LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Intanto un giorno dietro l'altro Tobi faceva il conto dei giorni necessari a Tobia per l'andata e il ritorno. Quando i giorni furono al termine e il figlio non era ancora ritornato,	1 Every day, meanwhile, Tobit kept reckoning the days required for the journey there and the journeyback. 5 "Ahimè, figlio, ti ho lasciato partire, tu che sei la luce dei miei occhi".	5 'Alas! I should never have let you leave me, my child, you, the light of my eyes.'
6 Tobi le rispondeva: "Taci, non stare in pensiero, sorella, egli sta bene. Certamente li trattiene là un contrattempo, perché colui che lo accompagna è un uomo fidato e uno dei nostri fratelli. Non affliggerti per lui, sorella; tra poco sarà qui".	6 And Tobit would reply, 'Hush, my sister! Do not worry. Al is wel with him. Something has happenedthere to delay them. His companion is someone we can trust, one of our kinsmen at that. Do not lose heart, mysister.
7 Ma essa replicava: "Lasciami stare e non ingannarmi! Mio figlio è perito". Dopo il tramonto del sole, essa rientrava a piangere e lamentarsi per tutta la notte senza poter dormire.	7 He will soon be here.' But al she would say was, 'Leave me alone; do not try to deceive me. Once the sun had set she would come home again, only to weep and moan al night, unableto sleep. So Ibeg you, father, to let me return to my father's house; I have told you the plight he was in when I left him.'

I shal send messengers to your father Tobit togive him news of you.'
9 Rispose Raguel a Tobia: "Resta con me, figlio, resta con me. Invierò dei messaggeri a tuo padre Tobi, perché lo informino sul tuo conto". Ma Tobia rispose: "No, no, ti prego, lasciami andare da mio padre".	9 But Tobias pressed him, 'No, I beg you to let me go back to my father's house.'
10 Allora Raguel, alzatosi, consegnò a Tobia la moglie e la metà di tutti i suoi beni: servi e serve, buoi e pecore, asini e cammelli, vesti, denaro e masserizie,	10 Without more ado, Raguel committed Sarah his bride into his keeping. He gave Tobias half hiswealth, slaves, men and women, oxen and sheep, donkeys and camels, clothes and money and householdthings.
11 li lasciò partire sani e salvi e fece questo saluto a Tobia: "Sta' bene, o figlio, e fa' buon viaggio. Che il Signore del cielo vi guidi, te e tua moglie Sara e che io possa vedere i vostri figli prima di morire".	11 And so he let them leave happily. To Tobias he said these parting words, 'Good health, my son, anda happy journey! May the Lord of heaven be gracious to you and to your wife Sarah! I hope to see your childrenbefore I die.'
12 Poi disse alla figlia Sara: "Va' nella casa di tuo suocero, poiché da questo momento essi sono i tuoi genitori, come coloro che ti hanno dato la vita. Va' in pace, o figlia, e possa sentire buone notizie a tuo riguardo, finché sarò in vita". Poi li abbracciò e li lasciò partire.	12 To his daughter Sarah he said, 'Go now to your father-in-law's house, since henceforward they areas much your parents as those who gave you life. Go in peace, my daughter, I hope to hear nothing but good ofyou, as long as I live.' He said goodbye to them and let them go. Edna in her turn said to Tobias, 'Dear son andbrother, may it please the Lord to bring you back again! I hope to live long enough to see the children of you andmy daughter Sarah before I die. In the sight of the Lord I give my daughter into your keeping. Never make herunhappy as long as you live. Go in peace, my son. Henceforward I am your mother and Sarah is your sister.May we al live happily for the rest of our lives!' And she kissed them both and saw them set out happily.
13 A sua volta Edna disse a Tobia: "Figlio e parente carissimo, che il Signore ti riconduca a casa e possa io, finché vivo, vedere i tuoi figli e quelli di mia figlia Sara prima di morire! Davanti al Signore ti affido mia figlia in custodia. Non contristarla in nessun giorno della sua vita. Figlio, va' in pace. D'ora innanzi io sono tua madre e Sara è tua sorella. Possiamo tutti insieme avere buona fortuna tutto il tempo della nostra vita!". Dopo averli baciati tutti e due, li lasciò partire sani e salvi.	13 Tobias left Raguel's house with his mind at ease. In his gladness he blessed the Lord of heaven andearth, the King of al that is, for the happy issue of his travels. He gave this blessing to Raguel and his wife Edna,'May it be my happiness to honour you for the rest of my life!'
14 Così Tobia partì da Raguel, sano, salvo e gioioso, benedicendo il Signore del cielo e della terra, il Re dell'universo, perché aveva dato buon esito al viaggio. Raguel gli disse: "Possa tu avere la fortuna di onorare i tuoi genitori tutti i giorni della tua vita".
