LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Or tutta la terra era di un labbro solo e di uguali parole.	1 And the earth was of one tongue, and of the same speech.
2 E avvenne, nel loro vagare dalla parte di oriente, che gli uomini trovarono una pianura nel paese di Sennaar, vi si stabilirono	2 And when they removed from the east, they found a plain in the land of Sennaar, and dwelt in it.
3 e si dissero l'un l'altro: "Orsù, facciamoci dei mattoni, e cuociamoli al fuoco". Il mattone servì loro invece della pietra e il bitume invece della malta.	3 And each one said to his neighbour: Come, let us make brick, and bake them of stones, and slime instead of mortar.
4 Poi essi dissero: "Orsù, costruiamoci una città con una torre, la cui cima sia nei cieli, e facciamoci un nome, per non esser dispersi sulla superficie di tutta la terra".	4 And they said: Come, let us make a city and a tower, the top whereof may reach to heaven: and let us make our name famous before we be scattered abroad into all lands.
5 Ma il Signore discese per vedere la città con la torre che stavano costruendo i figli dell'uomo.	5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of Adam were building.
6 E il Signore disse: "Ecco ch'essi sono un sol popolo e un labbro solo è per tutti loro; questo è il loro inizio nelle imprese; ormai tutto ciò che hanno meditato di fare non sarà loro impossibile.	6 And he said: Behold, it is one people, and all have one tongue: and they have begun to do this, neither will they leave off from their designs, till they accomplish them in deed.
7 Orsù, discendiamo e confondiamo laggiù la loro lingua, cosicché essi non comprendano più la lingua l'uno dell'altro".	7 Come ye, therefore, let us go down, and there may not understand one another's speech.
8 Il Signore li disperse di là sulla superficie di tutta la terra ed essi cessarono di costruire la città.	8 And so the Lord scattered them from that place into all lands, and they ceased to build the city.
9 Per questo il suo nome fu detto Babele, perché colà il Signore mescolò il labbro di tutta la terra e di là il Signore li disperse sulla superficie di tutta la terra.	9 And therefore the name thereof was called Babel, because there the language of the whole earth was confounded: and from thence the Lord scattered them abroad upon the face of all countries.
10 Questa è la discendenza di Sem: Sem aveva l'età di cent'anni quando generò Arpacsàd, due anni dopo il diluvio;	10 These are the generations of Sem: Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years after the flood.
11 Sem, dopo aver generato Arpacsàd, visse cinquecento anni e generò figli e figlie.	11 And Sem lived after he begot Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
12 Arpacsàd visse trentacinque anni e generò Selach;	12 And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Sale.
13 Arpacsàd, dopo aver generato Selach, visse quattrocentotré anni e generò figli e figlie.	13 And Arphaxad lived after he begot Sale, three hundred and three years; and begot sons and daughters.
14 Selach visse trent'anni e generò Eber;	14 Sale also lived thirty years, and begot Heber.
15 Selach, dopo aver generato Eber, visse quattrocentotré anni e generò figli e figlie.	15 And Sale lived after he begot Heber, four hundred and three years; and begot sons and daughters.
16 Eber visse trentaquattro anni e generò Peleg;	16 And Heber lived thirty-four years, and begot Phaleg.
17 Eber, dopo aver generato Peleg, visse quattrocentotrent'anni e generò figli e figlie.	17 And Heber lived after he begot Phaleg, four hundred and thirty years: and begot sons and daughters.
18 Peleg visse trent'anni e generò Reu;	18 Phaleg also lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19 Peleg, dopo aver generato Reu, visse duecentonove anni e generò figli e figlie.	19 And Phaleg lived after he begot Reu, two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
20 Reu visse trentadue anni e generò Serug;	20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Sarug.
21 Reu, dopo aver generato Serug, visse duecentosette anni e generò figli e figlie.	21 And Reu lived after he begot Sarug, two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
22 Serug visse trent'anni e generò Nacor;	22 And Sarug lived thirty years, and begot Nachor.
23 Serug, dopo aver generato Nacor, visse duecento anni e generò figli e figlie.	23 And Sarug lived after he begot Nachor, two hundred years: and begot sons and daughters.
24 Nacor visse ventinove anni e generò Terach;	24 And Nachor lived nine and twenty years, and begot Thare.
25 Nacor, dopo aver generato Terach, visse centodiciannove anni e generò figli e figlie.	25 And Nachor lived after he begot Thare, a hundred and nineteen years: and begot sons and daughters.
26 Terach visse settanta anni e generò Abram, Nacor e Aran.	26 And Thare lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Aran.
27 Questa è la genealogia di Terach: Terach generò Abram, Nacor e Aran. Aran generò Lot.	27 And these are the generations of Thare: Thare begot Abram, Nachor, and Aran. And Aran begot Lot.
28 Aran poi morì, durante la vita di suo padre Terach, nella sua terra nativa, in Ur dei Caldei.	28 And Aran died before Thare his father, in the land of his nativity in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 Abram e Nacor si presero delle mogli; il nome della moglie di Abram era Sarai e il nome della moglie di Nacor era Milca, figlia di Aran, padre di Milca e di Isca.	29 And Abram and Nachor married wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai: and the name of Nachor's wife, Melcha, the daughter of Aran, father of Melcha, and father of Jescha.
30 Sarai era sterile, non aveva figlioli.	30 And Sarai was barren, and had no children.
31 Poi Terach prese Abram, suo figlio, e Lot figlio di Aran, suo nipote, e Sarai sua nuora, moglie di suo figlio Abram, e li fece uscire da Ur dei Caldei, per andare nella terra di Canaan. Ma arrivati a Carran vi si stabilirono.	31 And Thare took Abram, his son, and Lot the son of Aran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, the wife of Abram his son, and brought them out of Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan: and they came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.
32 Il tempo che Terach visse fu di duecentocinque anni, poi morì in Carran.	32 And the days of Thare were tow hundred and five years, and he died in Haran.
