LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Chi mi darà nel deserto un rifugio per viandanti? Voglio abbandonare il mio popolo e andarmene da esso. Sì, tutti sono adulteri, un'assemblea di perfidi.	1 Would that I had in the desert a travelers' lodge! That I might leave my people and depart from them. They are all adulterers, a faithless band.
2 Allungano la loro lingua come il loro arco; nella menzogna e non nella fedeltà sono forti nel paese. Sì, avanzano di malvagità in malvagità e non riconoscono me. Oracolo del Signore.	2 They ready their tongues like a drawn bow; with lying, and not with truth, they hold forth in the land. They go from evil to evil, but me they know not, says the LORD.
3 Ognuno si guardi dal suo amico e non fidatevi di alcun fratello. Perché ogni fratello tende a ingannare e ogni amico sparge calunnia.	3 Be on your guard, everyone against his neighbor; put no trust in any brother. Every brother apes Jacob, the supplanter, every friend is guilty of slander.
4 Ognuno inganna il proprio amico e non dicono la verità. Ammaestrano la propria lingua a proferir menzogna; si affaticano a pervertirsi.	4 Each one deceives the other, no one speaks the truth. They have accustomed their tongues to lying, and are perverse, and cannot repent.
5 La tua abitazione è nella frode, per frode rifiutano di conoscermi. Oracolo del Signore.	5 Violence upon violence, deceit upon deceit: They refuse to recognize me, says the LORD.
6 Per questo dice il Signore degli eserciti: "Eccomi a purificarli; li passerò al crogiolo: ma come agirò verso la figlia del mio popolo?	6 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: I will smelt them and test them; how else should I deal with their wickedness?
7 Freccia mortale è la loro lingua, frode è la parola della loro bocca. Ognuno augura "Pace!" al suo prossimo e nel suo animo stabilisce il suo agguato.	7 A murderous arrow is his tongue, his mouth utters deceit; He speaks cordially with his friends, but in his heart he lays an ambush!
8 Per queste cose non dovrei visitarli, oracolo del Signore, ovvero contro una nazione siffatta non si indignerà l'anima mia?".	8 For these things, says the LORD, shall I not punish them? On a nation such as this shall I not take vengeance?
9 Per i monti io elevo pianto e lamento e per i pascoli del deserto un'elegia, poiché sono incendiati, più nessuno vi passa, né più si ode la voce del gregge: uccelli del cielo e bestiame sono fuggiti... scomparsi!	9 Over the mountains, break out in cries of lamentation, over the pasture lands, intone a dirge: They are scorched, and no man crosses them, unheard is the bleat of the flock; Birds of the air as well as beasts, all have fled, and are gone.
10 "Io renderò Gerusalemme un cumulo di rovine, una tana di sciacalli; le città di Giuda renderò una devastazione, senza abitante".	10 I will turn Jerusalem into a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; The cities of Judah I will make into a waste, where no one dwells.
11 Chi è l'uomo saggio che comprenda questo e al quale abbia parlato la bocca del Signore? Lo manifesti! "Perché è perito il paese, è stato arso come un deserto per il quale non passa nessuno?".	11 Who is so wise that he can understand this? Let him to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken make it known: Why is the land ravaged, scorched like a wasteland untraversed?
12 Disse il Signore: "Perché essi hanno abbandonato la mia legge che io posi dinanzi a loro, non hanno ascoltato la mia voce e non hanno camminato secondo la mia volontà,	12 The LORD answered: Because they have abandoned my law, which I set before them, and have not followed it or listened to my voice,
13 ma hanno seguito la caparbietà del loro cuore e i Baal che conobbero dai loro padri,	13 but followed rather the hardness of their hearts and the Baals, as their fathers had taught them;
14 per questo, così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Eccomi: io nutrirò questo popolo di assenzio e gli farò bere acque avvelenate.	14 therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: See now, I will give them wormwood to eat and poison to drink.
15 Li disperderò tra le nazioni che non hanno conosciuto, sia essi che i loro padri, e invierò dietro di loro la spada finché li avrò annientati".	15 I will scatter them among nations whom neither they nor their fathers have known; I will send the sword to pursue them until I have completely destroyed them.
16 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: "Fate attenzione! Convocate le lamentatrici: che vengano! E mandate a chiamare le più esperte: che vengano!	16 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Attention! tell the wailing women to come, summon the best of them;
17 Siano sollecite a elevare su di noi un lamento perché i nostri occhi versino lacrime e le nostre palpebre stillino acqua".	17 Let them come quickly and intone a dirge for us, That our eyes may be wet with weeping, our cheeks run with tears.
18 Sì, voce di lamento si ode in Sion: "Come siamo rovinati ci vergogniamo assai, perché dobbiamo lasciare il paese, perché siamo scacciati dalle nostre abitazioni!".	18 The dirge is heard from Zion: Ruined we are, and greatly ashamed; We must leave the land, give up our homes!
19 Ascoltate, o donne, la parola del Signore, accolga il vostro orecchio la parola della sua bocca: Insegnate alle vostre figlie un lamento e l'una all'altra insegni un'elegia!	19 Hear, you women, the word of the LORD, let your ears receive his message. Teach your daughters this dirge, and each other this lament.
20 "La morte è già salita alle nostre finestre, è entrata nei nostri palazzi, distruggendo l'infanzia sulla strada, i giovani sulle piazze.	20 Death has come up through our windows, has entered our palaces; It cuts down the children in the street, young people in the squares.
21 Parla! Tale è l'oracolo del Signore: Il cadavere dell'uomo giace come letame sulla superficie del campo e come mannelli dietro il mietitore e nessuno raccoglie!".	21 The corpses of the slain lie like dung on a field, Like sheaves behind the harvester, with no one to gather them.
22 Così dice il Signore: "Non si glori il sapiente per la sua sapienza, né si glori il forte per la sua forza, né si glori il ricco per la sua ricchezza.	22 Thus says the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor the strong man glory in his strength, nor the rich man glory in his riches;
23 Bensì in questo si glori chi vuol gloriarsi: aver senno e conoscere me, perché io sono il Signore che fa misericordia, giudizio e giustizia sulla terra. Sì, di costoro io mi compiaccio". Oracolo del Signore.	23 But rather, let him who glories, glory in this, that in his prudence he knows me, Knows that I, the LORD, bring about kindness, justice and uprightness on the earth; For with such am I pleased, says the LORD.
24 "Ecco: vengono giorni, oracolo del Signore, in cui io farò visita a tutti coloro che apparentemente sono circoncisi,	24 See, days are coming, says the LORD, when I will demand an account of all those circumcised in their flesh:
25 all'Egitto, a Giuda, a Edom, ai figli di Ammon, a Moab e a tutte le tempie rasate che abitano nel deserto, poiché tutte sono nazioni di incirconcisi e tutta la casa di Israele è incirconcisa nel cuore".	25 Egypt and Judah, Edom and the Ammonites, Moab and the desert dwellers who shave their temples. For all these nations, like the whole house of Israel, are uncircumcised in heart.
