amate invece i vostri nemici, fate del bene e prestate senza sperare alcunché e la vostra ricompensa sarà grande e sarete figli dell'Altissimo. Egli infatti è buono anche verso gl'ingrati e i cattivi.	35 So truly, love your enemies. Do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return. And then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked.
36 Siate misericordiosi come Dio, vostro Padre, è misericordioso.	36 Therefore, be merciful, just as your Father is also merciful.
37 Non giudicate e non sarete giudicati. Non condannate e non sarete condannati. Perdonate e vi sarà perdonato.	37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38 Date e vi sarà dato: ne riceverete in misura buona, pigiata, scossa e traboccante, perché con la stessa misura con cui misurate, sarà misurato anche a voi".	38 Give, and it will be given to you: a good measure, pressed down and shaken together and overflowing, they will place upon your lap. Certainly, the same measure that you use to measure out, will be used to measure back to you again.”
39 Disse loro anche questa parabola: "Può forse un cieco fare da guida a un altro cieco? Non cadrebbero tutti e due in una buca?	39 Now he told them another comparison: “How can the blind lead the blind? Would they not both fall into a pit?
40 Il discepolo non è più grande del suo maestro; tutt'al più, se si lascerà ben formare, sarà come il maestro.	40 The disciple is not above his teacher. But each one will be perfected, if he is like his teacher.
41 Perché guardi la pagliuzza che è nell'occhio di tuo fratello e non ti accorgi della trave che è nel tuo?	41 And why do you see the straw that is in your brother’s eye, while the log that is in your own eye, you do not consider?
42 Come puoi dire al tuo fratello: "Lascia che tolga la pagliuzza che è nel tuo occhio", mentre non vedi la trave che è nel tuo? Ipocrita, togli prima la trave che è nel tuo occhio e allora ci vedrai bene per togliere la pagliuzza dall'occhio del tuo fratello.	42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, allow me to remove the straw from your eye,’ while you yourself do not see the log in your own eye? Hypocrite, first remove the log from your own eye, and then will you see clearly, so that you may lead out the straw from your brother’s eye.
43 L'albero buono non produce frutti cattivi, né l'albero cattivo produce frutti buoni.	43 For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor does an evil tree produce good fruit.
44 Il pregio di un albero lo si riconosce dai suoi frutti: non si raccolgono infatti fichi dalle spine e non si vendemmia uva da un rovo.	44 For each and every tree is known by its fruit. For they do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather the grape from the bramble bush.
45 L'uomo buono trae fuori il bene dal prezioso tesoro del suo cuore; l'uomo cattivo, invece, dal suo cattivo tesoro trae fuori il male. Con la bocca infatti si esprime tutto ciò che si ha nel cuore.	45 A good man, from the good storehouse of his heart, offers what is good. And an evil man, from the evil storehouse, offers what is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
46 Perché mi chiamate: "Signore, Signore" e non fate poi quello che vi dico?	46 But why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?
47 Chiunque viene a me, ascolta le mie parole e le mette in pratica, vi mostrerò a chi assomiglia.	47 Anyone who comes to me, and listens to my words, and does them: I will reveal to you what he is like.
48 E' simile ad un uomo che si è messo a costruire una casa: ha scavato molto a fondo e ha posto le fondamenta sopra la roccia. Venuta la piena, il fiume irruppe con violenza contro quella casa, ma non riuscì a scuoterla perché era ben costruita.	48 He is like a man building a house, who has dug deep and has laid the foundation upon the rock. Then, when the floodwaters came, the river was rushing against that house, and it was not able to move it. For it was founded upon the rock.
49 Chi invece ascolta le mie parole e non le mette in pratica assomiglia ad un uomo che ha costruito una casa direttamente sulla terra, senza fondamenta. Quando il fiume la investì, essa crollò subito, e il disastro di quella casa fu grande".	49 But whoever hears and does not do: he is like a man building his house upon the soil, without a foundation. The river rushed against it, and it soon fell down, and the ruin of that house was great.”
