Secondo libro dei Maccabei 2

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Nei documenti si trova che il profeta Geremia ordinò ai deportati di prendere il fuoco, come già si è detto,	1 'It is on record that the prophet Jeremiah ordered the deportees to take the fire, as we have described,
2 e che il profeta raccomandò ai deportati, consegnando loro la legge, di non dimenticarsi dei comandamenti del Signore e di non lasciarsi sviare nei pensieri, venerando le statue d'oro e d'argento e l'ornamento posto intorno ad esse.	2 and how, having given them the Law, the prophet warned the deportees never to forget the Lord'sprecepts, nor to let their thoughts be tempted by the sight of gold and silver statues or the finery adorning them.
3 Dicendo altre cose simili, li esortava a non allontanare la legge dal loro cuore.	3 Among other similar admonitions, he urged them not to let the Law depart from their hearts.
4 In quello scritto vi era pure che il profeta, avvertito da un oracolo, ordinò che la tenda e l'arca lo seguissero, mentre egli si recava al monte sul quale Mosè era salito per contemplare l'eredità di Dio.	4 'The same document also describes how the prophet, warned by an oracle, gave orders for the tentand the ark to go with him, when he set out for the mountain which Moses had climbed to survey God's heritage.
5 Giunto là, Geremia trovò un abitacolo a forma di antro; v'introdusse la tenda, l'arca e l'altare dei profumi e ne ostruì la porta.	5 On his arrival, Jeremiah found a cave-dwel ing, into which he put the tent, the ark and the altar ofincense, afterwards blocking up the entrance.
6 Alcuni di quelli che l'avevano seguìto, si avvicinarono per segnare la via; ma non riuscirono a trovarla.	6 Some of his companions went back later to mark out the path but were unable to find it.
7 Quando Geremia lo seppe, rimproverandoli disse loro: "Il luogo resterà ignoto sino a quando Dio avrà radunato la comunità e gli userà misericordia.	7 When Jeremiah learned this, he reproached them, "The place is to remain unknown", he said, "untilGod gathers his people together again and shows them his mercy.
8 Allora il Signore mostrerà di nuovo queste cose e apparirà la gloria del Signore e la nube, come si mostrava al tempo di Mosè e quando Salomone pregò affinché il tempio fosse consacrato con magnificenza".	8 Then the Lord wil bring these things once more to light, and the glory of the Lord will be seen, and sowil the cloud, as it was revealed in the time of Moses and when Solomon prayed that the holy place might begloriously hal owed."
9 Vi si narrava pure come costui, da saggio qual era, offrì sacrifici per la dedicazione e il compimento del tempio.	9 'It was also recorded how Solomon in his wisdom offered the sacrifice of the dedication and completionof the sanctuary.
10 Allo stesso modo che Mosè aveva pregato il Signore e dal cielo era disceso il fuoco che aveva consumato le vittime, così anche Salomone pregò e il fuoco disceso dall'alto consumò gli olocausti.	10 As Moses had prayed to the Lord and fire had come down from heaven and burned up the sacrifice,so Solomon also prayed, and the fire from above consumed the burnt offerings.
11 Mosè aveva detto: "Poiché non è stato mangiato, il sacrificio per il peccato è stato distrutto".	11 Moses had said, "Because the sacrifice for sin had not been eaten, it was burnt instead."
12 Allo stesso modo anche Salomone celebrò gli otto giorni di festa.	12 Solomon similarly observed the eight-day festival.

20 come pure le guerre contro Antioco Epifane e suo figlio Eupatore;	20 together with the wars against Antiochus Epiphanes and his son Eupator,
21 le apparizioni avvenute dal cielo a favore di quelli che generosamente hanno lottato per il giudaismo fino a saccheggiare, loro che erano pochi, l'intera regione e a inseguire le orde barbare,	21 and the celestial manifestations that came to hearten the brave champions of Judaism, so that, fewthough they were, they pil aged the whole country, routed the barbarian hordes,
